Remembering the Past to Plot our Future​

The Pax Latina is an OOC organization representing what Imperium Augustum characterizes ICly as the 'culturally Latin sphere'. Translating to the 'Latin Peace', the Pax Latina is used to describe the Imperator's historic responsibility to assist in defending the independence of the nations that secured it through warfare with the Latin League and Imperium - Alainn, Floresque, and New Intelligensia (McMasterdonia) - and through mutually beneficial diplomacy and customary law - the Russian Republic, Kialga-Lourti, and Nierr. In this role, the Imperator recognizes himself as a peer and an equal to these nations, and our mutual interests in material and ontological security. As Imperium Augustum starts to secure itself as an actor on the international stage, through its negotiations with Nierr and Silly String, and through 'Operation Garibaldi' in preparing it to support its ideological and cultural allies McMasterdonia and Floresque, it has seen fit to also prepare itself to formalize its cultural and historic ties to these nations.

This thread is appropriate for discussing issues of OOC relevance to the below 'eligible members' considered to be critical parts of Imperium Augustum's history, culture, and modern identity.

The IC thread is intended for communiques and other articles that are relevant to the Pax Latina, but not worth making a new thread for.

What scope do you see the Pax Latina as having? That is, is it an internal understanding of the status of neighboring nations? An informal agreement and general friendliness on the world stage? A multilateral treaty, or perhaps a collection of unilateral ones?
 
Nierr would look for relaxed economic and migration conditions, specifically with regards to things like work permits/visas.

Outside of that, largest priority would be environmental co-operation because Eden.
 
In general, Floresque will always support greater integration, especially in the region of the world close to it. Greater integration means a larger work force, more ships and planes in and out of the country, etc.
 
The Pax Latina describes, for the time being, the OOC organization to figure out two things in particular: the scope of short-term IC cooperation in the future, and IC historical relationships between our nations.

I made it, in particular, because Silly String, Floresque, Imperium, and McMasterdonia have such interlinked histories (perhaps not from McM's perspective, but certainly from the rest of ours). The extension to Nierr, Kialga-Lourti, and the Russian Republic is a modern extension to account for the fact that the RR is aligned closely with McM's history, and would in theory have been important to our history as a bordering power as would Kialga, and Nierr has significant implications for Imperium's modern foreign policy through the outcome of Remembering Better Days.

For the moment, Imperium is interested ICly in cultural initiatives - for instance, formalized programs to encourage university and high school exchange programs, or a multilateral sporting league that sits between national and international standard sports - and economic development, particularly in infrastructure and transportation. We're also interested in making use of our potential as an investor and participant in tourism within the region, as an extension of key government figures' personal aims.

Atm, my idea was that the Pax Latina would manifest ICly through, say, a number of regulatory supranational bodies to organize multilateral initiatives, like cross-border national parks, education standards, telecommunication standards, and to manage laxer border controls between the Latin states (particularly to liberalize those of Imperium, which currently has some of the harshest controls in the region).

The organization name is, to clarify, Imperium's IC name for the states that form this group.
 
I am interested in this. I have ties to both Floresque and to the Russian Republic. I've been discussing some history with SillyString but we haven't finalised anything yet.

If this becomes more formalised, the Grand Chancellor of New Intelligentsia (the island colony near TGR) will represent the Kingdom's views. The Grand Chancellor is the head of the University there and governs the island.

I was thinking that perhaps the Royal Academy, the University, and the Sacred Mountain Temples could form part of an education deal between signatories? Think government sponsored education, or something like that.
