Hello all,

I had a question in regards to the basic statistics associated with our nations. What, exactly, do you use as actual numbers for crafting and building the roleplay aspect behind your nations? I've been using the statistics and numbers generated by NationStates itself, but now it's gotten to the point that it's borderline utterly ridiculous and completely unrealistic. I currently have a population around 700 million, with roughly 77,700km2 of land. For a country of that size to have that population is ludicrous in my eyes, but I don't know how acceptable it would be to just make up a more realistic number. This applies to nearly all areas where a total sum is concerned; e.g., economic production, population, etc.

So I guess my question is: is it acceptable to bring those absurdly high numbers down to more reasonable levels?

We do not use NS Stats in RP. All the numbers are made up; generally though people pick a real life country that they want to emulate or is close in land size to what their nation is in on the map and use that as a basis on what to work from. This helps quite a bit with figuring out stuff like population size, military size, GDP, GDP per capita, etc.

More than just acceptable, it's encouraged to not directly use NS gameplay stats, since, as you said, they can get quite unreasonable (for example, my NS nation has over 2 billion people and only 45% employment; not very realistic). So feel free to make up more realistic numbers. They can be based on NS stats if you wish, but try to keep them realistic and reasonable.

For a bit of an idea of what numbers are common, feel free to check the National Information subforum, real life countries' statistics (yay Wikipedia), or even ask for guidance either here or in the RP Discord server.

Thank you very much Darcania.

I'll get right to work on making a more realistic Factbook, then! :DD
