Salvarity is a Unitary Republic with two sectors of government. The country is divided into a Legislative and Judicial Branch with a minor Executive branch serving under the Legislative. Salvarity is divided into two different provinces, each directly elect a Governor for their state. Each state also gets a designated amount of representatives in the unicameral legislature, called the Salvarian Diet, depending on the population of the region. There are a total of one hundred delegates that are determined by this system, with each state guaranteed a minimum of ten representatives. Representatives serve ten year terms, however ten representative positions go up for elections each year. This is done in order to make accommodations for demographic changes that may occur. There is no term limit for representatives.
The six largest corporations, which are determined by revenue, are guaranteed a spot in the Salvarian Diet. This is in order to protect their own interests. The Merchant Marine and the Navy are also guaranteed a seat each, signifying the importance of the nation’s naval tradition. Finally the Native Salvarian people are guaranteed a representative in the Salvarian Diet.
The Executive Branch of the Salvarian government exists under that of the Legislative, with the political party or coalition that controls sixty of the one hundred and nine seats, as required by the constitution of Salvarity, naming a Prime Minister. Prime Ministers are required to name secretaries of office which handle all major government assets. The Prime Minister serves as Commandant of the National Navy and Head of the National Guard. Ministries under the Prime Minister have been created and destroyed by laws in the past, currently nine ministries are legislated to exist. These are as follows; the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of the Merchant Marine and the Ministry of Commerce. Only acts of the Salvarian Diet may create or destroy ministries.
The Salvarian Judiciary consists of nine representatives, they are elected by popular vote and serve terms of eighteen years. Every two years a single spot is taken up for election. The Salvarian Judiciary is the final interpreters of the laws of the country, they are responsible for determining the legality of laws and may undo any action by the Diet or Prime Minister if determined illegal.
The Budget of Salvarity is dominated by Welfare, Pensions and Education. These public services are central to the popularity and maintenance of the government. Together they make up more than fifty percent of the government budget. Administration takes up eleven percent government, nothing else breaks the mark of ten percent of government budget. Defense is only six percent of the national budget, greatly rampant up in recent years due to insurgency issues.
The Military of Salvarity is divided into two parts. The first being the National Guard, a small force of ten thousand active personnel that is responsible for responding to internal issues. The second being the National Navy. The National Navy is considerably larger, with an active personnel count going up to one hundred and twenty thousand. Of these active personnel, roughly ten thousand are attributed to the Naval Air Force, thirty thousand can be called Naval Marines and the other eighty thousand are active seaman.
The responsibility of the National Guard is to maintain order in areas where the local police forces may not be sufficient. Originally a much smaller force than currently, they have been reorganized and reequipped to deal with domestic insurgencies. They maintain a small air force consisting mostly of helicopters and they have a brown water navy in order to effectively patrol the national waterways. The National Navy is much larger and is meant to protect Salvarity on a global stage. Primarily it is a anti-piracy tool and serves as protection for the Merchant Marine, it does have the potential to wage war in a global scale. The Navy is organized in two battle groups each operating a single carrier and multiple other auxiliary craft to work with the carrier. Due to large naval tradition being present in Salvarity, maintenance and production of naval assets have largely been relegated to the naval conglomerates of the nation. This allows more of the Naval personnel to be active seamen.
Salvarity has access to and does use nuclear energy, it however does not have access to nuclear weaponry.
