Believing that some restrictions must be placed on fishing in order to maintain a healthy and biodiverse marine ecosystem.
Understanding that populations of important species of fish are in fact declining.
Aware that overfishing can eliminate fish that are vital to the environment.
The General Assembly,
1. Declares that these restrictions are necessary to protect fish.
2. Mandates that the industry of fishing can not capture fish that are:
a. vital to the ecosystem of which they reside in
b. drastically declining
c. have been recovering after a disaster
3. Defines the term"overfishing" as fishing to a point where there is 10,000 or less mature fish in a species.
4. Prohibits overfishing a species.
5. Requires states in the WA do enforce these laws.
