President Repeals Treaty with The South Pacific
Written by JayDee
(September 3, 2017) In an address to the Republic, President Writinglegend officially announced the dissolving of the Treaty of Friendship with The South Pacific (TSP). The Treaty between the two governments has stood for almost five years, but recent events forced Europeia to dissolve its end of the treaty.
“The South Pacific of old is not The South Pacific of today.” Writinglegend said opening the address, “When the Republic of Europeia signed a Treaty of Friendship with TSP in 2012, we expected a cordial relationship of mutual cooperation and friendship.”
“We have seen little cooperation in military, cultural, and diplomatic affairs," President Writinglegend stated to address recent concerns from gameplayers that The South Pacific had been treating their Independent allies as second-rate. "Only when it was in The South Pacific’s strategic interest to put focus on our relationship did they recognize our regions were allies and pursued cooperation."
The President further highlighted the recent usage of the treaty to justify an ideological position. “In recent times, the only use this alliance has seen is being invoked on the NS Gameplay forum, whenever convenient, as a means to justify The South Pacific's claimed ideological position.”
Within the statement, President Writinglegend noted the diverging interests and values of Europeia and The South Pacific. "On the battlefield, we find ourselves on opposite sides of conflict more often than on the same side. Outside of the battlefield, our incompatible interests and values has led to little interaction." He would go on to note that The South Pacific has distanced itself from and denounced the ideology of Independence, while moving towards a defender ideology.
In lieu of the following, the President called for the dissolving of the Treaty of Friendship between Europeia and TSP. “All of the above have brought us to a point where this is no longer a feasible relationship, and have made it clear that the Treaty of Friendship no longer brings about mutual benefit.” He has made it clear that the fuel behind this repeal was the lack of mutual cooperation brought upon by diverging regional interests.
In accordance with the Constitution, the President needs approval from the Senate in order for the treaty to be officially dissolved.
The South Pacific (TSP) of old is not The South Pacific of today. When the Republic of Europeia signed a Treaty of Friendship with TSP in 2012, we expected a cordial relationship of mutual cooperation and friendship. The treaty outlines basic obligations for cooperation, including joint military ventures.
The South Pacific was recently publicly criticized for treating their Independent allies as second-rate. It pains our Republic to say that these allegations are true. Since the Independence Convention, The South Pacific has collaborated in a limited fashion with the Republic of Europeia. We have seen little cooperation in military, cultural, and diplomatic affairs. Only when it was in The South Pacific’s strategic interest to put focus on our relationship, such as after we made an electoral commitment to repeal the treaty, after they were lambasted for their lack of cooperation, and after their ideology was questioned, did they recognize our regions were allies and pursued collaboration.
Our regions have seen our interests and values diverge. The South Pacific has continued to distance itself from independence, even denouncing it and working with those who seek to destroy it, and have moved towards a defender ideology. On the battlefield, we find ourselves on opposite sides of conflict more often than on the same side. Outside of the battlefield, our incompatible interests and values has led to little interaction. Indeed, in recent times, the only use this alliance has seen is being invoked on the NS Gameplay forum, whenever convenient, as a means to justify The South Pacific's claimed ideological position.
All of the above have brought us to a point where this is no longer a feasible relationship, and have made it clear that the Treaty of Friendship no longer brings about mutual benefit.
Therefore, the Republic of Europeia hereby repeals our Treaty of Friendship with The South Pacific.
From the President of Europeia,
