Vazos for Justice!

Vazos

TNPer
Hi there!

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Vazos (formerly known as Zeorus). Although the only office to my name in TNP is as a Deputy Culture Minister, I have a rich history of government service, including Equilism WA Delegate and Chief Minister, multiple Cabinet offices in Balder, and Justice in the Osiris Fraternal Order. I was also the OFO's first Attorney General, and returned to that office as part of Pharaoh Joshua Ravenclaw's Cabinet.

My legislative experience also consists of a long career in the Equilism Senate and multiple terms on the Riksdag of Balder (when it was an elected body). When the OFO was formed, as the first AG I was charged with leading the drafting process of the Criminal Codex, which borrowed from Equilism and KRO criminal laws.

Although I'm a relative newcomer to TNP, I've been a longtime admirer of the legal system here. In fact, after I left Osiris (and NS) last May, I vowed that the only government office I would ever serve in after that would be as a Justice in the North Pacific.

I welcome any and all questions and hope that my credentials speak for themselves.

Much support, of course, but I'd like to know, what do you think of the incumbent Court? I'm not asking for you to insult them, obviously, but what changes do you think they could've made?

Thank you for being willing to stand for one of the most thankless jobs here in TNP.

I have a couple of questions (that I will be posing to all Justice candidates):

1. What is your legal opinion of the last criminal trial held before the Court?
2. What is (at least) one thing from the ruling and/or process that you agree with?
3. What is (at least) one thing from the ruling and/or process that you disagree with?

Thank you.

As I've read through the R4Rs and criminal cases over the previous judicial term, I honestly can't say that there's much I would change. All three incumbent Justices are individuals who command my respect (and, in one case, influenced my approach to my service on the Pschent). I have no complaints with the rulings they have made in the last term.

1. I was, of course, not around for this trial. I have, however, read the case and all pertaining evidence, and concur with Flemingovia's statement in his campaign thread - this was the only recourse. It was, in my opinion, a refreshingly clear-cut case.
2. I agree with the Court's ruling on sections 3.7 and 3.10 of the Adopted Court Rules, as well the decision to move forward with the trial in absence of the defense. Without any power to enforce subpoena in NS, the responsibility for showing up is the sole onus of the prosecution and defense. The Court cannot be held up indefinitely by an absent defendant or counsel.
3. The use of a thread on the forum for depositions. I can see its advantages (easier verification, etc.), but would prefer that depositions be done over IRC or Skype.

Gracius Maximus:
If elected would you seek to change the Court Rules to discount forum depositions?
While it's a change I would support, I'm not sure whether I would actively seek to make such a change. I would, of course, want to hear the opinions of my fellow Justices regarding the matter.
