United Federation of Altharis Factbook

The nation of Altharis was formed in 1706 when colonists from Turkland, sent out to find new land aboard a Prediction ship. They find new land and along with it, tribes of natives. For many years they lived together and worked with each other, but when it came to expansion, the Natives were slowly being forced out. The Turks however, had adopted the vocal communication methods of the Natives, changing from spoken word to whistling. As the nation formed, the natives began to die out due to increased negligence by the Altharian settlers and the new diseases brought by them. Soon enough, most of the natives were dead due to disease or lack of food. It took some time but they eventually recognized that they did something incredibly wrong. The natives were given the power to create their own legal system, land, and government, and being incorporated into Altharis. This formed the United Federation of Altharis. A bill of rights was drafted, but not before a proclamation of peace was made: That no man should be persecuted on the basis of who they are, that no man should have to suffer in poverty or filth, and that life should be good and pleasant for all. To this day, that proclamation stands, serving as the moral basis for all laws in the UFA. At first, things were difficult, as everyone lived in poverty and filth. They soon set out creating a government, similar to that of a town council. It was here that all new laws were formed, and they called this place the Capital: New Rathenka. From there on, they were dedicated to finding new ways to aid their citizens, by employing those who needed it and educating every citizen. There was not much money to go around, but it worked. Soon other nations began to take interest in their new developments and expansion, and soon they were exporting designs for new machines, for money. The people of the nation soon prospered and worked even harder to better the great nation.

Following the industrial revolution in the 1800s, the UFA began various research projects on medicine and production technology, as well as investing a large sum of money into the education of all citizens, but it was at this time that they were invaded by a hostile force from the east. They were reluctant to fight but had no choice but to dispel the invasion. This war would go on for 35 years, and soon be known as The war of the Lands. Many people were lost in this conflict, and it hurt the nation greatly, but their research into medicine and machinery helped them win the war, and repel the invaders. In the years to come, there would be many further advancements in technology.

The technology of the UFA is advanced, to say the least. They are pioneers in Medical Research, AI technology, Clean Energy, and other such things. Almost all industry is somehow supported by government grants or research partnerships.

They produce a majority of their own food, through hydroponic gardens and genetic engineering of crops. However, they do not have enough resources to maintain their entire nation's food supply, so they rely on many other nations for food imports.

Healthcare is free to all citizens, and surgery is typically done with robotic assistance. They have methods of injecting substances without piercing the skin, as well as chemicals that can easily disinfect wounds.

The largest company, FosterSoft LLC, has developed the world standard in phone and computer operating systems, based on their advanced AI learning algorithms. They are also part of a research pact sponsored by the UFA government. GoogleSoft is also responsible for the extensive network of self-navigating public transport vehicles, which includes subways, trains, and busses in a partnership with the leading automobile company, and a major importer of cars, Red Star Motors.

A new company, XploreSpace, has recently entered a major partnership with the Altharan government and has been contributing greatly to their mostly active space program.

The impending localised resource shortage has been growing ever closer, prompting many to begin turning to recycle their old devices as a method of gaining resources. The recycling of non-electronics however, has been going on since 1935.

Jobs in heavy machinery has been on the rise, as well as jobs in the IT sector.

The Military of the UFA is average but is only ever used to defend the nation from attacks, rather than being used in offensive operations. They have, however, been known to provide aid to recovering nations who need assistance.

The society of the UFA is somewhat odd, with politeness being valued, but rarely ever used. A lot of pressure is put on individuals to perform at work, leading to an increasingly stressed population. Major health organizations have been working on new ways to decrease stress amongst the population. Productive work is one of the most valued things in Altharan society, and it is often a major point of argument amongst people, with the two major factions being Labourists and Recreationists. Most individuals have liberal values or central ones at that, but conservative values are often frowned upon and disregarded, but nonetheless tolerated. People try to be as inoffensive as possible, making conversation with the citizens of Altharis rather dull. Euthanasia is legal for those suffering from terminal diseases, or severe mental ailments. There is currently an ageing crisis, leading to the increased integration of automation into the workforce.

The language format is mainly a written Turkish Language, but speech is not done through speech, rather it is whistled.
