LAMBACK – Dallicania, which had long been indifferent to the crisis in McMasterdonia, has decided to send humanitarian aid to McMasterdonian refugees as the political crisis turned into a severe humanitarian crisis. Prime Minister Liwliwa Matares Makalaya said in a press conference that “Dallicania is, and remains, absolutely neutral in the political crisis in McMasterdonia. However, Dallicania cannot remain neutral in a humanitarian crisis. This is why we decided to intervene on the side of the suffering people, the victims of the situation.”
Hospital ships to be sent
Ms. Matares Makalaya announced the deployment of Dallicania’s two hospital skips
BKD Amihan and
BKD Habagat to Añola and Ravenscrown, respectively, to bring medical aid to McMasterdonian refugees. Defense Minister Magtanggol Katalonga Dimatablan said that the two ships will be leaving on Friday for McMasterdonia.
However, both Ms. Matares Makalaya and Mr. Katalonga Dimatablan quashed suggestions that Dallicania send in peacekeepers on the ground. “That is not under discussion. Dallicania will not intervene in the politico-military crisis. We will be there on the side of the people.”
Legislature approves aid
The Dallicanian Parliament convened last Friday to approve a humanitarian aid package worth ?5 million ($1 million), which will be used to purchase supplies, medications, food, shelters, and construction materials that will be sent with the two hospital ships. The House of Representatives voted 347-0 and the House of Clans voted 280-0 to approve the package. Two cargo ships of the Royal Dallicanian Navy,
BKD Danlagan and
BKD Dagitaban, will be ferrying these supplies later.
Call for Donations
The Dallicanian Red Cross pledged ?1 million ($200,000) and two medical teams for humanitarian aid. The President of the Dallicanian Red Cross, Mayumi Datiles Dimanlig, launched an appeal for the people of Dallicania to contribute to the relief effort. Ms. Datiles Dimanlig appeared on major Dallicanian news networks to ask people to join in the effort. As of this writing, the Dallicanian Red Cross has gathered ?500,000 ($100,000) in two days for the effort. Supplies were also being collected to be sent in
BKD Danlagan and
BKD Dagitaban.
The High Priest of the Central Temple of Bathala, Banal Banoy Makapuri, donated the October collection of the “
Pera mula sa Puso” (“Money from the Heart”) to the relief effort. Several other big Dallicanian companies and corporations announced their intention to contribute.
