The Isles Goes to the Polls!

On the second of July, the British Isles entertained a general election. It was a regularly scheduled election, something the Isles have not seen in a long time and that change was warmly welcomed. The elections saw seven different candidates representing four parties and one Independent vying for the five spots in the House of Commons.

John Norfolk (Green) 12
Renly (Independent) 12
Francis (Green) 10
Klaus Mikaelson (LOVEMUFFIN) 8
Valfor Talleyrand (Green) 8

Cameron M. Ó'Neill (Labour) 7
Stephen Witcheson (Social Democrat) 5

The Green Party ran three different candidates as per their official policy, Francis Hanover and John Norfolk returning and Valfor Talleyrand arriving onto the scene. They were expected to come out strong and attain a majority and they did exactly that. John Norfolk, the Party Leader of the Greens, was confirmed as Prime Minister of the British Isles shortly after. The other two positions were grabbed by Klaus Mikaelson representing, LOVEMUFFIN, a fringe political party of which he is the only member. Renly comes in as the fifth and final member. He ran as an Independent. Stephen Witcheson and Cameron O'Neill representing Social Democratic and Labour parties respectively did not gain a position in the House of Commons. The Greens attained a majority and no official opposition exists. In a surprise move however, the Greens did not take the position of speaker and instead confidence was placed in Renly to officiate that position.

Appointments for Everyone!

On the sixth of June, King Daniel I appointed three new judges to the Supreme Court of the British Isles. Jone Norfolk was appointed as the Chief Justice. Francis Hanover and Renly joined him as Associate Justices. This was following over a month where the British Isles judiciary was sitting void of judges, and after a defeated referendum by John Norfolk and the Greens to reform the courts.

On the fourth of July returning Prime Minister John Norfolk announced his new cabinet. He has chosen to appoint Valfor Talleyrand as his Deputy Prime Minister. He has appointed HH Richard as his Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Cephal Talleyrand as his Secretary of Defense and Juris Lancaster as the Secretary of the Home Office. The Culture Office saw its appointments on the eight and ninth of July. Stephen Witcheson was appointed as Director General of the BBC by the Prime Minister on the eight, the ninth saw the Prime Minister appointing Renly as the Secretary of Culture. Renly immediately set to work and gave appointments to Cameron O'Neill, Ander Blakewood and Crushita Ananas for Minister without Portfolio, Minister for Creative Industries and Minister for Culture respectively.

The sixth of July saw King Daniel I appointing the House of Lords. HH Richard and Daniel Devon returned to the House of Lords as Duke of Northumberland and Viscount of Devon respectively; they are the only returning members of the House of Lords. Liana Soloviev moved from the House of Commons to the House of Lords with her appointment as Baroness Ravenscar. Stephen Witcheson and Cameron O'Neill, the two general election candidates who did not gain a House of Commons spot in the last general election, were surprisingly appointed as Lords of Parliament.

Congress of Sovereigns!

On the second of July, King Daniel has given his assent to the Treaty of Imperial Fellowship which confirms the ascension of the British Isles to the Congress of Sovereigns. The British Isles joins The United Kingdom, Kingdom of Great Britain and The Land of King and Emperors as the first non original signatory region. Entrance to the Congress of Sovereigns was a primary objective of the Norfolk premiership and it was with pride that he announced the Isles entrance. Immediately after the announcement, the British Isles sought to strengthen its relations with other congress members. The John Norfolk premiership sought to start a cross-regional conference with the United Kingdom, however elections in both regions grinded the conference to a halt.

All Opposition Collapses!

In recent times the British Isles has seen an absolute collapse in opposition parties. The Green Party has maintained a majority in all elections since its foundation with all the candidates that ran from the party being elected. No other party since has managed to gain more than one seat. A staggering six parties have since come and gone. The Scottish Nationalist Party, the Whig Party, the Labour Party, the Social Democratic Party, the Tory Party and Sinn Fein were all around during the Green Party's rise to prominence, but no longer exist. The only other political party currently in the House of Commons (LOVEMUFFIN) is not even an officially registered political entity within the Isles.
