There are currently five Ministries, Home Affairs, Foreign Affairs, World Assembly Affairs, Communications, and Culture. The names alone should provide a rough idea of what each Ministry does. Each Ministry is run by a Minister appointed by the Delegate. The Ministers in turn appoint Deputy Ministers and all other members of the Ministry are known as the Executive Staff.
To clarify, the Executive Staff is the body of residents and citizens that are employed by one or more of the Ministries of the Executive Government. It is essentially The North Pacific's equivalent of a civil service. The Executive Staff provides a direct path for residents to get involved in the Executive Government. It is ideal both for new residents who want to gain experience in how the government operates, and for experienced citizens who are looking to contribute to the region though the Executive.
This tutorial is about the Ministry of Communications.
The rank system in the Ministry is the usual, Minister (MoCO), responsible to the Delegate, and Deputy Ministers (DMoCO) responsible to the Minister. The difference being that the Minister is also the Executive Editor. He also may at times delegate his Deputy Ministers to become Managing Editors who are trusted to run media titles.
The Ministry of Communications is responsible in supplying the Region and abroad with quality articles of information and interest in magazine, audio and visual formats.
Currently the Ministry runs 3 magazine publications. The North Star, The Northern Light and the Role-play Reel.
The North Star is a monthly collection of reports from The North Pacific, and serves as a global publication with a focus on events relating to The North Pacific that will be distributed as an update to our foreign embassies. The content normally contains a report on the exploits of the North Pacific Army, voting in the Regional Assembly and World Assembly and a Spotlight Interview with a TNP Nation. A Staff Writer in The North Star would also be writing reports in other specific subject areas, e.g., judicial news, legislative affairs, election reviews, and so on. These reports should aim to be roughly 400 words in length.
The Northern Lights is a bi-monthly publication and is the official newspaper of The North Pacific, and it is a global publication with a focus on relevant and timely articles. The exact subject area is usually determined after discussion between the author and the Minister of Communications, based on individual interests and on the current staffing needs. The articles submitted are expected to consist of roughly 1250 words. The articles include relevant and interesting analysis.
Roleplay Reel is a joint publication by The North Pacific's Ministries of Communications and Culture. This magazine is designed to show off TNP's roleplay community to the NS world, and to highlight the interesting characters, nations, and worlds that roleplayers here have put so much effort into creating. It contains a series of showcases that draw attention to roleplays worth reading. The articles submitted are expected to consist of roughly 1250 words, though the emphasis is on quality not quantity.
The Audio Visual Department is known as The Northern Broadcast Service (NBS). NBS is the official YouTube channel of The North Pacific, and is designed as a podcast to spread information both within the region and around the world. NBS hosts news shows, feature series, bulletins, and newcomer tutorials. Staff members of NBS, write podcast scripts, help schedule podcasts and interviews, and broadcast their voices over the air.
