Tajin Elections
Election Primaries have opened up in Tajis and it’s shaping up to be an interesting election year. Current President Reynard Anaukshai is running for reelection, continuing to represent the Unionist Republicans. His primary opponent is his brother Rycho Anaukshai, campaigning for the National Conservative Party’s nomination. Rycho has only one opponent to his nomination, Matilda Mulhadra the daughter of former Tajin president Atasha Mulhadra. The Constitutionalist party has declared a nominee already in former Lieutenant Colonel Rul Patiste, a well-respected adviser to President Anaukshai’s predecessor, Jin Mizmirro. This will be the first time in two decades that a third party will be running in the general election.

Reynard has proven himself to be a capable leader, despite much of the criticism that has been launched at him. Under his presidency the Economy has risen to the highest it’s been in thirty years, and his handling of the Rhuvish conflict has been one of his greatest successes.

Bothe Rycho and Matilda are arguing for less Esplandian intervention and greater autonomy from the Kingdom, though Rycho has expressed that he does not believe that completely giving up Crown Protectorate status is good for Tajis in the long run. Matilda on the other hand wants to push for the abolishment of the protectorate status to give Tajis a chance to stand on her own.

And finally, Rul Patiste is running on the platform for the creation of a Tajin constitution. Much like Matilda Mulhrada, he believes that Tajis can stand on her own without Esplandia’s protection, but that this cannot be accomplished without a written constitution outlining the future of Tajis. Amongst all the canidates, he's the only progressive, known for his belief in social welfare, anti-corruption, and rule of law.

Matilda Mulhrada announced her withdrawal from consideration as a nominee for the National Conservative Party, leaving Rycho Anaukshai to grab the nomination. Mulhrada’s announcement came after a week long campaign effort left her with less than 1% of the Conservative vote. She had hoped that her name would be enough to garner her support in Arkuit, Selonid, and Cailut where her mother’s presidency is still popular, but those regions seemed to favor either Rul Patiste or President Reynard.

Meanwhile both Patiste and Rycho seem to be neck and neck for votes in the central provinces, while the younger Anaukshai has garnered more support to the south. Both men seem to be tied which will likely hurt both campaigns in the long run. Reynard Anaukshai’s initial popularity numbers show him polling at four times the numbers of his brother and the Lieutenant Colonel, though younger voters may turn out to vote for Patiste in the General Election.

Today, the Karthied Herald held a Q&A session with presidential hopeful and National Conservative nominee, Rycho Anaukshai. Rycho hopes to defeat his brother in the upcoming election and be elected the eigth Tajin president. Rycho is a supporter of the nation losing its crown protectorate status, so our reporter John Harrimond sat down to talk.

Harrimond: We know you want Tajis to renounce its protectorate status, and this has gotten you a lot of criticism in Esplandia and here in Tajis. Do you really think this is a good idea?

Rycho: Eventually I would like to see my home country become completely autonomous, without the aid of Esplandia. This is a long term goal. Ten to twenty years from now. And it certainly doesn’t mean cutting all ties with the kingdom, because frankly Tajis doesn’t have that many allies and Esplandia has always had our best interests in mind.

Harrimond: Do you have any intentions to seek out the King’s endorsement?

Rycho: It is something I’ve had on my mind, but I’ll worry about that as we prepare for the general election.

Harrimond: What do you think about the third party canidate?

Rycho: Rul Patiste is a good man and a fine leader. I think he’d make a great president. Tajis has never had a serious third party canidate until now. I wish he wasn’t taking away my voters (laughs). What can you do?

Harrimond: What is your opinion on your brother’s handling of the Rhuvish conflict?

Rycho: That’s a loaded question. (pauses) My brother handled it well enough, better than many thought he would, but at the same time the conflict was short lived. The death of Ulrich put an end to that. And truthfully, Warden General Alayn deserves far more praise than my brother, especially for the fighting in Shinai.

Harrimond: Do you believe your brother was directly responsible for the Rhuvish incursion?

Rycho: Next question.

Harrimond: As far as the efforts at rebuilding Ancar, if elected, what would be your plan?

Rycho: Ancar is an important city for Tajis, historically and culturally. It’s the center for much of the wine trade, and its devastation during the conflict was horrible. It must be rebuilt. I know Esplandia has pledged financial support in the rebuilding efforts, and Rhuvanland will pay reparations as per the treaty, so that will take care of most of it, but Tajis must lead the way by providing the manpower. The money should also go to the rebuilding, and not into the pockets of corporations.

Harrimond: One last question. Who’s your pick for the Crown Cup?

Rycho: Really? That’s your question? (Laughs) The Tajin Berserkers. This year we’re going to defeat the Falcon’s, you wait.

After much consideration, Rul Patiste has dropped out of running for president as his poll numbers have remained around 12.5%. His campaign started off with strong support but now it looks like the initial voters were the only voters for Patiste.

In other news, Sherwin IV has refused to give his endorsement to Rycho Anaukshai, stating that he will continue to back the elder brother until his second term is up. This will be a big blow to Rycho's campaign, as many Tajin voters will throw their support behind the Esplandian king's endorsement, and with the general election coming up quickly, it looks like Rycho's campaign will hit a wall.

(OOC: New Poll Added)

As elections opened to the public it has become quite apparent that it will be another four years for President Reynard as voting is already swinging in his favor at 4:1 against his brother Rycho. The younger Anaukshai had hoped to attain the voters who had initially backed Patiste, but it looks like few were willing to vote for a conservative leader.

Reynard's progressive policies on trade, wages, and unions has earned him a good number of supporters, who have come out in droves to vote for his reelection. While voting will continue throughout the day, it is obvious that Reynard has won this election hands down.
