Greater Siezon Union
The uprising had been crushed before it could even begin. Yet another success.
Jace Kyrell wore a smirk on his face as he moved down the hallway, flanked on either side by Union soldiers. He was due to interrogate one of the arrested xeno rebels in twenty minutes, but he’d be at the cell in less than five. He always preferred arriving at least two minutes early. It gave him the kind of reputation he’d like to keep - the kind of reputation that got you on the good side of your superiors.
The bust went flawlessly. Over a dozen Zorran - the ringleaders of the attempted revolution - were arrested. Dozens of Zorran revolutionaries were killed, but that was just less scum to put up with, as far as Jace was concerned. Union Military Intelligence had managed to crack the location where the Zorrans were gathering, but they had yet to identify their suppliers.
That’s where Jace came in. It was his job to crack the case on who’s been giving supplies to the aliens. The order came from the top, straight from Chairman Dolan himself.
These xeno uprisings were becoming more and more frequent all across the Union’s outer territories. Xenos taking up arms against the government, only to be put down by the might of the Union’s military. It was worrying, to say the very least.
Personally, Jace suspected the Yviiri were behind it all. They were the Union’s senior rivals and had a vested interest in the Union’s demise. Jace didn’t think the Kalorians were the type to be so… subtle, and he had much the same views in regards to the Grohl. Those damn dinosaurs would have just outright invaded and the Grohl seemed to just love their hit-and-run tactics. The Sekari were another possible culprit, but they’ve been in a twenty-year-long period of isolation ever since Vissarion III became Emperor.
Jace and his guards stepped into the elevator at the end of the corridor. He pushed one of the buttons for the lower floors and the elevator began its descent. Upon its arrival at its destination, the doors opened vertically and Jace stepped out before he walked over to his interrogation room. Two more Union soldiers stood guard to the left and right of the blast door. Jace walked over and showed one of the soldiers his holo-ID. The soldier then stepped aside and opened the door for Jace to walk in.
Jace stepped inside the interrogation room. The chamber was a dull metallic gray illuminated by a single overhead light. In the center of the room was a table and two seats on opposite long sides. On the far side of the room sat a Zorran male about Jace’s height, though Jace was somewhat skinnier. The alien’s blue eyes looked up to meet Jace’s, though his head remained pointed down towards the table in some admittance of shame. The two Union soldiers who had been his escorts moved to stand guard on both flanks of the blast door.
“Hello,” Jace greeted the alien as he stood before it. “Thank you for waiting so patiently. We can get started now.”
Jace took his seat across from the alien. Its very presence offended him. He was incapable of viewing it as an equal being. Even if he could do it, why would he? It’d bring nothing but shame to himself and his family. It’d destroy his career that he had been working so hard to build for over twenty years. There was nothing but trouble with this thing.
But his job - and the Union - demanded that he interact with the creature, and for the sake of the Union, he would get it done.
Jace leaned back in his seat. He wanted to savor the look of shame and defeat on the alien’s face. Its humiliation in its failure. He couldn’t help but smile.
“Now, I’m going to ask you a very simple question,” Jace explained, “and you’re going to give me a very simple answer.”
He leaned in, far enough to the point he couldn’t help but pick up the alien’s stench. “Who supplied your uprising?”
The Zorran’s bright blue eyes looked up to meet Jace’s. “I shall say nothing, human,” the alien growled in response. There was still that spirit of defiance, despite the uprising’s failure. Deep down inside it annoyed Jace.
He raised his right hand and snapped his fingers. At that, one of the Union soldiers stormed forward and drove the butt of his weapon into the Zorran’s face. The Zorran didn’t shriek out in pain as Jace had hoped he would. Instead, the alien looked Jace in the eye and spat its blue blood straight into his face. At that, Jace sprung into a furious rage. He lept up from his seat and at the alien, taking him down to the ground. He wrapped his hands around the alien’s throat and began to press down onto its windpipe.
He was touching an alien. How disgraceful.
“Tell me who supplied your rebellion or I’ll crush your cursed neck, alien!” Jace screamed. The Union soldiers just stood by and watched.
Then the Zorran just barely managed to spit out two words.
“Sekari… Empire…”
Jace pulled himself away and tried to catch his breath. He was somewhat calmer now and climbed to his feet before composing himself.
“Thank you. As a reward for giving me what I want, your death will be swift and painless.”
The Zorran just gasped for air and rolled onto its stomach. Jace nodded to the Union soldier beside him and turned to leave the room. He pulled out a communicator and dialed up the Chairman. As he left the room and the door shut, there was only the sound of a shot.
“Chairman Dolan. I’ve cracked the alien. I'll debrief you in person when I return to Siezon Prime.”
