The palace had been prepared for days now, with its many rooms awaiting the arrival of visitors from across Eras. Carolus stood patiently outside with rest of his hand picked men patrolling the courtyard. It had been no easy task convincing the soon to be Tzarina that the level of security present was necessary, but she eventually relented. He had spent a considerable amount of time going over and over the guest list, trying memorize the names and faces so he wouldn't make a fool of himself upon introduction. He could see the gates swing open and a small convoy of vehicles approaching. Five white luxury sedans, all flying tiny Rafhazi flags on either side of the hood.

Carolus adopted a gentle smile as the motorcade pulled around the fountain, and up to the front of the palace. The first man to emerge wore the simple black dress uniform of the Rafhazi Armed Forces. His mop of curly black hair peeking out from under his white cap. He saluted, then opened the rear door of the vehicle to let the Caliph step out. Caliph Sayed Abdi Al-Nasir looked to be a gentle, genial man as he helped his wife from the vehicle until she could steady herself with her cane. Several others began to emerge from the other vehicles, who Carolus recognized as six of the Caliph's eight children and their spouses and children.

Sayed and Suhaira slowly and steadily climbed the stairs, under the watchful eyes of the Lord Protector.

"Your excellecies, As-Salamu Alaykum. I hope your travels were not too terrible." Carolus greeted them, bowing ever so slightly.

Sayed smiled before he spoke. "Wa-Alaikum-Salaam, most gracious Lord Ironhorse. Our travels were peaceful. Your country is quite beautiful." he replied, returning the slight bow. The rest of the Caliphs entourage muttered and chattered amongst themselves as they eyed the Ephyran, many of them believing him to be a djinn. Omar stepped forward from behind Carolus and beckoned the group inside.

"Omar will show you to your rooms, I sincerely hope they are adequate to your needs. There will be a dinner served tonight, and we invite you to join. We have already taken the liberties of making sure that halal options are provided." Carolus continued.

Sayed smiled and nodded, before leading his people inside. The inside of the palace had been decorated with the finest silken banners of gold and red, the red marble floors polished to a mirror shine, and only the finest of Yamanta paintings hung upon the walls; many on loan from the Museum of Yamanta Art in Novisibraskaya.

Sayed looked up as he walked, catching a brief glimpse of the future Tzarina chatting with the Khanum of Ephyra on one of the staircases. He enjoyed the old palace, it was a nice change from the gold and green of his own.

Outside, Carolus awaited the next arrival.

Tagtaryeva, Yamantau

Privet i dobro pozhalovat*, Your Excellencies. Her Majesty the Tzarina and her retinue await eagerly to meet you both at the palace.”

Sidorov liked visiting Yamantau. He could keep to his native language with little issue. Sweet and simple. He wouldn’t need to worry about his Arcanstotskan accent bleeding into his Mercanti. He’d gotten far better at it over the years since coming into politics, but it was still noticeable with some words and phrases.

The Yamanta man opened the back passenger door of a white sedan and Sidorov and Ayla climbed inside. The vehicle had a comfortable, luxurious interior. Fine leather seats. Ayla had forced her husband to leave any cigarettes or tobacco products back in Siloyev, much to Sidorov’s disappointment though he hid that too.

The drive from the airport to the palace was swift. A route had been cleared and prepared for foreign dignitaries to make the drive without getting bogged down in traffic. The limo pulled up to the palace entrance decked out with pomp and circumstance that only a coronation could provide. An aide rushed over to open the door for the Arcanstotskan president and first lady. The pair climbed out, Ayla first followed by her husband. The imposing figure of an Ephyran met with them, wearing a warm, welcoming smile.

“Your Excellency,” Lord Ironhorse gave a slight bow to Sidorov and shook his hand before turning to Ayla to offer the same hospitality. “Madam First Lady. Welcome to Yamantau. Her Majesty the Tzarina is eager to meet you both. I hope the flight from Siloyev was not too hateful.”

Sidorov and Ayla returned the bow. “It’s always a pleasure to be in Tagtaryeva, Lord Ironhorse. The flight was without issue.”

“Very good,” Carolus nodded. “I’m pleased to hear that, Your Excellency. Her Majesty’s aides will show you both to your room. There will be dinner served tonight and we’d love for you both to join us.”

“We would be happy to,” Sidorov nodded again before he and Ayla followed an aide into the palace. Going up the steps the two Arcanstotskans exchanged brief words with the new Tzarina, the Khanum of Ephyra, and the Caliph of Rafhazan.

The interior of the palace was just as beautiful as the exterior. Gold and crimson silks adorned the walls and floors. The marble floors shined to the point that they sparkled in the chandeliers’ glow of candles, much like the crystalline decorations themselves.

On a Thursday
Tagtaryeva, Yamantau

"And here it is!" Tobias said as he pulled one hand away from the other with his thumb tucked behind some fingers, making it look like he'd separate his thumb from his hand.

Alycia chuckled and rolled her eyes but Hael and Baldr both laughed happily at the sight.

"How pabbi?" Baldr asked as Hael looked on curiously.

"Magic! That's how!" Tobias laughed softly as he ruffled the hair of both his sons. It was a trick he remembered his own father doing, and he knew damn well he'd do it too if he ever had kids. God had blessed him with three.

"They'll be old enough soon that it won't impress them," Alycia teased but Tobias just chuckled.

"Then I need to make the most of the time I have. And by the time they're too old for it Hanna will be old enough to find it impressive!"

"What mamma?" Hael asked his mother as Aly held Hanna in her arms.

"Pabbi's magic trick," she said with a grin.

Tobias, content with impressing two two year olds, leaned back in his chair as the limousine made its way to the palace.
He adjusted the collar on his uniform. These things were always so tight, so formal.

It was, however, something he'd grown accustomed to. Especially after he'd spent the last year all over the world commemorating people who had served with distinction during the Civil War.

That was in and of itself relevant. He had met the previous leader of Yamantau, Volodymyr Svrtan. At his and Alycia's wedding actually. Tobias had known who he was. He didn't like him, reminding him of the Syndicalists who had nearly destroyed his own country. But he smiled and tried to be polite with the man, and not cause an incident at his own wedding.

Svrtan, however, spent the whole time looking scared of his own shadow and like he was a moment away from pissing himself. It wasn't until later that Tobias found out Svrtan was scared of him.

Now he was here for the coronation of Sophija Anastasija Szubrov as Tzarina. Was that a sign that Yamantau, like Prydania, had put its troubles behind it? Maybe.
Some people said that his own coronation was a symbolic rebirth for Prydania. Others had disparaged the notion. He'd done all he could to make that idea a reality. And for that reason, he was excited to trust that Sophija could be what Yamantau needed.

Tobias glanced up at Stig, sitting at the far end of the limo and pulled Baldr over, bending over to whisper.
"Go say 'hi' to Uncle Stig, ok?"

The excitable two year old ran towards Stig hugging his leg as the Field Marshal shot him a look that was somewhere between "annoyed" and "a smile."
"Do you know know your pabbi's only doing this as payback because I made him cry putting him through his paces?" Stig asked with a chuckle.

"When?" Baldr asked looking back at his father confused, causing Alycia to laugh.

"A while ago," Tobias replied.

"Oh I'm sure you won't cry when it's time for your national service," Stig added, turning his attention back to Baldr.

"The Army can have him in sixteen years," Tobias said, before glancing out the window at the Yamantau countryside.

"I might have to keep on until then. Just for the pleasure of seeing it myself," Stig mused before ruffling Baldr's hair.
"Go on. Back to Pabbi. We're almost there."

Stig straightened out his own Royal Prydanian Army uniform as Baldr returned to his father, mother, brother, and sister.

"What is a cor...corn..." Hael began to ask before Alycia finished it for him."

"Coronation, sweetie. It's when someone is made King or Queen."

"Like you?" Hael asked his mother.

"Like me and Pabbi that's right."

"Did you have a corn...cornin..."

"We both did," Tobias answered.
"Before you were born."

"And now, you'll see Tzarina Sophija's!" Alycia said to her sons.
"Best behaviour, you two understand."

Baldr and Hael both nodded, knowing full well their mamma wasn't to be trifled with.

The limousine slowed down, and the sites of the palace in Tagtaryeva came into view. It was a routine everyone knew... a security-friendly procession.

"Interesting people, at these things," Alycia mused.

"There's always interesting people," Tobias replied.
"I'm mostly interested in the good people. My aunt Mélisende's going to be here."

Queen Mélisende of Saintonge wasn't relayed to Tobias by blood, but she was married to King Thibault II of Saintonge, Tobias' distant uncle.
And she was someone who, just a few years earlier, had given him some very helpful advice.

"And an Ephyran..." Alycia added. Tobias looked up. The Ephyrans were sending a delegation of course. But that wasn't who Alycia was referring to. She was referring to Carolus Ironhorse, Sophija's Lord Protector.
Ephyran were a common sight in Prydania's Austurland, where Tobias grew up. And they weren't unusual in eastern Norsia either, down the Auburn coast. Yamantau, however, was a different story.
"How much do you know about him?" Tobias asked.

"I know enough that he's not someone to mess with."

"And that means something coming from you," Tobias said to his wife, smiling as she chuckled softly. Soon though, the car came to a stop.

"Alright," Stig said, just before the door opened.
"This will be the only time I get to tell you this for this trip," he added looking at Tobias.
"Stay sharp, and proper."

Tobias laughed and nodded, saluting his uncle.
"Of course sir."

Stig sighed, but opted to let the misuse of the salute go. Knights of the Storm left the car ahead of them and came up to open their limousine. Stig left first, straightening his uniform out some before helping Baldr and Hael out, and corralling them off to the side.

Tobias emerged next, and reached in to help Alycia out as she held Hanna. Tobias gave his daughter a gentle pat on the cheek before he turned to face Lord Protector Ironhorse.

"Greetings," Tobias called out in Prydanian. He knew it was a language Ephyrans would be familiar with.
"Greetings Lord Protector, from the northern Crownlands."

He usually wasn't so boastful with his greetings, but this was an occasion that called for it.

"I'm honoured to be here, and hopefully share in the Tzarina's coronation. And a new beginning for Yamantau!"

I'm happy to know Yamanta will have a new leader. Although there is no guarantee of what will come, I have great confidence in the new Tzarina and the Lord Protector. Let us give them a chance and welcome them back in the international community.

After a civil war or a bloodthirsty dictator in Yamanta, Tardine, Prydania, Norsia, I'm surprised they keep choosing monarchy. Some of these countries, by the way, suffered the way they did because they had tyrant monarchs. Not all of them was because of the socialist boogeyman. I'm a proud Syndicalist! I'm not ashamed of it. And no country, neither a nuclear power nor a rural backwater, can ever change that.

We are working on a new multilateral relationship that actually works. Nothing like any of those organizations that allow members to opt out of anything they agreed to. That's why we call them "agreements." A word the member states of these organizations clearly don't understand. Soon, we will move on from our current commitments.
