I've decided to overhaul Shei Ren's history. Here's my prototype. The time is measured here in the Eastern Calendar.
2698 BC- The first small Sheirenese kingdom is established on the side of the island opposite Laoshan.
2284 BC- A mythical noble named Shan Yu from one of the small kingdoms conquers the rest, unifying the island.
2273 BC- Shan Yu dies. He is posthumously renamed Tai Yonghuang, which means "Great Perpetual Emperor". His son Tai Shennong succeeds him, thus beginning the ancient Tai Dynasty, the first of 12 ruling dynasties of Shei Ren. The capital is set at the ancient city of Qinghai, which would remain the center of Shei Ren for centuries until the rise of Laoshan as a new capital.
1558 BC-Tai Zhongxi, the last Tai emperor, dies without an heir. One of his top advisors and friends, Yin Xuantong, has all Tai lands bequeathed to him. The Yin Dynasty begins.
1329 BC- The fabled War of the Powers begins when the entire coast of the island is seized by the personal forces of Yin Shiyuan, the heir to the throne. Yin Shiyuan's forces fight for two years against those of Emperor Yin Ruizong, until Yin Ruizong dies and Yin Shiyuan's brother, Yin Shenzhen, who remained loyal to his father, ascends to the throne. Another year later, Yin Shiyuan is killed in battle with his brother's forces and the war ends.
1046 BC- Yin Jieqing, the last Yin emperor, is overthrown after a peasant uprising led by Lu Xanhuo due to the emperor's terrible abuse of power. However, instead of taking control himself, Lu Xanhuo divides the island into 15 kingdoms so that abuses of power such as that of the last Yin emperor would never again torture all Sheirenese. Lu then takes power in his home state of Shu.
221 BC- Shei Ren is finally reunited by the Shang Dynasty. The country would be named Tianshang, or "Heavenly Island". Shei Ren would be called Tianshang until 1655 AD, when it was renamed Shei Ren. "Shei Ren" means "Abode of Peace" in Sheirenese.
206 AD- The last 5 rulers of the Shang Dynasty were all very weak, and at long last, the last Shang emperor, Shang Er Qi, simply loses the last of his power as one of his nobles, Xin Fusu, takes power in a bloodless coup and founds the Xin Dynasty, as well as a new capital, Jinqi; now the largest city in Shei Ren.
529 AD- The Xin Dynasty loses power after powerful imperial general Shu Hao takes power, adopts the title "Xinquzhujian", which means "Destroyer of Xin", and props up his friend, Yang Taizong, as Emperor. However, Taizong later tricks Shu Hao into giving him personal control of his armies, and then has Shu Hao executed, seizing complete and undisputed control of Shei Ren and founding the Yang Dynasty.
906 AD- In a similar fashion to previous coups, De Huanchi, an imperial general, tries to take power, however word gets out about the attempted coup, whichprompts other lords to do the same. The island breaks into ten small kingdoms.
912 AD- The Kingdom of Liang invades the Kingdoms of Xuchang and Xianyang, and defeats them both. Many believe the Liang will reunify all of Tianshang.
967 AD- After a series of campaigns, the Liang are on the verge of reunifying Tianshang when the last Liang king dies heirless. Liang breaks up.
1025 AD- The Kingdom of Nanjing attacks the Kingdom of Laoshan and is defeated horribly. This would mark the rise of Laoshan as the greatest city of Shei Ren, as opposed to the old city of Qinghai.
1259 AD- Laoshan finally unifies Tianshang. The leaders of Laoshan, the Li Dynasty, become the Emperors of Tianshang, with the first being Emperor Li Shen.
1538 AD- The Li Dynasty falls and is replaced by the Wei Dynasty. The Wei keep the capital at Laoshan.
1655 AD- The world colonial game is in full swing as the Kianese Empire of the west and the Syrixian Empire of the east compete for global power. Emperor Akbar IX orders the invasion of Shei Ren, a small island nation with a dense population nearly free of disease and with wealth nearly matching Syrixia itself, all of its colonies included. However, Emperor Wei Gao meets the Syrixian legions with nothing but a group of religious scholars and cooks, and invites the Syrixians to eat. Shei Ren becomes known via Syrixia's colonial network, and thus via trade everywhere else, as the world's most peaceful nation. Seeing a reputation growing, Wei Gao renames Tianshang to Shei Ren, meaning "Abode of Peace".
1763 AD- The Wei Dynasty's line runs out after the last Wei emperor, Wei Chiang, dies of tuberculosis the day before his wedding without producing an heir. Wei Chiang's close friend and steward, Bu Wen, is voted as Emperor by a council of Wei Chang's political friends and advisors. The Bu Dynasty is the current ruling dynasty of Shei Ren.
1799 AD- Emperor Bu Qianlong's scientists discover a way to make a steam engine. This technique spreads to Syrixia, and then to the world, and the Industrial Revolution begins as manufacturing is revolutionized. Shei Ren becomes extremely wealthy.
1836 AD- Emperor Bu Shunzhi enacts a policy of political armed neutrality and trade focus. This policy would last until the current day. would become the model, along with Tai Yonghuang and Li Shen, for all future Sheirenese emperors.
1979 AD- The current Emperor of Shei Ren, Emperor Bu Gai, ascends to the Dragon Throne of Shei Ren. Bu Gai, born in 1958, continues with the long work of Bu Shunzhi, building cities and modernizing. Shei Ren remains an absolute monarchy to this day.
