Foundation of Techislovakia

In the wake of the Second world war two superpowers dominated, the USSR and the USA with former powers such as England, Germany and France bulldozed in the chaos that had unfolded. Europe was unstable. The Eastern European nations that had been consumed by the Soviet war machine fell and became somewhat assimilated into the communist ideology and the West of Europe all crumbled to the demands of the USA who they had an economic dependence on due to the Marshall plan. The continent was in disarray.

Note: Alternate history incoming!

At the Potsdam conference where the USSR, USA and UK leaders met to discuss the terms of the German surrender it was decided that Germany could not be allowed to self-govern with all parties scared that Germany would repeat the mistakes made after the first world war. Two solutions were proposed, the first was the division of Germany into east and west sections with the west governed by France, US and UK and the east by the USSR, this had many benefits however all parties agreed that this may perpetuate the struggle between eastern and western ideologies. The second option was the creation of a buffer nation which would encompass the most radical portions of Germany and some of the lands in Poland, Czechislovakia, Austria and Italy that had been occupied by the Germans for substantial periods of time. This buffer nation would serve as a place where international troops could deter the Germans as well as keep a neutral zone between East and West. This second option was decided to be the better of the two and as such was chosen.

The nation would be called the Mecklenburg-bayern MZ (Militarised zone) or MBMZ for short and was officially founded on the 4th of October 1945. Its land incorporated the following major municipalities (north to south): Stralsund, Szczecin, Berlin, Potsdam, Poznan, Lodz, Liepzig, Wroclaw, Dresden, Prague, Nuremburg, Munich, Innsbruk, Milan.

The basic stance that the nation held to begin with was an authoritative style yet free in trade and speech however the German culture was somewhat suppressed and a few German civilians evicted from the land. MBMZ became renouned for its tariffs placed on any commercial vehicles wishing to pass from one side of the country to another and its strong leadership helped quickly get the region back on its feet. Many automotive manufacturers that had been destroyed during the war but had flourished under Nazi rule chose to re-found in MBMZ due to the low commercial taxes and international connections that the nation held. This embedded a deep love for machines in the nation's heart which still exists today. The US who was keen to get German scientific expertise that had been bountiful during the war used the MBMZ as a place where the scientists could work on US projects while the Soviets used the country to gain multiple naval bases in the Mediterranean.

In 1947 following fears caused by first nuclear missile tests both Sweden and Denmark donated Islands to the MBMZ in an attempt to bring a buffer zone into the Baltic sea thus protecting the two nations from mainland aggression. The islands of Gotland, Bornholm and Öland became incorporated into MBMZ and the nordic plans succeeded and both US and Soviet aggression in the Baltic subsided

As time passed the nation became its own new self, independent from both superpowers. The students who grew up in the nation became increasingly smart speaking a variety of languages with all students required to be fluent in English while they had a choice of learning either German or Russian or both if they chose. Many families were either involved in science or industry. Education became the most valued part of the nation's culture followed by discipline.

The culture took many aspects from other places, it took day to day life from the German natives and many of the British who immigrated after they had lost everything in the war. Some US culture became mixed in due to the US cultural dominance and the few US citizens who had moved to the country. The USSR failed mostly to spread culture to the country as they only had troops present in the country. And the southern european (Italian) culture mostly faded away.

Free elections were first held in 1954 when it was decided that the MBMZ had enough independence and trustworthiness to self-govern and the US and Soviets both signed documents giving the nation the right to self determination.

In 1969 following the moon landing which was largely supported by MBMZ engineers and scientists the nation declared in one voice that it no longer wished to be seen as merely a buffer zone controlled by others and renamed itself [nation=short]Techislovakia[/nation]. A nation was born, one where Techislovakians would prosper under their own government without the interference of others.
