Balder Statement Dissolving the Treaty of Camelot with Albion
The Storting has today unanimously voted to accept my recommendation to dissolve the Treaty of Camelot between Balder and Albion. The Treaty of Camelot is no longer in effect. Balder is further terminating all in-game and off-site embassy relations with Albion. This is not an easy decision, as Charles Cerebella, a former Delegate and King of Balder, founded Albion. However, the circumstances force us to conclude that this is the correct and necessary choice.
Balder’s decision to dissolve the Treaty of Camelot follows an incident where Cassius Cerebella, a Prince of Albion and a member of its Vanguard of the Realm, supported military operations against The New Inquisition and Albion refused to take action to address the situation or even acknowledge that a problem existed. This created a breach of Article 1, Section 2 of the Treaty of Avalon between TNI and Albion, which forbids either party from indirectly supporting military operations against the other. Balder is disturbed by the blatant lack of respect that Albion has shown for what was at the time its ally TNI, a region which guaranteed our own early security as one of the two original signatories to the Pact of Friendship alongside Europeia.
More importantly, however, Balder cannot trust an ally which willingly disregards its treaty obligations. As Albion has allowed personal grievances with the leaders of its allies to override its adherence and fidelity to the commitments it has made in the case of TNI, we can have no confidence that they would treat Balder any differently if the same situation arose. Respect for treaty obligations is the foundation of trust within inter-regional relations. Albion has broken that trust. We accordingly judge that remaining allied to Albion no longer helps protect our security or interests.
Furthermore, we are alarmed by the Government of Albion's public displays of dishonesty, immaturity and maliciousness in the course of the discussion surrounding their Prince’s actions. Using a nation and region entrusted to its Lord Commander, Christopher Bishop, during his tenure as UIAF Joint Commander, Albion changed the WFE of The United Imperial Armed Forces region to suggest that the alliance was being re-formed with Albion, Kingdom of Alexandria and Slavia. Albion did this to antagonise the LKE and TNI. Given that Kingdom of Alexandria and Slavia have confirmed that they did not consent to being included on the WFE, it is apparent that this was an action taken entirely by Albion. The changed WFE also linked the UIAF region with Benevolent Thomas, the founder of the Grey Wardens, a region that Albion previously recognised at the Fourth Monarchist Conference as posing a threat to Balder and other monarchist powers. Albion then issued an outright denial of any involvement, before fabricating logs suggesting that another party was responsible. Balder does not wish to be allied to any region that behaves in this manner.
