"The Thenacans were a local people of many tribes that were first discovered by nearby McMasterdonia. And through influence by diplomacy and early colonization efforts, adopted the language of Mercanti early on. This effort to bring the Thenacan people under the McMasterdonian flag was halted and eventually abandoned due internal struggles in McMasterdonia.
Just a couple decades later, brave settlers from the Syrixian Empire came during the Colonial Era (approx. 1698). Like before, diplomacy was established between the two peoples, and the settlers were allowed to form their first colony. But in the decades later on, not all was peaceful...
Tensions formed as ill-tempered military leaders on both sides desired the other to fall, and instigated conflict. This eventually came to a head in an all out war between a Thenacan warband and a Syrixian military expedition. Gunpowder, steel and tactics clearly won over wood, passion and fighting-skill.
Many of the tribes, now just women, children and elderly men left, surrendered to the counter-attack. The Tribes of Thenaca fell under the flag of the Empire of Syrixia, and colonization efforts redoubled.
(WIP TBC: the 200+ years of the Syrixian colony)
However, in late 1925, protesters and rioters in the capital (secretly assisted by the first colonizers, the Empire of McMasterdonia) seized the Governor-General's house and took over the city. In response, the Emperor sent a liaison escorted by troops to see what was going on. The Thenacan rebels in the city demanded that the Empire grant them responsible government and more sovereignty.
The Empire responded by negotiating, and the resulting treaty created the Commonwealth of Thenaca, a Commonwealth Realm with an elected Prime Minister and Parliament.
Thenacans value democracy and civil rights but also tradition, morals, national pride, and a sound economy; they started out as an underdog after they were given sovereignty, but Imperial support as the modern era progressed led Thenaca to stabilize after its initial years.
Today it's a prosperous nation." - A short summary of Thenaca (RP).
