State Funeral for Queen Catheryn II
The Karthied Herald, 11 November 2015

Queen Catheryn II will be laid to rest in the Royal Crypt at Rathburg Castle, the royal estate.

The Queen passed away on 25 October following a stroke as she travelled to Cedricstown. Crowds have already begun to gather in Karthied outside Westgarden Abbey, awaiting the Royal procession through the capital's streets to the cities historic south gate. From their the Queen's body will be transported south to the royal estate.

Shortly after 9 am, local time, the funeral party - including Sherwin, the new Duke of Valdonia, the royal family, and a select few special guests - arrived at Westgarden Abbey, where over 500,000 people paid homage to the Queen's body.
The cortege - of foreign royalty, heads of state and the armed forces - began its dignified progress through Karthied at 10:30 as the first of the Dragon's Eye Clock's chimes began.

Dressed in black, the Duke and Duchess of Valdonia, the Royal Patriarch, Princess Amelia, and six year old Princess Silvia were in the first carriage.

They were followed on foot by the Dukes of Eborum, Lamarinthia, and Idjo in dress uniform and the young Prince Irwin in formal mourning wear.

The coffin was draped in the azure, red, and white of the Royal Standard.

The Crown, the Sword of Esplandia, and a wreath of white roses were placed on top, as well as a single daffodil (the Queen's favorite flower) which had been placed there by the Princess Amelia.

The procession reached the south gate green at 11:15 to the refrain of the national anthem and then the royal train left for Rathburg.

Rathburg Castle, royal estate for the de Dracostas, it had been destroyed and rebuilt many times over the course of its existence. It was a compact collection of fortifications clumped together on a hill, overlooking the Clearwater River. Here, buried deep beneath the castle, were the royal crypts. Fifteen of the previous sixteen monarchs were entombed here. Soon their number would grow.

The crypts were not a dark place. They were well lit and well maintained. The rotunda was large enough to hold a crowd of over a thousand. Here the mourners, and those who had come to pay their respects gathered. The coffin would be sealed up within the crypts.

Sherwin circled the room, greeting those who had gathered. He engaged in small talk, but there was little laughter. It was a solemn meeting. As he walked he pushed his brother Stuart in his wheelchair. Despite having muscular distrophy, the elder de Dracosta was every bit the statesmen. Sherwin's councilor shad wondered at the future King's persistence at being the one to help his brother around, but Sherwin knew that it was what his mother would have wanted.

No food was served in the crypts, but their was plenty of wine. The wine was a red, made from grapes grown on the estate and had been put down during the reign of Sherwin's grandfather, Edwin II. Stuart held a bottle a bottle in his lap, and Sherwin would refill the glass of any head of state who stopped to speak with the future king. This was an ancient tradition in Esplandia. A show of humility by the King.

Official Message from the Syrixian Empire
His Magnificence's Government sincerely regrets the news of Queen Catheryn II's passing and would like to offer our deepest condolences. Her Majesty brought Esplandia into the modern age, and was a delight to all those who met her. We are truly fortunate to have lived during her reign over Esplandia, as such an inspirational ruler will likely not be seen again for a long time.

The Queen was benevolent, kind, and most definitely forgiving, pardoning the Empire for the callous and disgusting attack on Esplandian soil perpetrated by Emperor Rajesh the First, and granting the Empire an embassy in Kartheid. We sincerely hope the international community shall never forget her, her kindness, and her legacy. We certainly will not.

Earlier that morning, a message from the High King was sent to the Esplandian Royal Family.

To the esteemed Royal Family of Esplandia::
The death of a monarch is a heavy loss that Vazos knows well. Few High Kings since Unification have ruled longer than a decade. I would like to express my deepest condolences to the Esplandian people.

Although our nations are far from each other, know that my thoughts, as well as those of the Royal Council, are with you. As the ancient prayer says, Sinyorom Noctod gwidi wosin sekurœ wosam eternam ripozod.
