The Star Trek Online Thread

Because I know I'm not the only one here that plays, and after four years of playing the game, I only discovered yesterday that, to my surprise and utter excitement, THERE IS A SHUTTLE RACE TRACK in the game! You don't know this, but for me, I have two great passions in Star Trek Online: Ground Combat and shuttles! But the latter comes with a terrible price. You see, shuttles have been abandoned in Star Trek Online for around a decade (long before I started playing.) Most players don't seem to know you can put just about any ship equipment on a shuttle. Most people think you're stuck with the standard issue equipment that comes with it when you first get it. Personally, I take pride in building shuttles that can take down full-on dreadnought-class ships. There are very few missions and Task Fleet Operations that require the use of a shuttle, and people rarely try the shuttle TFO's.

So now that I know there's a race track in the game exclusively for shuttles, I am giddy with excitement. The course record, canonically set by Tom Paris (from Star Trek Voyager) is 131. You might be asking "131 what? Seconds?" Probably but also I have no idea. What I do know is that I have been spending more time in the Delta Quadrant, at the Yontasa Sector, in the Hodos System, so I can try to beat that course record! Not just beat the record. I want to obliterate it. So I'll start this thread off with my shuttle racing obsession, but any Star Trek Online stuff is welcome here. Don't expect me to get into the maths involved in determining the best way to max your DPS. Your spreadsheet will come across as Egyptian hieroglyphics to me. You can post it here, but I still won't be able to understand it. So expect me to just say something along the lines of "Ooh, shiny!"

My first try at the shuttle race track resulted in a time of 163. It was TERRIBLE. My second try resulted in a time of 139. It's not bad, but Tom Paris' course record still stands...TAUNTING ME. I don't have a screenshot of them either. My third completion of the race (I ended up flying too far of course at some of the sharp turns, and started over) resulted in a time of 128.

Did I break Tom Paris' record? Yes. Was it good enough to settle on? NOT EVEN CLOSE. I had to try again. I had to try harder. I had to fly faster, take more risks, hope I don't blow it in the process.

As I frantically sped through the course, much to my surprise, my new time...

That's right, I finally managed a time I can settle on for now. A respectable 116. Oh yeah, a full 15 seconds ahead of Tom Paris' record! All while still having the means to utterly destroy the ship trying to steal my shuttle because it qualifies for the Trans-galactic race.
