Malvad for Delegate

Hello everyone! Security Councillor Malvad here, announcing my candidacy for Delegate of The North Pacific.

For those of you who do not know me or know very little about me here is my history. I have been a member of NationStates for three years and I joined TNP on the same day. I was not very active in my first year, restricting myself to voting in the RA, participating a bit in RP, and focusing on my nation in-game. I was part of the NPA for a short time but left after a few months. In my second year I began to learn more about TNP and participate more in RP. In my third year I expressed my interest in serving in the Culture Ministry to Olvern (Lord Nwahs). He enjoyed my enthusiasm and made me his deputy minister. I also rejoined the NPA and became ambassador to British Isles, Canada, and The Land of Kings and Emperors. I ran in the Speaker election last September but later put my support behind Lord Nwahs. Lord Nwahs offered to make me his Deputy Speaker and r3n offered me Minister of Culture. I chose to become the new Minister of Culture and oversaw many programs and events. In January McMasterdonia made me Minister of Education. I tried to implement McM's plans but this collapsed after he resigned. I attempted to put programs into effect but I had issues due to RL time constraints. I later resigned for the good of the ministry. My time constraints are thankfully clearing up and I look forward to a successful summer in TNP.

Now for the platform.

Home Affairs
The Home Affairs Ministry has been very successful since it was created by r3n. I hope to see continued success in recruitment and mentoring as we go into the more active summer months. I want the focus to be on continuing to bring the game-side and forum-side communities closer together and bringing more people to the forum.

Foreign Affairs
The North Pacific continues to be a dominant region in NationStates. I hope to continue expanding our relations with our current allies and friendly regions and creating new relationships with other regions. I want our ambassadors to be properly trained and prepared to serve as representatives of our region. They will file reports on a consistent basis and work together to fix any issue or improve relations.

Defense
We have one of the most powerful and active military forces in NationStates. The NPA has been very successful on its own and working with our allies. I want to see continued growth among our military and continued cooperation with our allies to benefit our interests across NationStates. I want our army to have to be well trained and experienced in both raiding and defending.

Communications
I personally have no experience in the communication ministry. I applaud the success of The Northern Lights but I do want to see it published more often, if at all possible. I know that it takes time to create an issue, but I would like to see monthly publications in the future.

Culture
It has never been a better time for TNP culture. Our RP has been very active in recent months and I congratulate McM, Scandigrad, and Lord Lore on their work to expand our RP section and improve our culture. I do want to see more events from the ministry in the next term and I hope we can organize an event with another region. I look forward to continued activity in RP and expansion in our culture.

Education
The Education Ministry has not exactly lived up to what McM wanted it to be and I will take the blame for that. In the next term I do want to push for reaching the full potential of what the university can offer. I want organized classes and lectures to be a norm of TNP and I want our university to thrive and be just as active as the RP forum.

WA Affairs
The North Pacific has the largest vote in the WA and therefore the most influence. I believe it is imperative that we increase activity in the WALL and work with our partners on expanding knowledge about new proposals. As the largest force in the WA we must continue to inform our voters on the proposals we are working on and encourage voting in the WA and on the votes on the forum.

Vice Delegate
Although I am willing to work with whoever is elected Vice Delegate, I would like to announce that I will be endorsing Bootsie for Vice Delegate. The campaign process will be short but we will be campaigning together. So vote Bootsie!

I look forward to a great election and I hope that everyone participates. This is a great time to be a member of TNP and I know the next four months will be very successful, no matter who is elected. Thank you all and remember to vote Bootise and vote Malvad!

And as always, questions are welcome.

Malvad, I have a few questions for you.
What one thing differentiates or will differentiate you from the other candidates for Delegate?
What's the first thing you'd do if elected?
Name the one project or initiative that you would keep most similar to what it is currently, if any, and why.
Name one project of initiative that you would introduce, reintroduce, dramatically change, or discontinue, if any, and why.

From your OP I read lots of words but gained very little impression of what you believe in or what you think. Can you tell me what you are standing for? Be brief but be passionate. At the moment you read like a civil service briefing paper on the reduction of dependence on imported beef derivatives.

What differentiates me from the other candidates is where I get my experience from. My experience in the executive has been mainly in the culture area of TNP and I think that makes me an unusual candidate. Delegate candidates tend to be associated with other ministries such as defense, foreign affairs, or in Tomb's case home affairs.
Besides taking my oath, upon being elected I would start implementing plans to get the university up and running.
I would keep our current defense plans most similar to the status quo. Our military has maintained high success and if it isn't broken, don't fix it.
I would reintroduce or restart the plans for the education ministry set out by McMasterdonia. This is personal for me as I do feel I failed a bit here. Even if I am not elected I do want to work to help the education ministry expand.

plembobria:
What will you do differently from Tomb?
I want to start by saying that I believe Tomb has done great work as our delegate in only half a term. I would however be handling the culture ministry very differently. While I do stand by the delegate's right to create policy for their ministries, I do believe that culture is often a different animal. As a former culture minister I know that the ministry is heavily reliant on getting ideas from community members. I do believe that at least part of the policy that Lord Lore attempted to implement is worth a go.

As long as I have been in NS I have resided in TNP. I've never left it and it is to this day the only region I have managed to stay active in. This region means something to me. The community is so vibrant and inviting. All I have ever wanted to be is a contributing and important member of this great community. That is why I am standing for delegate. I want to improve upon our already amazing culture and community. I believe in the importance of each member of this community and I want everyone to feel the benefit of being a member. I want to be someone who makes our community better when it is already so great. I know this is vague and might not seem very passionate but I do love this region and I want to see it continuously flourish. I hope I have answered your question in some way Flem. If not just tell me and I'll try to say more.

Thank you and I hope I have answered all of your questions.

Great. Thanks. Follow-up question: Why is a background in culture better than the conventional backgrounds for Delegate candidates, such as Tomb's experience in Home Affairs, or the conventional former Ministers of Defense or Foreign Affairs?

I wouldn't say that it is any better to have a culture background. But it is something different from the norm. It doesn't specifically make me better but it does make me a more interesting choice.

I think you're a good candidate, Malvad. Just one question, though:
you resigned as Minister of Education due to your being very busy in RL; have these RL issues cleared up some? In other words, will you have time to devote to TNP?

My time constraints have cleared up. I will have plenty of time to devote to TNP.

Thank you for your quick reply. :D

A few questions:

What will be the position of The North Pacific toward the New Pacific Order (The Pacific) if you're elected?

What are your thoughts on the current situation in Balder, with democratic government being unilaterally dissolved by the Delegate, at least temporarily?

What is your position on the World Assembly Legislative League (WALL)? Is it working? How could it be improved? Should it be entirely scrapped?

Thanks, and best of luck!

The recent actions of the New Pacific Order in Lazarus are unacceptable. If I am elected, The North Pacific will not maintain diplomatic relations with The Pacific. Their actions have consequences and the NPO deserves to be punished.
I have not followed the situation in Balder closely, however from what I have heard it does have the support from some of the community. I have also been led to understand that the dissolution was not specifically illegal but more controversial. As Balder is our ally it is important that The North Pacific monitors the situation and handles it delicately.
The WALL is an interesting organization. I enjoy the idea of trying to create an inter-regional bloc in the WA. However it has not appeared to me to be very successful. From what I can tell the proposal section has not been active since February. The only recent activity has been through the WA classes. I do not think it needs to be scrapped but I do believe significant work needs to be done to improve activity and success.

Thank you for the questions and I hope I have answered them well. If you require more information you need only ask.

Thanks for your answers!

Do you believe the NPAF should be required to disclose operations to the Regional Assembly while they are ongoing, provided reasonable exceptions are made for classification of sensitive operations, or do you believe disclosure after an operation is sufficient?
