COE is a candidate for Justice

I would say that I have had a fairly successful term as justice. I was the moderating justice for both decisions that the court made this past term, and I was quite satisfied with my appointments of THOs that contributed to those decisions. I contributed heavily to the revisions of the evidence rules that were made this term, and drafted the new Request for Review template that is being released today.

In summary, I am an active and capable justice, and I would like to continue as such for another four months.

I will be happy to discuss this matter with the community.

I believe that you have done an exemplerary job as a justice thus far, and think you'd do well being re-elected.

What trials did you preside over?

As a follow up, some might say that the fact that you didn't nominate yourself but rather had to wait for someone else to nominate you would indicate that you don't actually believe you are suited to this job. How would you answer such statements? Please reply in iambic pentameter.

Will you make sure that court rulings are posted in the appropriate archive so they appear on the Laws page? Especially since the most recent ruling on the page is from when I was on the Court?

Funkadelia:
You have always been one of the more reasonable legally minded folks, I feel. Good luck. :)
Mystery Player:
You did well last term, I see no reason for you to not do well next term. Good luck!

As near as I can tell, there are three rulings missing from the laws page. When the Chief Justice and I spoke about this matter, it was agreed that she would make it a priority to properly archive court rulings by the end of this term.

To answer your question, that duty is typically left to the Chief Justice, so if I am selected by my colleagues next term to be CJ, or if I am designated by the CJ for that task, then I will gladly endeavor to keep the laws page up to date.

None this term. There were no trials.

I do believe myself to be prepared
To serve the region's court as justice, well.
I did not nominate myself out of
A sense of modesty, perhaps misplaced.

Can we expect more iambic pentameter for official Court rulings? I feel they need a little spicing up every so often. :P

Hey CoE,

What would you consider your greatest quality? How does that impact your role as Justice?

Isn't trumpeting your experience when you haven't actually done anything a bit disingenuous?

Oh that was well done indeed. However some would say that such blatant pandering to a well known couper and ne'er do well is indicative that you will do whatever it takes to win. How would you respond?

Tomb:
Full support, COE. Best of luck with the election.
Thank you!

I'll get back to you on this one after dinner.

There were no trials, but there were two opinions delivered on requests for review, both of which I was the moderating justice for.

I will not dignify this question with a response, since you did not properly continue the split-quote-pyramid without hanging quote tags. Amateur.

I've failed in my attempt to quote, and thus I concede that you should gain a position on the Court. Let it be known: COE is officially joining me as a Regressive Party candidate for Justice.

Hey CoE,

What would you consider your greatest quality? How does that impact your role as Justice?

OK, dinner's over. My greatest quality is my integrity. In the context of my role as justice, it means that my opinions are on the law as it exists, and not the law as I would like it to be. In my deliberations with temporary hearing officers this past term, a question that I raised with them time and time again was: "Is this interpretation something that the law actually says, or is it just something that the law should say?" This results in strong rulings, free of political bias and wishful thinking.

As I'm sure you've heard, confidential sources inside this forum allege that you and your campaign have ties to Russia The Black Hawks. Just how close are those ties, and how do they relate to your as-yet unreleased tax returns?

Some of you know my similarly-named cousin who resides in The Black Hawks. I am certainly sympathetic to TBH, and raiders everywhere, but it is untrue that my candidacy for justice is tied in any way to a foreign government. Nor does it have anything to do with taxes, mine or anyone's.

So, you admit that you have no intention of releasing your tax returns, now or ever?

How much have you received in campaign donations from the nefarious DBoP (Dark Bird of Prey) SuperPAC, to which your... cousin... is a leading contributor?

I have worked with you on the court and based on that experience I think you would make a fine justice if elected. Since I am also candidate I hope voters will give us the opportunity to work on the court together again.

Hey COE,
As a new member of this game and recently approved citizen, what can you do as a justice to ensure that people have a smooth transition into this game, and have them abide and interpret the laws in as fair of a way as possible? What kind of steps can you take with the executive branch and our ministers/cabinet to ensure this?

I don't want to answer any questions about DBoP. And you can have my tax returns when hell freezes over.

The court is, by nature, a reactive body, so we are limited in what we can actively do to help new nations in the region. Unfortunately, most of the time, if a nation is interacting with the court, it is because either 1) they perceive their rights have been violated by the government, 2) they are accused of a crime, or, worst of all, 3) they have been elected attorney general. That is not to say that there is nothing we can do. I think our past court rulings could be much better titled and organized for easy reference and browsing. Sometimes it is difficult to know if there have been any rulings on a particular law or policy, which can lead to incorrect interpretation of the law. This is actually SillyString's idea, but if we were to title or rulings with a summary of the actual decision (e.g. "Candidacy declarations must be made in the designated thread," instead of "In regards to the Judicial Inquiry filed by Funkadelia on the limits of Election Commissioners' powers") then it would be much easier to reference and understand by newer nations. Also, we have many rulings on the books that have essentially been overturned by future decisions or new law. It may be a good idea to list these separately, or mark them in some way as outdated. We could also perhaps put footnote references into the legal code with links to relevant court rulings, but now I may be too optimistic.

In which region were you born, mr Crushing HUSSEIN our enemies? Unless you release your birth certificate no true-blooded North Pacifican should vote for you.

Your grandmother in The West Pacific said, 'Oh, no, he was born in The West Pacific and I was there and I witnessed the birth.' She's on tape. I think that tape's going to be produced fairly soon. Somebody is coming out with a book in two weeks, it will be very interesting.

An 'extremely credible source' has called my office and told me that crushing Hussein our enemy's birth certificate is a fraud. A lot of people do not think it was an authentic certificate. ... Many people do not think it was authentic. His mother was not in the hospital. There are many other things that came out. And frankly if you would report it accurately I think you'd probably get better ratings than you're getting.
