History

Main article: History of Estre (yet to be written)

Formerly, the country of Estre was a territory of the Argent Dynasties since the start, dating back to approximately 250 BC. Around 800 AD, Prydanian Vikings originating from the group fleeing from Osvald the Conqueror traveled southward to the Estrean region of the Argent Dynasties. The area was ravaged in a series of raids over the course of years. The Dynasties were too occupied with a collapsing empire to deal with the issue of raids, so they hammered out a deal. The region, now known as Estre in signing, would be handed to the Vikings on the stipulation that the Vikings come to their beck and call should they be summoned. The deal was signed, and the duchy of Estre was formed.

Three hundred years later, the Argent Dynasties ultimately collapsed, releasing the duchy of Estre to subsist as a nation-state by default. With no contract to honor, the Vikings began to squabble amongst themselves on who was the lineage to best rule. Political instability stuck with the government for the next 200 years, and eventually, the incompetently run nation was invaded by Essalaneans during their great conquest of Craviter. This then sparked the Estrean Civil War, which led to the stabilization of government and the current dynasty of the Styrkesons.

After this, the king at the time (Francois Strykeson the First) organized an advisory council of lords known as Le Conseil des Seigneurs (The Council of the Lords) in an attempt to mitigate detrimental ruling methods and to also voice the people's opinion on the current state of the nation. Seven hundred years later, the nation exists quietly on the back burner of international influence as an absolute monarchy.

Government and Politics

The political process in Estre is handled through the will of the monarch and their cabinet of The Council of Lords. The Council of Lords lack any meaningful power, as they are only an advisory body, but it is a duty for the current monarch to attend their discussions. Through these discussions of the current state of affairs, they hold the power to influence the monarch into making decisions that will benefit the country. The monarch holds absolute power over the government and the country and can do as they please to a certain extent. The monarch is not exempt from the judicial system and may be tried for any new policies that either only benefit themselves and/or detriment the country.

The Styrkeson lineage dates back to the 1200s as a minor noble house competing for political power during the 200 years' worth of power struggle in Estre. After the last heir of the Styrkesons (that being Francois Styrkeson), was crowned, the status of his house rose to nigh-omnipotence in terms of the running of the nation. Ever since the royals of Styrkeson blood are respected from the actions of their ancestors, but also have high expectations placed on their shoulders to live up to former monarchs. Within Estre, the royal family is well known for their conservatism, often being attributed to the somewhat slow development of new technology and lack of social progress.
