The North Pacific Mentoring Program
Forum Mentoring

Forum Mentors,

I want to thank you all for signing up to become Forum Mentors. I need everybody here to understand that this position is of great importance to our whole community. We are going to be directly in touch with new players as we help and guide them as they integrate into our forum community. And so I need each one of you to be dedicated, patient, and consistent with your assigned mentees throughout the process. At times, you are going to encounter players that have this whole game figured out. You're going to encounter players that you can easily tell will make great future Delegates. But at the same time, I will guarantee that you will encounter new players who have no clue what is going on and that may constantly get in touch with you and request your help. It is important that you treat all of them with utmost respect and that you be patient throughout the mentoring process. Your attitudes could really determine whether we gain or lose members. I apologize if this common sense to many of you, but your attitude during the process is just as important as the actual task you're assigned with, and I just wanted to stress that point out.

Now, I'm going to outline how the forum mentoring process works.

Forum Mentoring:
1. All Forum Mentors are to check this thread multiple times a day. You will be ASSIGNED mentors here. Every time a new member joins our forums, the Minister of Home Affairs will make a post in THIS thread assigning the new member to one of the mentors. And so, it is essential that you access this thread frequently so you can get in touch with your mentees.

2. Upon learning who your mentees are, you proceed to write and send them an Introductory PM. This PM basically needs to outline the following:

- A general description of what NS is about.
- A general description of things to do around the forum along with important links (Executive Staff, NPA, Citizenship, etc).
- An explanation of your role as their assigned mentor.

*You will be supplied with a sample Introductory PM that you may use.

**Note: DO NOT SEND the PM if the member's title is still "Validating." They will not receive the PM. A validating account cannot send or receive PMs. A validating member's account becomes a normal account after making 3 posts on the forum. And so if you happen to be assigned to a Validating Member, wait about 24 hours, and if they remain in the "Validating" status at that time, send them a Telegram letting them know that they can become full members by posting 3 times. You will be supplied with a telegram sample for that.

3. If your mentee messages you and replies, please reply back to them within a timely fashion, especially if they are asking a question.

4. Please post below if your mentee responds (or does not) within 24 hours.

5. If your mentee does not reply but continues to be active after 5 day, then you will send them a Follow-up PM. You don't have to worry about tracking an unresponsive mentee over a 5 day period. The Minister of Home Affairs will do that and let you know when to send the Follow-up PM.

Introductory PM:
Hello [member's name]!

Welcome to The North Pacific forums! I am [your name], and I have been assigned to be your forum mentor. As a new member, I understand that the forums could be a bit intimidating, but I am here to break it down for you and answer any questions you may have. First of all, I would recommend that you go ahead and join our regional chat. TNP is one of many regions in NationStates that use Discord as its regional chat. Here is the link to it: https://discordapp.com/invite/0p2MoFJe5Tq8M3Kd

You can get live help on our regional chat, get to meet many members of our community, and take part in political, regional, and role-play discussions.

Also, feel free to start a thread/topic and introduce yourself in our introductions sub-forum here: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/forum/39572/ We would love to learn more about you!

First and foremost, I recommend that you go ahead and apply for citizenship. By obtaining TNP citizenship, you not only get access to more parts of the forum, but you can also create and sponsor legislation, hold public office, vote in elections, and run in elections. You can apply for citizenship here: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/7306731/

Once that's done, you could apply to be a soldier in the North Pacific Army (NPA)! The NPA is one of the largest military forces in all of NationStates, and it is unique in the sense that it participates in both raiding and defending. If you're into action and would like to go up the ranks of government, then the NPA is just right for you. You can apply to become a soldier in the North Pacific Army here: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/7279690/

If you do not want to join the NPA, that is fine, because there's another alternative to getting involved in TNP: The Executive Staff, TNP's civil service. The North Pacific has 6 government ministries each with its own Executive Staff that's tasked to help the Minister of each department with running their respective Ministries. Joining the Executive Staff is really the fastest way to get promoted in the Executive Branch. It is very, very common for a new member to be promoted to deputy minister or minister upon contributing to a ministry and showing strong work ethic. You can apply to join the Executive Staff right here: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/7198621/

The North Pacific has an active role-play (RP) department where you can write about your nation and its history, current events, culture, and anything else that comes to mind. In addition to that, you can interact with the nations of other players. You can establish treaties, go to war, trade, and much more! The North Pacific also has a whole role-play moderation team that can help you with getting started on an RP. You can view the role-play subfourm right here: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/forum/3024521/

One last important link: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/forum/3006725/
This is where you can find important information about our region and read the answer to many commonly asked questions.

The opportunities in TNP are endless, and as your assigned mentor, I am here to help you throughout the way. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reply to this message or reach out to me on Discord.

Looking forward to getting to know you,

[Your Name]

5 Day Checkup:
Hi [member's name]!

It's me again! I have noticed that you've been visiting the forum [or the NS site] more frequently, and I am glad that you have decided to checkout our community! I just wanted to check up on you and see if you have any questions.

Thanks for your time,

[Your Name]

Reachout Telegram:
Hi there!

I am [Your Name], your assigned forum mentor. I noticed that you have registered on The North Pacific's forums. I am glad that you have decided to checkout our forums, because that is where all of our regional governance, political discussions, and role-play takes place. I saw that your account is still "validating" on our forums. Did you know that you could easily upgrade it to a full member status, which allows you to access more parts of the forums and send/receive PMs (messages), by posting three times on our forum? For example, you can apply for citizenship, membership in the North Pacific Army, and membership in the Executive Staff (civil service). That's 3 posts, and it automatically upgrades your forum account from "validating" to full member.

Here are some important links that you may want to look at:

Citizenship: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/7306731/
North Pacific Army: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/7279690/
Executive Staff: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/7198621/
TNP FAQs: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/forum/3006725/
Discord chat (regional chat): https://discordapp.com/invite/0p2MoFJe5Tq8M3Kd

If you have any questions, please feel free to reply to this telegram.

Thanks,

[Your Name]

Also, you are entitled to using the following badge:

Mentors, here are your assignments:

Tomb - The New North African Republic, Hendurt, Jebtismo
Kasch - ReallyJustBilly, ach_prime, mikew4444
Scorch - grandvenucia, tinanit, Jebtismo
Praetor - Abdel224, ThisOneOne, Jestrick
Bootsie - Murderofdragons, Paulau
Pallaith - SEA, queenelizabeth
Kondratev - melisende, Consotanza
Darcania - Navaronia, Democratic Republic of Ariana

You will find that most of these members are "Validating." You will also find that most of them have been validating for longer than 24 hours OR that they have not logged on in 2-3 days. Basically, we're on a recovery effort to try and bring them back. Most of them joined the forums about 3-4 days ago and continue to log into their NS nations. So I need you all to go ahead and send them the "Reachout Telegram" found in OP.

To find your assigned member on the forum, simply use this search tool: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/members/
To find their nations, just go to their forum account profiles and look at the field that shows their NS nation. If they have not put in anything, then report it here. You don't have to go searching for it in citizen applications, etc.

Democratic Republic of Ariana hasn't logged in since creating their account, hasn't posted yet, and has no listed nation. However, of the three potential nations that could match their name, Ariana, The Democratic Republic of Ariana, and Democratic Republic of Ariana, only one, the third one, exists. It is a WA nation still in TNP. I would, therefore, like to send the Reachout TG to that nation.

I would also love to see the raw code for the PM templates in spoilers underneath the quotes, using [nocode]
Code:
[/nocode] tags. For now, though, raw codes can be found by Quoting Tomb's post and getting the codes from there.

also, one other thing, but it's a bit nit-picky.

I'd also like to point out that links to threads that include page numbers (e.x. http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/7306731/139/) would become outdated pretty quickly when more pages get created. May I suggest you remove page numbers entirely in links (e.x. just http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/7306731/) so it automatically either goes to the OP or the newest post depending on the member's own preferences?

@Pallaith - That is fine. I will remove that nation from your list.

@Darcania - 1. Great job on locating the nation, and yes, you may send a telegram to it. 2. As far as the coding goes, I have not applied any coding to the PMs or the TG templates, and so it would be the exact same thing as what you're seeing in the quote form. 3. Thank you for pointing out the thread page numbers. You're not being nit picky at all, and I apologize for overlooking that to begin with.

@Kasch - Thank you!

Tomb:

Oh, I see, Zetaboards automatically surrounded the URLs with URL tags, didn't it? That makes sense, and it would probably do the same for us when we PM, I would guess. I usually surround my own URLs, so I didn't know that was a thing.

Yeah, Zetaboards automatically surrounds them. And yes, they do the same with PMs.

SEA has not responded to my initial telegram, but has posted an introduction thread and passed security check and is now a citizen.

ACH-Prime has made 7 posts on the forum so far and has responded to my first TG.

ReallyJustBilly has not made any posts on the forums but does regularly answer issues. We need to show them that there is more than just issues now.

Mikew4444 has made no posts on the forums, answered issues 8 days ago but since then has not been active whatsoever.

SEA has been active on the site and posted a couple more times, but no issues. He has ignored my telegram and resigned from the World Assembly.

Neither of my mentees has answered the TG/PM. Ariana has still not been on the forums since they created their account nor have they replied to my TG, however, based on their nation's activity page they haven't been on NationStates either since this mentoring program started.

Nav, meanwhile, hasn't replied to my PM, though he has read it (yay, message tracking) and he remains an active presence on Discord, and somewhat active on the forums. If he has any questions, he usually asks on Discord, and I'm certain he'd be fine with asking me through PMs if necessary.

Small update: Ariana still hasn't showed up either here or on NS.
Nav remains active, at least on Discord.

Alright. My absence has clearly hindered our work here.

Things are back on track now, and we're back to business. Expect new assignments soon.

Okay, here are your assignments:

Praetor:
USHC. Nation is: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=united_states_of_hellenic_citizens

AntiSin. Nation is: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=citiva
Not a single post, but they logged on yesterday. They need a reach-out telegram.

Scorch:
TheKingy34. Nation is: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=the_narish_isles

Pallaith:
Peteryaw. Nation is: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=marilands
He has applied for citizenship, but he still has less than the 3 required forum posts to upgrade his account and allow him to really see the forums. And so Pallaith, send him the Reach-out Telegram.

Done.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize this until just now, but Paddenia already has a mentor: Syrixia. Syrixia invited Paddenia over to NS from some other site they're part of. I've still sent the TG, though, mostly because I didn't notice til after I sent the TG.

I wasn't given more people. Oh well.

USHC seems to have joined us on Discord. I'll try to contact them there but they haven't responded to my telegram.

Taken care of. Radio silence from the other new mentees so far, by the way.

EDIT: Apparently strazyyy showed up on Discord this morning, so there's that. Will be seeing if I can reach out directly.

Praetor:

My bad, Praetor, that was an oversight on my end.

@Pallaith and Kasch, good job guys.

Z-Day is over, but its effects are not. We have gained about ~25 registered members between October 29/30th and October 31st. That's a lot of people, and there's a lot of potential in each one of them. I ask that you please get in touch with them soon.
