Aterkom's creation: Due to dissatisfaction with King Sven II's taxation increase which was used to fund yet more lavish celebrations for himself, the ONXS (Organisation for the New Xentheridan State) executed a coup in 1766 where they stormed and slaughtered the Parliament and executed the King. They then proclaimed a new state under their rule, renaming it to Aterkom; initially, the first few years were prosperous, but Aterkom kept hold by rigging the voting system.
Xenophobia: It began as a followup to the royal family's/government's rejection of colonialism, basically, and it started by teaching and arming the populace in a fear of invasion, especially in a region surrounded by empires; there was a massive fear stirred up that Xentherida could be next to be colonised. They then began pirate raids on Syrixian shipping under the guise of "sabotaging invasion efforts" and then that devolved into "We should attack and subjugate them so they never get the chance to colonise Xentherida in the first place. As a note, colonialism was basically rejected because of the Xentheridan Paganist beliefs against enslavement, who believed it morally wrong; since vast amounts of the populace and government were pagan, then they believed that if they took on empiricism then their nation would collapse due to angering the spirits of nature that they exploited, which they saw as all the wars the empires had. Aterkom also twisted this into saying that they were that angered spirit, hence why they went to war with Syrixia, a major empire. Basically attempting to justify revenge.
The leader was the ONXS, which switched its name to the APP (Atekrom People's Party) when they did the coup. The leader was passed down, beginning with Magnus Lindeman, and then to Heidi Simonsson and finally Mathilde Eklund; the latter two leaders were both the major influencers to actually beginning the anti-imperialist wars.
