Prime Minister's Log
August 9th, 2016

(Not Publicly Released)
(Claidie's Ascension)

This will be my final entry as Prime Minister of The Principality of Sil Dorsett.

Last night, Prince Stéphane was found dead in his exercise room. The coroner believes cardiac arrest to be the most likely cause of death, but until an autopsy is performed, we won't know for sure. The palace staff has been hard at work locating the missing Lady Claidie; she hasn't been responding to our calls to her cell phone. It is likely she is aware of her father's demise since word has been all over the media. We can only hope her absence is short; Stéphane's living will did not reflect their estranged relationship and see her removed from the line of succession, and therefore she is now the princess.

As per our laws and traditions, the demise of a monarch also brings an end to the Prime Minister's services. In a month's time or so, there will be an election to choose a new Prime Minister, and I am barred from standing. With as young as the now-Princess Claidie is, it is my hope that the electorate will choose a more seasoned politician to be a pillar for her to stand on. However, I can only hope for that. The reality is that it is likely for someone much younger to get the princess's backing during the campaign season, which will probably mean that the Solidarity party will take the seat. I only hope that whoever runs and is elected has stellar service history to inspire the people with and, if someone from Foundations keeps the seat, the relative youthfulness to keep up with the young royal.

To whoever does come after me, though, you have one hell of a challenge ahead of you: an inexperienced monarch that may not even want the job if her disappearance is any indication and nobility that may not warm up to her. You'll be lucky if you can get anything meaningful done. But, if you do, you might just go down in the books as one of the greats. Good luck.

(Madeline's Election)

I've finished up settling into my new office. It's much larger and more elaborate than the doored-off cubicles that MPs get here. After all, they're supposed to be doing the majority of their work in the chamber. It's not like they need much office space anyways. I say that jokingly, of course. I doubt an MP could handle being in a typical desk worker's cubicle. Although, I often wonder how much space I really need myself. It's often said around the office building that the Prime Minister has about as much power as the Mayor of Landereau, effectively none at all. With as much power as the monarchy has to govern, the Prime Minister's role is effectively advisory.

I don't even get to appoint my own ministers. That's up to Her Highness, and she's appointed the following, leaving in place most of the ministers from her father's reign: Minister of Marius Chaucer at Foreign Affairs, Samuel Palmer at Defense, Tristan Piaget for the Justice ministry, Oliver Dubois for Environmental and Energy affairs, Christophe Thibodeaux for Commerce, Catherine Brosseau at the Education department she better actually give a damn about the quality of my children's schooling and Sariah Mesny at Health and Human Services

It was a little awkward to tell my own husband that he wouldn't be reappointed, especially since he never really had a fair shot at proving he was a good pick in the last administration. He only served a year, and I thought his work was excellent for the time that he had. Obviously, though, I don't want to start my term off with charges of nepotism, so I asked Claidie not to reappoint Will. She agreed, although I think she was a bit reluctant, and she did give me the right to throw out the new minister if I felt it wasn't working out. I think she really wants Will around. Hopefully, he at least picks up a deputy minister spot, but I'm not going to pressure Marius for that.

My goal in the early goings is going to be to encourage more mainstream tourism, beyond that of the casinos of Norvalle, and provide resources for companies to hire for those positions. I'd like for us to be known for our parks and rivers as much as our yachts and cars. We'll see how the first few weeks go with the new team and see if we can get some major legislation passed and up to Her Highness's desk. I hope she has an interest in things beyond that which tailor to the rich, and if her already noticeably fussy attitude to the nobility is any indication, I think we'll be in good shape.

("Silien Short Stories - Direct Report")

Marius Chaucer has been dismissed from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after a story on Lodestar News broke out about him making unwanted sexual advances to a tourist. It's difficult to believe that not even a month into the life of my administration it's already been rocked by allegations of misconduct. I will most assuredly be facing quite a grilling in Parliament from both the lawmakers and the nobility, calling into question my fitness to lead. Considering how I missed other allegations Mister Chaucer is facing, this may be difficult to defend against. I don't quite understand how this is my doing, though, since it was Her Highness that reappointed him in the first place.

Worse yet, in a way, Princess Claidie has tightened her grip over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by demanding that my husband return to the ministry as its head, making it impossible for me to administer it without allegations of nepotism, again, even despite Her Highness making the appointment. Having my husband around the administration is quite a boon, but having an entire ministry taken away cancels that. Claidie doesn't seem to have the confidence that I'll find someone qualified and ethical to fill the position. I will have to find some way to restore that confidence.

("The December August Ball")

Princess Claidie and I are making preparations to attend a state event abroad in Iteria, and I'm finding her to be overly cautious and anxious. She's made so many demands related to maintaining an inconspicuous image and a low profile. I nearly had to grab her by the back of the neck (figuratively) to get her to go. She seems to think that engaging in diplomacy is my job, and while it is part of my responsibilities as well, she needs to understand that it's her responsibility as well. I, again, had to remind her about the difference between a Head of State and a Head of Government, the latter of which I am and the former of which she is. The responsibilities she thinks are hers, micromanaging the government in particular, aren't, though I suppose that's to be expected when the monarch has the final say on everything.

Regardless, I'm hoping this event will be a good way for her to understand the role she has to play in the world stage. She could use a lesson or two, or ten.

("The Crown Conflict")

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notified Her Highness and myself of an incident abroad in Cerdagne. The Cogorian embassy there was taken by a rebel group that appears to be lead by a claimant to the old Cogorian throne, before the socialist revolution there. The Isletville region also suffered attacks that the Cogorians are claiming are simply terrorist attacks. Statements from other nations have been coming in, either staying along ideological lines or condemning and blaming both the rebels and the government.

My husband was working with Claidie on developing our own response, and I was told that the response would be short and pacifist in nature, applying no blame and only recognizing the loss of life in the attacks. Will was a bit disappointed that a call towards a peaceful resolution was stripped out of the response, but apparently even saying that is considered taking sides, something Claidie doesn't want us to do. I don't understand her drive towards perpetual and such total pacifism to the point that we can't say anything that might offend. There are times where we should make a stand, and I believe this is one of them.

("Socialist Observations")

I am lucky to still have my job.

Samuel Palmer is the latest victim of this fragmented style of governing, having activated our military reserves in response to a less than favorable reply to my attempt at diplomacy. The move only further agitated our opposition. To try to relieve some of this tension, we invited Mr. Alekzander Zarnesti to visit us, and what an interesting event that was. Claidie seemed to care more about showing off her credentials than representing the nation; a bourgeoise trying to show the proletariat how she was sticking it to the bourgeoise. On top of that, anything I said was met with an imperialist spin that only further angered Zarnesti. It was a shit show that exposed one of my weaknesses, and Will ended up saving it in the end. I'm the one going to sleep on the couch tonight.

On the bright side, though, Claidie seems interested in letting me handle more of the personnel decisions. Perhaps this could lead to greater oversight and centralized leadership over the ministries. Suddenly, a position I believed to be advisory is now actually on its way to being an effective position.

("Dorsettian-Scallendovian Military Installations Treaty")

The nation of Scallendovia has decided to lay in bed with the Mintorians, who decided to declare war on both sides of the Cogorian civil unrest and made their intention to subjugate them known. The Scallendovians didn't have much of a reason other than conquest, and perhaps they thought it would be fun. While ordinarily we wouldn't care that much, despite the antics of our northwestern neighbor, we had already agreed in good faith to entertain the possibility of allowing the establishment of an overseas base for the Scallendovians, for our protection and for their own outreach efforts.

Those efforts are dead. Instead of discussing a treaty, Miss Allen turned the meeting on its head to wave the Phoenix Union charter infront of Blunt and Abel's faces to drive home the point that they had screwed the pooch. Malorie and Will gave them an ultimatum to come to peace terms with the Cogorians and stop the nonsense or the treaty would be scrapped and their Phoenix Union membership be threatened. They chose the latter, and they were tossed out of our offices and the Phoenix Union itself.

Good riddance.

I will not stand with foreign governments that seek to enforce their own brand of law and order through invasion and violence. I condemn what they've already done and what they've threatened to do in the future. I am not interested in entertaining the thoughts and words of Mintorian or Scallendovian leaders any longer. I only hope Princess Claidie agrees.

Grégory Cormier and Benjamin Dale from the Chamber of Law have been thrown out following an incident involving a private citizen who decided to flirt with a certain high-ranking government official who probably shouldn't have been at a bar to begin with. This kind of behavior from Princess Claidie, putting on disguises to go out in public and mingle, is just incredibly reckless. I do not understand why she does it.

Perhaps Baron Levasseur's attempt to impose and enforce tradition upon Miss Dorsett ticked her off and that's why she did it. I really do wish the nobility and her could come together to just set forth a solid protocol to use from now on, but given Miss Dorsett's lack of respect for them, I doubt she'll be allocating any time out of her schedule to work with them.

("Annual Beltane Celebration in Kalti")

Princess Claidie had an accident at the Westton Motorsport Complex and spent a few hours at the infield medical center. I told her months ago that her pro-am motorsport days should be over with her now having responsibilities as a Head of State, but she doesn't seem to want to listen. She still treats racing as a hobby - (an expensive hobby) - and that she feels she can govern effectively and still have her fun. I'm not disputing that, but going out on track in an open wheel single-seater too dangerous for a government official, especially the one at the top. Perhaps this, combined with the fact that she's due in Merilia for the Beltane celebration tomorrow, will serve as a wake-up call.

While I certainly do not condone her behavior, in a way, I'm starting to understand her behavior. She had her life interrupted by her father's untimely passing, and I think she still yearns for that life of freedom and deciding what her own responsibilities are. She knows she can have that life back, but, she's going to have to get over this feud with her sister first and just let her win. Does she want her freedom, or does she want the power to steer the monarchy in a progressive manner? That's what she needs to decide.

Conflicts like the civil war in Prydania make me question the approach of perpetual pacifism and neutrality. Humanitarian aid never hurts, but it doesn't leave me with the warm fuzzy feelings as much as standing up to injustice and taking action against it. The release of product from the Princess's Storehouse is one thing, but using military force to save a people sends a clear message what side of history you want your nation to be on. I wish we had done more. Even authorizing a token force of volunteers would have been something. This is twice now where we could have made a stand and failed. Historians will debate this far into the future, but for now, the debate will be about how we can correct our failings and support the Prydanian people as they step into a new era of freedom. The war is over. The syndicalists are defeated, and Tobias Loðbrók will be their King.

I look forward to eventually meeting the new Prydanian head of state once the dust settles a little bit.

I didn't need Deputy Minister Carpentier's somber report to know of the events in Iraelia at the Yavneh Roya celebration, or what was supposed to be a celebration. I remain speechless over how Prime Minister Feldshuh passed away so suddenly. My heart goes out to the Iraelian people, who have lost a great leader. And, my heart also goes out to Feldshuh's family and friends, who lost a most beloved soul.

Mr. Carpentier is recommending assigning Ms. Adeline Wood as Ambassador to Iraelia, replacing the retiring Roch Chausson. I think Will should give her a few days to think about it. After what happened yesterday, I wouldn't be surprised if she declined. Personally, I'd rather her not be constantly reminded of such a traumatic event.

Claidie appears to have finally thrown perpetual pacifism out the window, finally. She rejected Matthias VIII's of Mintoria's invitation to his coronation in a scathing letter that brought up the events of the Cogorian civil unrest of this year and barred all of our government officials from going as well. Right over the border, none of us can go.

She must really dislike Matthias, and I can't say I blame her. She's even gone as far as to nickname him [REDACTED - 5.5.27.3 diplomatic interest] in private conversation. I didn't know she knew a little Cojedean. I can't say that this is going to improve our relationship with our neighbor at all, but as much as she doesn't seem to be interested in reconciliation, right now, neither am I. She seems to be getting frustrated in trying to play the pacifist peacemaker, and any traditionalist is going to see her behavior as the will of the Silien people. I'm not in position to do anything about it, and, even if I were, I wouldn't.

With my help and that of her sister, Princess Claidie has completed a comprehensive overhaul of our entire government structure and issued the decree to implement it yesterday. The plan balances our tradition of a monarchy that is active in the day-to-day activities of our government and increased democratization and the voice of the people being heard louder.

Now, my job means something, more than just being a commoner advisor to the princely family or a pretty face to put on display at conferences. Now, I'm in the thick of it, and I can drive policy and really work for making the principality a wonderful place to work, play, and most importantly of all, thrive.

My job is no longer long-lasting, though. Before, I basically served at Claidie's leisure. She could have dismissed me at any time, or if her reign came to an end, I would have been out like my predecessor. Instead, now I will face routine re-elections, the first of which will come in January 2023. There's still a lot of time left, but now I know exactly how much time I have. I can't put off until tomorrow what needs to be done today.

I'm also looking forward to what will become of this new relationship dynamic with the newly crowned Princess Alice. Perhaps now the constant speaker-toppling in Parliament will stop and the chamber can get something done.

("Travel Notice")

In an odd turn of events, I had to adjudicate a small claims case over a freedom of the press violation that impacted Heather Prior of Reaction2 online news. Normally, Princess Claidie hears those small petitions to the princely court, but, this time Claidie was the defendant. We all agreed that I would hear the case instead.

Claidie's anger towards Mintoria culminated in a lockdown of the border, with nobody, not even the press, being permitted to cross into Mintoria. She claimed it was for the instability caused by the conflict with the FPEC, but I didn't buy it, and I eventually got the truth out of her. She just wanted to hurt Mintoria and she was going about it the wrong way. I ended up citing the Infringing Decrees act of 1872 (Liselle's best piece of legislation...) to overturn the decree and then gave Miss Prior the maximum of ten-thousand Livre.

I also pointed out our lackluster response to the events in Prydania and the fact that while she wanted to hurt the Mintorians, the Mintorians were showing us up in the humanitarian aid department. I told her she needed to fix that issue. As much as I dislike the Mintorian government myself, eventually there comes a point where you do have to bring things back from the brink of disaster for the sake of the nation. After all, they do seem to be trying to make things right.

After consultation with Ms. Bettencourt, I've given instructions to all of the township and regional militias to hold special tactical exercises. A confrontation between the Phoenix Union and the FPEC is looking more inevitable by the day, but we are committed to finding a peaceful solution. Ms. Malorie Allen is doing her best in the PU Parliament to convince them to stop with the saber rattling, but I have a feeling we may be on our own. I must say that I am already proud of Malorie's day-one performance as Grand Presiding Officer. I hope we have the opportunity here to demonstrate how Silien diplomacy truly works, and let it be an example for others.

I can't remember the last time I witnessed a protest with such high intensity as what's on Norvalle's streets right now. The decree to join the Phoenix Union was widely unpopular. I regret giving my unofficial nod of approval for it, and as the hours pass and the voices outside grow louder, the more likely I might side with Alice and pull the plug on the project. We focused too hard on seeking new allies to defend us should we ever be threatened, but we should have known that joining this organization would have increased the probability that we would be threatened. It's a difficult balancing act; we're small enough where no large power particularly cares to cause us trouble, yet also small enough that others might consider us easy to plunder. What I think the government didn't realize is that we had already tipped the scales in our favor with the civilian militia system and our scorched earth mentality where everyone is dedicated to taking up arms to fight back. The Silien people learn to survive and care for each other. We protect our home, not fight other people's wars for them.

The government is currently investigating an organized crime ring that appears to be responsible for not only a violent robbery at Norvalle National Bank, but a planned attack against the sister princesses' cousin, Phoebe Covington. What makes the situation unique and perhaps even more threatening is that the attack appears to have been organized by my former defense minister, Samuel Palmer.

The attack on the bank became a test for the new Maximum Force Response protocol, a directive ensuring the highest level of protection for government officials and a response with an even more militarized and elite form of the High Risk Assault Team. Though Miss Covington complained of being inconvenienced by the protocol, that was the only complaint, as the team executed their mission to secure the government and neutralize the criminal threat swiftly and efficiently.

Also under investigation is Claidie herself for apparently accepting Livres from Palmer, which were meant for the Ministry of Defense, while she was away from the Princely Court and using them for personal endeavors. Granted, she was supposedly unaware of the source of the funding other than it came from Palmer. My hope is that she'll be responsible enough to simply repay it from her salary, since now she knows she shouldn't have accepted it.

The sister princesses and I find ourselves in a precarious position where sovereignty and self-determination are in direct conflict with each other, and how we respond to an incident abroad will shape the government's mindset on the issue for years to come. The Crilalians have voted to separate from the Kingdom of Plembobria, and once again the nations of the world are divided on the issue of whether to recognize Crilalia as its own nation or to refuse recognition and consider them still part of Plembobria. Princess Alice has given her own view, with a caveat that it is her opinion alone and not an official position of the government at-large. Considering that one of us has taken the liberty of making their thoughts known, I wonder of the necessity to act in kind or even come up with a unified response.

("Reacquaintance" and "Local News Topic - Bouthillier's Rant")

The sister princesses and I negotiated a trade agreement with the Kingdom of Prydania, primarily concerning agriculture products. Prydania is a mostly agrarian nation, but it recently came off of a civil war that saw the return of the Lothbrok family to the throne. Under government oversight, we'll be able to provide supplies from the Dorsett family's once-private company, Princess's Storehouse, and expand its operations. The Prydanians, meanwhile, will eventually be able to alter the supply and demand gap in favor of more supply here, leading to us being able to negotiate better deals with our other partners.

My hope is that our work with Prydania sets an example of how clean trade deals and bilateral diplomatic relations can be the approach the Principality takes to gain trust in the world and establish friendships. The approach we had been trying before with large alliances hasn't worked, as evidenced by what happened last week when our Phoenix Union delegation walked out. I believe it was simply a case of too many voices in the room, each with their own agenda. Finding common ground with so many different agendas is often too large of a task, but finding common ground between a pair of voices like we have done with Prydania, appears to be far more productive. I wonder if the same approach may be what is necessary to re-establish ties with the Malorian government after what Jean-Louis Bouthillier said on camera.

I was concerned about Alice during the trip. Her and King Tobias seemed to be enjoying each others' company a bit too much during the first night's dinner. I'm not opposed to her pursuing relationships with other royals, but she needed to be reminded what her duties and responsibilities really are and how those relationships impact her ability to perform those duties. She spent too long as a Lady believing her "royal duty" was to be married off for political purposes, and I'm having to remind her that the days of political marriages have long since passed.

It's not often that I pay attention to tabloids given their propensity to bend the truth, but when publications catch the attention of a foreign government such that they go out of the way to make a response, I take notice of that. A pair of articles from "No Idea" and "Woman's Meekly" prompted the McMasterdonian royal family to release a statement to deny wrongdoing allegedly performed by their soon-to-be-King. What was very noticeable was that the statement reminded the world that some royal families still restrict who their members are allowed to associate with, court, and eventually marry. After learning about recent Dorsett family history, I wouldn't be surprised if the sisters take notice as well and contemplate going public with their views.

Claidie and Alice's aunt is a genius. When Alice had to step away from princely duties after her experiences in Cogoria, Marianne Covington stepped in as regent for her seat in our three-person executive, and there was just something about her that screamed that this woman was a real leader. She's highly intelligent and very persuasive. If she wasn't technically royalty I could see her challenging me for my seat in 2023 and winning.

I made a huge mistake at the beginning of last year giving Claidie a nod to place us in the Phoenix Union. Yesterday, Marianne fixed it. By pushing through the Omnibus Collective Defense Consent Bill, she freed us from a highly unpopular obligation.

Despite our chartered militia system and comprehensive survival training in school and university, I still feel uneasy about how we're willing to throw away a much stronger defense just to prevent what would likely be a token force from going overseas in the event of an emergency. Nobody was asking us to commit the entire force, but perhaps the fact that such a deployment would only be a token force was itself the problem. However, I suspect it has more to do with who the other members of the Phoenix Union are; a pair of empires each with their own ambitions of global hegemony.

And to think she got caught because of her fingerprinting from her trip to the Gojannestad e-Prix. I get that she doesn't want the attention heads of state often demand on arrival, but she could have just asked Anthony to forgo all the pomp and circumstance just to allow her some time off, maybe with a deal to stop by the palace at some point to say "Hi". As a result of her need for maternity leave, I, as Speaker of the Chamber of Law, now assume the role of Acting Prime Minister until Miss Ellison's return, anticipated to occur in twelve weeks time.

I suppose it's fitting that I'll be closing out my political career this way, as I've announced my retirement at the end of the term, which will occur during Miss Ellison's maternity leave. I recall the many battles I had to either claim or retain the speakership, even from a now-Princess that was once relegated to being a commoner. Now, I'll be working side-by-side with her at the top on my way out.

Speaking of Alice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been working with her to prepare for her upcoming trip to the Samhain celebration in Merilia. If there's one thing about Miss Ellison that I need to ensure I replicate while I deputize for her, it is her refusal to allow others to get away with spewing lies, no matter where they come from. To this end, I've asked the Ministry of Commerce to investigate two Krevti corportations, ON67 and Potential Solutions, for committing fraud and deception regarding their shipping practices and production rates, for making unreasonable claims in an attempt to boost market share.

The problem is that there's no international court to be able for us to try the case in a fair, unbiased setting. Us attempting to try the case in a Krevti court would assuredly fail, and our courts don't have jurisdiction. It's one of the downsides to the world's mentality that holds national sovereignty as supreme, but it's a miniscule sacrifice that our people are willing to make to prevent the ideals and whims of foreigners from dictating our own lives.

It won't stop us from pursuing some course of action against ON67 and Potential Solutions, even if it is just to give them a load of bad press or ban imports into our nation from them.

I read an interesting news article that attempted to analyze Clement Northway's loss in the recent parliamentary elections, and for some reason I don't necessarily think the article was entirely right. It was an opinion piece, though, and we are all, of course, entitled to our opinions. I don't agree with the assessment that most people said "No, thanks" when asked if they wanted a greater hand in their government. I believe most people do want a hand, and that they just didn't think the NDF was the right party to lead the charge. I was at the last rally before the election, and there was just no substance behind the NDF platform besides wanting to unseat the Dorsett family from the chair.

It's going to be important for the parties to formulate platforms that don't focus so heavily on what to do with the monarchy and what level of involvement they should have. What we need to hear are plans for good governance and statements of core beliefs that transcend the monarchy and assume that the Dorsetts take on a lesser role in the future. From my discussions with Claidie, that seems to be the ultimate goal.

Solidarity and Foundations seem to have a good handle on setting an actual ideology that serves as a template for governance under party control. However, with Solidarity going hard liberal in some areas I don't agree with, and Foundations going more conservative in areas I don't agree with, I'm finding it difficult to find the right alignment. I just want to do what I feel is best to help the country grow more prosperous, but if I don't learn the new game, I may not have an opportunity to play in a few years.

("Two Thousand Years")

Claidie's frustration with international celebrations, galas, parties, and the like came to a head this week. She abandoned her planned responsibilities for the 2000-year anniversary of the Syrixian Empire and left mid-week, throwing out the plan for her to meet with Emperor Rajesh. Any working relationship between our two monarchies has basically been ruined as a result of that and the collapse of the Phoenix Union, especially considering how quickly the organization fell apart after we withdrew. I'm hoping that relationship can be replaced with a partnership between myself and the State Curator, but personally I think he's no more than a puppet giving a body for the emperor's voice to project from. I'm not expecting much in the way of productivity.

As an aside, I was well pleased with my two eldest daughters during the trip. They seem to understand the importance of proper behavior when their mother is representing the nation abroad. I see no reason to prohibit any further "educational field trips".

("Local News Topic - NDF Raided")

I'm not surprised by the NDF stating that a raid on their headquarters was an act of politically-biased persecution. Kneller's statement had to have been written by Northway. I've listened to Kneller in the Chamber of Law and not even he is really comfortable with the extremist rhetoric coming from his party leader. What I am surprised in, though, is the fact that such a raid happened in the first place. I didn't expect the Ministry of Justice to be eyeballing other parties, but they must have been tipped off to some sort of illegal activity for the subpoena to have been issued. I'm disappointed to have not been told about it before its execution, but I can understand why it happened that way. The last thing the ministry needs is to have its actions regarding political parties scrutinized by the target's opponents. That would set off claims of political suppression that would be hard to disprove.

An investigation into an organized crime ring that started almost two years ago has finally come to an end, as my counterpart from the New Democratic Frontiers party was sentenced to ten years imprisonment for conspiracy to commit sedition. Clement Northway had apparently been planning an overthrow of the monarchy for nearly a decade, and it was the slow movements in the overreaching plot that also slowed down our investigation into it. What we thought to be a simple bank heist turned out to be a plot to undermine the very foundation of our government.

I am proud of both of the sister princesses for their handling of the everything related to this investigation, including Alice's leadership and tenacity, and Claidie's reticence and discipline. I'm also pleased that as a result of the events of the past few weeks, we've had a glimpse of Claidie fully engrossed in her role as sovereign, even appearing the role and accepting all of the traditional decorum. It was something I wanted to see for so long, even if it's just this once.

I made the difficult decision to deploy the SDS Solidarity far abroad today in response to the persecution of Courantists in Oclusia. While the mission is limited to humanitarian efforts, such as the relocation of refugees, I cannot ignore what happened the last time the ship was deployed elsewhere in the world. Although the mission of the Coast Guard is to defend our own shores, it is my hope that our citizens understand what must be done in the name of human rights. We're not posturing for the sake of territorial possessiveness imposed by an alliance. We're on our own, joined only by other honourable nations with a common goal to save lives. I believe history will be on our side, and that other nations around the world will see that what we do is just and come to our aid if need be.

I consider myself fortunate and proud to have been a witness to the marriage of Tobias of Prydania and Alycia of Norsia. The two of them individually have had more than their share of hardships over their lives, and I hope that this joyous occasion provides them with solace and normalcy.

I also hope that the occasion provides a bit of inspiration for our own princesses to... get on with it, already! I hope Alice understands that the things I said while we were negotiating the trade agreement with Prydania were more along the lines of trying to dispel the idea that she had to marry a foreign royal, not that she shouldn't marry at all. I suppose it's her right to decide, though, but... perhaps I'm just seeing things from my own personal experience with the joys of motherhood. I do hope her attendance at the wedding provides a little bit of closure for her. She should have known that even if she wanted to pursue a relationship with Tobias, she really couldn't have without starting a war with Norsia.

If there was ever a concern about whether Claidie would randomly declare the principality to be a kingdom instead, with her as queen rather than princess, I have a feeling those fears have been laid to rest. I already knew from watching the Lodestar News's Viedeo post where Claidie slammed Sherwin's ascension to Raektkynning of The Vestrugat that there was going to be tension when the formal ceremony was to come for the community to attend. But, LORD almighty did she really have to go as far as to have my both my diplomatic and personal passports temporarily invalidated to prevent me from leaving the country, just to keep me from representing us there? For someone who has tried for a couple of years now to completely flip the script with regards to our place and willingness to participate in the greater international community, it really feels like she's flipped her own script now.

I'm finding Alice's report on her trip to Regunalia difficult to digest. I'm even questioning what the purpose of her trip really was; not a criticism of her decision to go, but rather a question of Regunalia's motives. Her report indicated that King Leonidas "lacked basic understanding of diplomatic protocol", granted this is coming from the same woman who poison-pilled the ANU meeting with her own behavior, but also that "he seemed preoccupied with putting on a show demonstrating aspects of Regunalian culture; whether historical or modern I am not sure." I am not really sure what to make of that.

I'm tempted to have the entire trip more closely investigated so we understand exactly what we spent taxpayer Livres flying her out there for.

("Sports News - National Teams Defunded")

When the news broke out about the end of government subsidies to the Silien national football teams, we received countless phone calls and emails from fans demanding an explanation for this decision. They wanted the funding restored, and I wasn't too keen on letting that happen. Alice, however, went full speed ahead with writing up a decree to restore the funding by taking money from other Ministry of Commerce projects. I told her, rather politely, to seek approval from the Chamber of Law. I'm happy to say that the Chamber of Law agreed with me and shut her proposal down.

What Alice doesn't understand is that Silien football is stuck in a feedback loop, where either success brings more success, or failure breeds more failure. We see the same thing in motorsport. The better we do, the more sponsors want to associate with us, the better quality of players we can recruit, and the more the system makes in ticket sales. When we don't do well, all that goes away. The sponsors don't invest, the players leave, people stay home. Unfortunately, we're in the latter.

So, how do we break the loop? We invest in local competition that is more entertaining to the crowds, rather than an international squad that routinely gets trampled over. We create a level playing field here, develop and retain talent, and put together a product that brings in revenue so that eventually it can be self-sufficient. Perhaps once we've developed further, we can rethink a national team.

In the meantime, though, there may be other opportunities elsewhere to consider...

We're currently monitoring a disturbance in Cogoria that was enough to warrant Ms. Allen's attention. She was contacted by Marianna Toft about troop movements on their borders and around the capital. Ms. Allen assures us that the movements appear defensive in nature. This is worrisome, though. This all seems rather sudden, and the last I heard, everything was well within the Bergum Pact.

The situation has become clear. Grigori Zhukov is dead. From my understanding, I believe this leaves Catherine Rokotov in charge. I very much doubt a return of the royalist movement, but I can understand the ruling party's paranoia. I'm sure Alice will want to be keeping an eye on Cogorian matters for a while, but I'm confident the Bergum Pact will keep things contained and stable. I don't forsee any impact to our own affairs.

("The Meeting of the Imperial Council")

I heard through various sources that royals from all over the world were recently sent a letter from Sultan Osman of Aydin, essentially reminding the world that he's a bachelor, and that he is looking for other royal families to submit their daughters for consideration to be his wife. Notwithstanding the principality's own recent issues in the past decade or so with the concept of arranged marriages, I had hoped the world would have come around by now to put a stop to the practice and to also put an end to this idea that royals have to marry royals or nobles. To Osman, I would say... go to a bar or some nightclub somewhere. I'm sure there's plenty of women who would be ecstatic at the prospect of marrying the sultan.

Oddly enough, when I asked Claidie and Alice whether they had received such a letter, they said they hadn't.

The Norvalle police contacted the Ministry of Commerce concerning the disappearance of a cruise liner that recently made a port call in our harbor, and we have begun an investigation. The ship was last seen in Arrandal's waters. It is critical that we find out who was aboard that ship and determine their fate, as this could have profound impacts on the tourism industry, especially with the ship disappearing so close to our own waters. And, should we confirm any deaths, it will be on us to provide closure to the families of the lost.

("The Big Exciting Hightonian Election of 2020")

Emilia Grünesfeld feared that a state visit from Diwan Sahab in the middle of the Alemricher election season would sway the people towards KRP, and it turns out she was right. She lost by less than five hundred votes.

People have the right to vote as they please. Not every nation allows their people to exercise that right, but we do, and so does Alemriche. So, I can't fault the people. But, people are easily swayed by name recognition. People see in the news that an ally favors a particular candidate and those people who favor that ally will remember the candidate. It's a basic strategy.

It's no secret that Syrixia will have an interest in our the 2023 election. With them disliking Alice and Claidie surely losing their favor after she snubbed the emperor and left the two-thousand years celebration early, then it's likely that only the person who sits in the chair I sit in now will have any working relationship with them for the forseeable future.

If they do prefer me in this chair, that's wonderful, but I don't need their favor or their money. In fact, its likely that Syrixian favor upon me would decimate my chances at re-election, given the public's skepticism after the Phoenix Union incident. But, no matter which way the pendulum would swing, I will bring it back to center. I am currently working with Foundations MP Cicelia Bouchard to draft new campaign finance regulations that will choke off foreign investment, and new government operational rules that will prohibit state visits from other nations within ninety days of an election, when the silly season begins in earnest.

This will be another proof of my willingness to work with all of our members, but more importantly, a proof of my commitment to the Sil Dorsettian people.

I want to make it very clear to anyone who reads these logs that I will not permit Rajesh of Syrixia to decide my fate in 2023. Here, imperialism is dead.

The new Chamber of Law was seated yesterday. I'm quite surprised by the fact that the election results didn't change the ideological lean of the chamber all that much. The people still only barely favor Claidie's more liberal agenda, and Alice's own evolution hasn't moved the needle any further to the left. I suppose the lack of significant change in the chamber composition signifies an end to the tumultuous phase of Claidie's reign, where the government was so unstable. Things have settled down.

But, now we're into the final trimester of my term as Prime Minister, and I'll need to start thinking of what I can campaign on. Is the fact that we're not all dead at the hands of the Mintorians and not subjugated by imperialist Syrixia enough? The ideological shift of the two major parties could prove to be my downfall. Solidarity used to stand with the princely family. Now, it's more of a liberalist party. Foundations used to stand against reformist monarchs, but now it's just an ordinary conservative party. Over the next year, I'm going to have to decide where I stand, because my way of thinking can't be defined by either extreme.

("The Six Point Agenda")

An interesting article appeared on my desk today. Reaction2 either became the victim of a misinformation campaign, or perhaps they're the ones launching a misinformation campaign. Apparently, they believe that I had a hysterectomy back in 2010 and that Rachel, Heather, Charlotte, and Melissa all aren't my daughters. An article like that should remind us that not everything being published can be taken as definitive fact. There are some publications out there that focus more on the entertainment aspect, to amuse us, to make us laugh.

It's almost like some professional wrestling promotions out there. Some design their business and their show around actual wrestling, while others are entertainment companies that have wrestling as part of their show. My husband and I both agree that if we want to watch wrestling, we'll watch an actual wrestling show. It's just like the news; if I want to read the news, I'll read the actual news.
