History
The education system of Prydania has remained remarkably stable despite the events that have rocked the country since the mid nineteen eighties.
The present-day education system has its roots in the reforms of Prime Minister Kristvin Austdal in the years following the death of the pro-fascist King Rikard VI. Rikard's liberal-minded son, King Robert VII, was eager to support reforms to the country following the Fascist War's conclusion.
Austdal's government had a number of tasks to accomplish regarding education reform. The first was to standardize the country's education system. Education had, up to that point, been developing at an uneven pace. Schooling in the urban areas were modernizing while some rural schools were, according to Austdal's Minister of Education Heiðmar Fagerland, "operating at a nineteenth century level." Standards had to be agreed to, and applied universally to bring schooling up to even levels across the country.
The second task would be what those schools taught. The pro-fascist and hyper nationalist curriculum of the Social Commonwealth regime was replaced by a liberal-minded and modern curriculum based on the curriculum used in places like Goyanes, Valland, Saintonge, and Callise.
The third task was funding it all. This was, in actuality, the easiest part. Austdal's government made a commitment to investing in education, an investment that helped give rise to Prydania's post-Fascist War boom.
The standardized system was hijacked by both the second Social Commonwealth dictatorship of 1984-2002 and the Syndicalist dictatorship of 2002-2017, but neither made any significant adjustments to grade scales or overall organizational structure. Both regimes were content merely to steer the curriculum.
As such the system and structure was retained when revamps to the education system were first overseen by the government of Prime Minister Magnus Brandt in 2018. Curriculum would be reworked entirely to remove Syndicalist influences as well as reflect modern academic standards the world over, but the structure of the education system would remain in place.
An addition was made though, in the realm of adult education. The Civil War had resulted in many young adults and adolescents being pulled into the fighting. As a result the end of the War saw many adults and adolescents with incomplete educations. The Brandt government- taking inspiration from the Austdal government over sixty years previously- made use of their own investments and foreign aid to pay for programs to allow these individuals a means to continue their educations. It was investment in education that served Prydania well in the 1950s, and so it would again.
