Idk, I'm running out of clever titles. :P

I'm going to keep this short, since most of you know me already. I would love to be elected back to the court for another term, and I hope you'll vote for me!

Questions, comments, and so on are of course always appreciated.

Asta! Great to see you running! The justice race is turning out to be exciting, and it's great to see such competent people run.

A few questions, though.

1. You are currently serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs. What made you decide to effectively leave the position you are currently serving and run for Justice instead?

2. Had you stayed as Foreign Affairs Minister for the remainder of the term, what accomplishment would you have probably cited as an achievement of your administration by the end of it?

3. What does Asta bring to the Court that the other challengers do not?

Best of luck to ya! :)

1. You are currently serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs. What made you decide to effectively leave the position you are currently serving and run for Justice instead?
Actually, I decided to do so long before being appointed as MoFA, and I told Raven about this up front. I love serving on the Court, and it's an area where I really excel - I don't think I'm all that good at executive positions, and they're not what I really like doing. I agreed to serve as MoFA under Raven for half the term because he wanted to make use of my diplomatic experience, particularly given the events that occurred in TSP. That worked out well, I think, and I feel the ministry and the current state of our foreign affairs are in a good place to transition to someone else.

2. Had you stayed as Foreign Affairs Minister for the remainder of the term, what accomplishment would you have probably cited as an achievement of your administration by the end of it?
Um, idk. Stopping the tSP coup? :P I didn't really do that as a single-handed accomplishment, though, and like I said sticking around for the whole term was never in the cards. I don't have a good answer to this one.

3. What does Asta bring to the Court that the other challengers do not?
Two things: Past experience and a keen legal mind. Obviously I'm not the only candidate who has served on the court before, but I did draft and revise several court rulings during my tenure - rulings which dealt with some very murky issues and which needed to be written very carefully. My legal expertise comes from my vast exposure to TNP's law, as an author or major contributor to a great number of pieces of legislation, as deputy speaker, as deputy AG, as vice delegate, and as justice. I have a solid grasp of what the law says and means, as well as how it's been interpreted in the past, which makes me a strong asset to any court.

Can I have your office?
Sure! ... if you can manage to get past my turtle fence.

Suppose you and your fellow Court members were all ejected by the Delegate. Would you believe you needed to recuse yourself regarding a request for review of the Delegate's actions? Of charges of Gross Misconduct?

Can one enter into Conspiracy with oneself?

That depends on more specifics about the situation. If we were the only ones ejected, that would make recusal more required, but if we were only three in a wider number of bans, I think the sitting court would still be legitimately able to rule on the question. Similarly, if the delegate were not attempting to defend the legality of their actions (say, if their stance was "Don't care, bye", I think that's less conflictual for the justices than if the delegate were actually contending legality. My reasoning for thinking this way is based around one's ability to be impartial in the situation - I think it's much easier to be impartial if you're not being specifically targeted, even if you're among a group of people affected, and I think there's more call to recuse yourself when you are affected if the defendant is contesting the legal question, rather than ignoring it.

Of course, I would always recuse myself from anything specifically involving me, whether brought individually or jointly with other complaints, and I fully support the right of any justice to recuse themself if they feel it necessary, regardless of the circumstance.

Can one enter into Conspiracy with oneself?
Yes, a single individual can commit conspiracy under our laws. Conspiracy in the Legal Code is defined as "planning, attempting, or helping to commit any crime under this criminal code", and the first two of those can both be done solo.

Allegedly. :fish:

Barbarossistan:
what sort of program for the court, if any, would you seek as Justice?
Broadly speaking, I think the court is in a good position. Most of the reforms I wanted to see during my last stint as justice were accomplished, and I have very few remaining ideas on how to improve things.

However, in terms of smaller, everyday goals, I would strive to ensure that all records were declassified on time, and to address any complaint or question brought to the court in a timely fashion. I would also, as always, continue to keep my eye peeled for tweaks or reforms to the court procedures or other written documents that would improve clarity or help protect our citizens and our government.
