Forum Mentoring
Forum Mentors,
I want to thank you all for signing up to become Forum Mentors. I need everybody here to understand that this position is of great importance to our whole community. We are going to be directly in touch with new players as we help and guide them as they integrate into our forum community. And so I need each one of you to be dedicated, patient, and consistent with your assigned mentees throughout the process. At times, you are going to encounter players that have this whole game figured out. You're going to encounter players that you can easily tell will make great future Delegates. But at the same time, I will guarantee that you will encounter new players who have no clue what is going on and that may constantly get in touch with you and request your help. It is important that you treat all of them with utmost respect and that you be patient throughout the mentoring process. Your attitudes could really determine whether we gain or lose members. I apologize if this common sense to many of you, but your attitude during the process is just as important as the actual task you're assigned with, and I just wanted to stress that point out.
Now, I'm going to outline how the forum mentoring process works.
Forum Mentoring:1. All Forum Mentors are to check this thread multiple times a day. You will be ASSIGNED mentors here. Every time a new member joins our forums, the Minister of Home Affairs will make a post in THIS thread assigning the new member to one of the mentors. And so, it is essential that you access this thread frequently so you can get in touch with your mentees.
2. Upon learning who your mentees are, you proceed to write and send them an Introductory PM. This PM basically needs to outline the following:
- A general description of what NS is about.
- A general description of things to do around the forum along with important links (Executive Staff, NPA, Citizenship, etc).
- An explanation of your role as their assigned mentor.
*You will be supplied with a sample Introductory PM that you may use.
**Note: DO NOT SEND the PM if the member's title is still "Validating." They will not receive the PM. A validating account cannot send or receive PMs. A validating member's account becomes a normal account after making 3 posts on the forum. And so if you happen to be assigned to a Validating Member, wait about 24 hours, and if they remain in the "Validating" status at that time, send them a Telegram letting them know that they can become full members by posting 3 times. You will be supplied with a telegram sample for that.
3. If your mentee messages you and replies, please reply back to them within a timely fashion, especially if they are asking a question.
4. Please post below if your mentee responds (or does not) within 24 hours.
5. If your mentee does not reply but continues to be active after 5 day, then you will send them a Follow-up PM. You don't have to worry about tracking an unresponsive mentee over a 5 day period. The Minister of Home Affairs will do that and let you know when to send the Follow-up PM.
Introductory PM:Hello [member's name]!
Welcome to The North Pacific forums! I am [your name], and I have been assigned to be your forum mentor. As a new member, I understand that the forums could be a bit intimidating, but I am here to break it down for you and answer any questions you may have. First of all, I would recommend that you go ahead and join our regional chat. TNP is one of many regions in NationStates that use Discord as its regional chat. Here is the link to it: https://discordapp.com/invite/0p2MoFJe5Tq8M3Kd
You can get live help on our regional chat, get to meet many members of our community, and take part in political, regional, and role-play discussions.
Also, feel free to start a thread/topic and introduce yourself in our introductions sub-forum here: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/forum/39572/ We would love to learn more about you!
First and foremost, I recommend that you go ahead and apply for citizenship. By obtaining TNP citizenship, you not only get access to more parts of the forum, but you can also create and sponsor legislation, hold public office, vote in elections, and run in elections. You can apply for citizenship here: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/7306731/
Once that's done, you could apply to be a soldier in the North Pacific Army (NPA)! The NPA is one of the largest military forces in all of NationStates, and it is unique in the sense that it participates in both raiding and defending. If you're into action and would like to go up the ranks of government, then the NPA is just right for you. You can apply to become a soldier in the North Pacific Army here: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/7279690/
If you do not want to join the NPA, that is fine, because there's another alternative to getting involved in TNP: The Executive Staff, TNP's civil service. The North Pacific has 6 government ministries each with its own Executive Staff that's tasked to help the Minister of each department with running their respective Ministries. Joining the Executive Staff is really the fastest way to get promoted in the Executive Branch. It is very, very common for a new member to be promoted to deputy minister or minister upon contributing to a ministry and showing strong work ethic. You can apply to join the Executive Staff right here: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/7198621/
The North Pacific has an active role-play (RP) department where you can write about your nation and its history, current events, culture, and anything else that comes to mind. In addition to that, you can interact with the nations of other players. You can establish treaties, go to war, trade, and much more! The North Pacific also has a whole role-play moderation team that can help you with getting started on an RP. You can view the role-play subfourm right here: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/forum/3024521/
One last important link: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/forum/3006725/
This is where you can find important information about our region and read the answer to many commonly asked questions.
The opportunities in TNP are endless, and as your assigned mentor, I am here to help you throughout the way. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reply to this message or reach out to me on Discord.
Looking forward to getting to know you,
[Your Name]
5 Day Checkup:Hi [member's name]!
It's me again! I have noticed that you've been visiting the forum [or the NS site] more frequently, and I am glad that you have decided to checkout our community! I just wanted to check up on you and see if you have any questions.
Thanks for your time,
[Your Name]
Reachout Telegram:Hi there!
I am [Your Name], your assigned forum mentor. I noticed that you have registered on The North Pacific's forums. I am glad that you have decided to checkout our forums, because that is where all of our regional governance, political discussions, and role-play takes place. I saw that your account is still "validating" on our forums. Did you know that you could easily upgrade it to a full member status, which allows you to access more parts of the forums and send/receive PMs (messages), by posting three times on our forum? For example, you can apply for citizenship, membership in the North Pacific Army, and membership in the Executive Staff (civil service). That's 3 posts, and it automatically upgrades your forum account from "validating" to full member.
