Welcome to The North Pacific Standard's first election coverage. Despite being late to this election we will do our best to cover the latter half of the election. The current election is for the position of speaker, voting opened on 13th September 2021 at 19:45:00 and voting will close on 18th September 2021 at 19:45:00. Voting can take place on both the thread or through sending a private ballot to the Voting Booth.

As can be seen by the current polling Oracle is currently the favourite candidate in the first preference with Skaraborg currently in second place. With only two days to go until the end of this election it seems that Oracle is on track to win the first preference but he still doesn't have the necessary majority to win the election, if he does not get these votes soon the election could roll into an elimination stage. If it does we currently expect Nubt II to be the candidate eliminated if this is the case then this is how the votes will be changed.

The votes barely change if Nubt II is eliminated with both Oracle and Skaraborg only securing an extra vote. Due to this it appears that the election at the time of writing will go into a second elimination round and at the time of writing Fregerson will be eliminated. This should largely change the make up of the vote due to the amount of votes Fregerson has themselves. So if they are eliminated here is what the vote will look like.

Despite the number of votes Fregerson had their supporters were mostly even split over the other candidates giving none of the other candidates an advantage. Oracle gains two, Bobberino gains three and Skaraborg gains three. Because of this the election, once again at the time of writing, is set to enter a third elimination round with Bobberino being the candidate to be eliminated. If they are eliminated the vote will become a sprint race between Skaraborg and Oracle. Here is how the vote will look.

As seen if Bobberino is eliminated Skaraborg is set to make a significant gain of six votes compared to Oracle's three. However this boost in votes is not enough to get Skaraborg past Oracle. So as of the time of writing The North Pacific Standard can say:

Today, 17th September, is the penultimate day of this election tomorrow the next speaker of the North Pacific will be decided. Since our last coverage little has changed in the election with only one new vote cast. So lets look at how that will change the first preference vote.

As can be seen from these new figures we can see that the new vote cast is to Skaraborg. Since this new voter has only listed a first preference then the elimination rounds have not changed. Because of this the current final predictions, at the time of writing, are still the same and TNPS still predicts that Oracle will win this election. This is a much shorter article for today but when not much happens this is all that can be said. Because here at The North Pacific Standard we deliver just the facts and if the facts are short then so are our articles.

Welcome to the final day of the September 2021 Election, today the new speaker of the North Pacific will be chosen. For two days The North Pacific Standard has covered the election and so far candidate Oracle has been leading in the election with them being predicted to win for the days that we have covered. However today there was an influx in first preference votes for Skaraborg, was this influx in votes able to change the direction of the election? Stay tuned to find out. Due to the importance of this day we will be splitting our coverage into multiple posts to allow greater diversity in content and real time reaction to events. In this first post we will look at the number of First Preference Votes when the polls closed.

As we can see from this graph Oracle is the candidate with the most first preference votes but they still have not achieved a majority so the election will go into an elimination phase where the lowest candidates are eliminated and their next preferred candidate is awarded a vote. Skaraborg came close in second with twenty-four votes whilst Bobberino and Fregerson came joint third with eleven votes each, Nubt II came last with three votes whilst six people chose to abstain. We will be looking at the next phases of the election later on but now we will see how many votes each candidate had on each day of the election.

This graph shows us that over the election Oracle had a constant lead over the other candidates with Skaraborg in second place with the closest separation between them being only two votes. Elsewhere candidates Fregerson and Bobberino managed to tie for third after Fregerson gained an additional vote on the final day. Nubt II stayed on three votes for the majority of the election. Abstention also stayed the same for the majority of the election with the most people choosing that option on the second day of voting and only one on the final day.

The votes have been counted and the Election Commission has declared a winner. This election was an extremely close one with the two candidates in Round 4 of the counting having only a four votes separation. And in Round 3 both candidates had the same amount of votes. So without further ado The North Pacific Standard can declare that the winner of the September 2021 Speaker Election is Oracle. We received a short statement from them earlier today.

Oracle -
"I would like to thank all of the citizens that have casted their ballot for me in this close race. Each vote matters and the preferences also play an important role in the election. This is by far one of the closest races that I have seen in the North Pacific."
