A Step Into The Future - Korovan Election Results

KOROVKA, Korova - After being fast tracked, the sudden election cycle triggered three months ago has finally come to a close. It marks the first national election in the nation in almost two decades, having been prevented by both coup and anarchy, and a return to democracy. But alongside this, in a surprise turn, the Tiran has announced abdication and a national shift to a republic that has shocked the citizenry.

Why was the election fast tracked?
When Korova first reestablished itself in the face of past struggles, there was a boundless sense of hope filling the government but, at the same time, a sense of modesty to keep in the face of that. This is why the interim dictatorship under Tiran Arthur was designated three years. Three years to rebuild, three years to redevelop, three years to redraft, unimpeded by bureaucracy and other potential interference.

However, the nation could never expect the success of Yellowtail, nor the zealous willingness of the international community to come together to rebuild Korova, and their neighbour Pridansk. While Sentozh and Zem Bledno had always been involved in our recovery, they came to the forefront of support. Zem Bledno threw itself forward to take care of the nation's security in a time when we were vulnerable to imperialism, and filled with internal dangers of factionalism. Sentozh on the other hand came to nurture us like a loving mother, from caring for our ill to reclaiming and protecting the lost history and treasures of our culture. But this wasn’t the limit of what others gave to us, Ob'yednana Federatsiya came forth to feed us and to take in Koroviyane when the state’s future existence was uncertain. Goyastrana supported the rebuilding of the nation's rail, going so far as to restore the Northern Channel Tunnel and reunite connections with Pridansk. Malenansk almost immediately went straight into building schools and educating the Koroviyane youth.

It’s for this that three months ago, at the tail end of the last year, the Tiran halved the length of their leadership and triggered the first national election cycle of Korova’s new age. Everything had gone ahead of schedule.

While the cycle itself was sudden, many of Korova’s current parties had been formed months in advance knowing elections were incoming eventually and ready to participate. The United Koroviy Front and the Communist Civic Union are among some of the oldest, growing out of Palace cliques, while the ACPG was born out of guaranteed Ad’ Cane reparations.

What was the result of the election?
The United Koroviy Front won 68 of the 150 available seats, while the Communist Civic Union found itself to be the second largest party at 26 seats. This leaves the UKF with 7 too few seats to hold a certain majority but there are negotiations with CCU to form a coalition which many believe will form, owing to their similar goals for Korova’s future. After the UKF and CCU comes the Koroviy Traditionalists at 17 seats, the Liberal Democrats at 14, Greens at 10, ACPG at 7, Koroviy Independence at 5, and 2 independent seats.

The UKF is a party described by many as the embodiment of the former-Tiran Arthur Tatarov’s views and vision, which can only be further attested by its candidate being one of their closest aides - Idowu Oke. Ms. Oke will be the first person of Nazkiy, or Koro-Nazzeriy, descent to hold the position in the nation’s history in a historic move marking the end to Nazkiy oppression within Korova.
During the 19 & 20th centuries, both major Yeizhka - Koro-Yuzhniy - and Nazkiy immigration took place as the nation pushed to take in and adopt many of the world’s immigrant populations for the narratives of Puchokizm [Korovan Fascism]. While the Yeizhka population subsided parts of their culture and identity for the Puchokiy nationalism, the Nazkiy population was less willing to do so and as such faced discrimination under the Zhurov royalist regime. By the time the Syndicalist coup occurred this was systematic and actively destructive towards Nazkiy.

Ultimately, last night’s election stands to permanently cement the far-socialist governing of Arthur’s interim leadership.

Why did the Tiran abdicate, and what does a Republic mean for the future?
In a public address outside the Palace in Korovka, they announced the end to Korova’s monarchy as “an act of severing ties with total rule that had gripped the nation for the past century in the forms of Syndicalism and Puchokizm” while establishing an elected Head-of-State position. This marks a distinct shift from the promises of constitutional monarchy made in the past year-and-a-half, rendering Korova as a full-fledged Republic much like its neighbouring states of Akanstatskaya and Zem Bledno.

When later asked what would become of himself and the Palace in Korovka, Arthur noted that their near future would involve them sitting as an Advisor to the Veduministr for the next two years - or half of their term. They also expressed their intention to attend the Saito University of the Arts as a student once their political career ends, wanting to experience life in his father’s homeland. When it came to the palace, they expressed desires for it to be converted into primarily a museum with certain wings of the “colossal” complex separated into public buildings such as government offices, or a hospital.

Ultimately, a republic is a dramatic semantic shift for Korova and a major step away from the influences that brought it down in the first place. However, when theorising as to how different a Republic of Korova would be from a Tyranny of Korova one has to remember that Arthur Tatarov would still be the one influencing the boundaries of a constitutional monarchy in Korova. Arthur, being an individual who always yearned for a Koroviy people who were able to self-determinate, would likely have rendered any future monarchs nearly powerless. Knowing this, a Republic is likely not that far from a Constitutional Monarchy in a post-Arthur Korova in practice but the future is an unknown fruit.

And its people will never quite know what it will hold, but they can always have hope it’ll be filled with good fortune.
