What Will Happen to Point North?

[New Haven]

Point North, a small island right off the coasts of New Sekai and Arux. The island is a temperate rainforest much like the pacific north west or southern Chile, in the Summer it's hot, very hot actually, yet the Winter has overcast and rainfall that can last for days. The island only has one major city (Located in the south), with a few small towns and villages spread out in the northern area of the island. The only major city is large, quite large in fact, with a population of over 1 million, Akara (Imagine a city like Singapore, yet farther north) is the capital and largest city in Point North.

Now, with it's close proximity to New Sekai and Arux, you'd think it was owned by one of those two, but it's not. It's owned by New Haven America, a country quite far away from Point North, yet through years of negotiations and trades and independence movement, it has fallen into the ownership of NHA... as a territory. Currently the territory of Point North is going through a decision on wether to join NHA as a state/region, remain a territory, or become independent. This is the story of both the politicians and the regular people involved involved in this decision, and how it could or could not alter the area.

The area is pitch black with nothing to be seen, only a faint sound could be heard "beep". Soon the area became lighter, and the sound became louder "beep beep", shapes started to appear the area became even lighter and the noise grew louder and louder "BEEP BEEP BEEP". It was a bloody alarm clock, a hand hits a button on the top and the sound finally stops, "Uggh, time to get up, got a lot to do.". The figure gets up, gets prepared and was in the middle of breakfast when a ringing goes off from the speaker phone on the middle of his table, "Good morning Mr. Robinson, we have a big day ahead."
"You say that every morning, Shara."
"Well isn't running this place a big job?"
"Yes, you're right."

Mr. Robinson, whose full name is Andrew Robinson, is the current governer of Point North. He's a young man, late 20's early 30's, with short black hair and blue eyes, he's also tall, around 6'4", yet he's rather thin for a man his height. He's also the leader and on of the main activists for Point North's state/regionhood.
"Today you have a tour of the northern towns and meeting the locals. Bring a change of clothes, it's going to rain and you can never be too careful."
"Right."

Andrew finished breakfast and got ready to leave, he stepped out of his house just outside of Akara and into the car ready to leave for the northern area of the island. The car started on it's journey.
"Hello Shara."
Shara, whose full name is Shara Kamia, is Andrew's assistant, and probably the person who's around him the most. She's a medium height women, 5'8"-5'10", average weight, with long red hair and green eyes, which appeared bigger due to her black-rimmed glasses.
"Hello Mr. Robinson, ready?"
"As I'll ever be."

Today is voting day for Point North, while Andrew is taking a quick visit to the northern half of the island, voters are lining up to the polls, casting their votes.

Currently, becoming a state/region is currentlyleader, while independence is slowing gaining. Remain as a territory is currently the least popular option.

Independence leaders and remain leaders are currently trying to rally people to their sides. Now, you may ask why the Governor of the territory wouldn't be in the capital? Simple, he's trying to make and see what voting is like in the lesser populated towns and areas, while also meeting leaders in the areas.

While the southern half of the island is currently neck and neck in this race, the northern half is much more decisive, currently joining as a region or state is in the lead by a mile, while 2nd place is to remain as a territory, while last is independence.

This fact should not be surprising, the northern half of the island only has a few thousand residents (Due to the fact it's a nature preserve), most of whom aren't too fond of Akara's politics, independence would just drag them along with Akara. Though, considering the North's population, their vote is considered rather miniscule at best.

Back in Akara, polling stations have closed, and votes are being counted. With the Governor returning, he talks with other leaders and prepares for the results.

As the votes are getting counted, PN leaders are one the edge of their seats, while most on the NHA mainly passively checking the results (Excluding government leaders of course).

After hours of waiting, the results finally come in, and it's official, State/Region status wins with about 60% of the vote, Independence had 30%, and territory had 10%.
