LITTLE GENIUS

No sooner had Richard's car stopped and one of the Guards approached to open the door than Abigail Junior had leapt out the car. She burst through the front doors of the Palace, "Where's Great Aunt?" she asked the woman manning the front desk. Before she could answer the teenage girl spotted the Queen's personal secretary walking down the corridor and hurtled off in pursuit before any answer came back.

"Robert, have you seen my Great Aunt?" she bounced to a halt alongside him almost making him drop his folder of papers.

"She was in the Music Room a moment ago with a group of politicians, but..." it was too late the flame haired girl had headed off again taking the steps up the the 2nd floor two at a time. She twisted past two of the Palace maids carrying linen tableclothes, the two smiled as she continued pounding down the long corridor, everyone knew what this meant. As the two maids made their way down to the kitchen they gave the Head of the Royal Kitchen a quick heads up.

Finally Abigail Junior reached the music room, without knocking she flung the two large oak doors open, "Great Aunt" she panted as she spotted the Queen sat with two suited gentlemen, clearly finishing up some talks. One had almost jumped out of his seat as the teenager appeared through the door.

"Hello darling" the Queen stood and walked over to her out of breath Great Niece and kissed her on the forehead, "I assume this is the test?" the Queen took the piece of paper from her hand.

"Yes....I got a A+....second in the class." Abigail Junior was still getting her breath back as the Queen carefully examined the test paper.

"Very well done. That's much better than that C last month" the Queen hugged her much beloved namesake. "Minister Grey" she turned to her guests, "Mister Jacobson, you must forgive me, just we've been working very hard for this test haven't we. I believe our meeting was done, so please forgive my rather quick exit I promise you I'll give it a great deal of thought." She took Abigail Junior by the hand and headed for the door leaving the two members of the government to find their own way out. "So Abbie, who beat you?" the Queen asked intrigued, 87/90 was an excellent score.

"That girl Mary, she's like some kind of super nerd." Abbie replied as they strolled back the way she had come. They found her father at the end of the corridor.

"Good afternoon Aunt" Richard said bowing formally, while his daughter may get away with things he knew he would be expected to be more in check with protocol. "I see you found my rampaging daughter." he ruffled his daughter's flame coloured hair. "She literally had me break every speed limit to get here, she couldn't wait to tell you."

"Well I'm delighted, another physicist in the family is excellent news." The Queen held science dear, especially Physics and to have heard her Grand Niece was not up to scratch had upset her, she wanted all of her family to be well educated, and had spent hours sitting with young Abbie tutoring her. The Queen treated her Grand Niece more like a grand-daughter and everyone knew Abbie could get away with practically anything. "I believe Abbie you should go and tell Jane we're on our way. Will you be joining us Richard?"

"I'd be delighted." As Abbie skipped off towards the Palace kitchen her father offered his arm to his Aunt and the pair strolled through the corridors as a more sedate pace.

A floor down Abbie ran into the kitchen. "Miss Henry" she yelled as she walked into the busy scene of the kitchen staff preparing evening meals for those staff who resided in the Palace. The kitchen manager heard her name and wiping her hands on the ever present towel that hung around her waist.

"Oh hello Miss" she said glancing at the youngster, "Am I to assume you aced that test." she asked with a smile, it was common to have the Queen bring the family down to celebrate important milestones, the test had been highly discussed and the Queen had been visibly nervous that morning.

"Yeah, A+.....can we have three lots of cake and ice cream please." Abbie asked politely.

"We've a lovely double fudge cake and I'll get the ice cream out." They'd prepared the juniors favourite cake just in case. The Queen and her nephew entered and the activity in the kitchen stopped as everyone bowed or curtsied, the Queen thanked them for the respect before taking a seat on the bench on the chef's table, the sweet treats placed before them. The family spent the afternoon scoffing Abbie's reward and sharing quality time.

"Great Aunt" Abbie said as she licked her spoon clean after a second helping, "Do you think you can help me beat the super nerd?" she asked.

"Abbie, you shouldn't call people things like that." her father scolded.

"Oh Richard, nothing wrong with some competitive spirit. Of course we'll beat her next time Abbie, bring your books tomorrow and we'll get things started."

"But Aunt, you have that meeting with the Ministry of Health tomorrow." Her nephew reminded her.

"I'll cut it short, nothing is more important than family, and nothing matters more than them getting a good education when their young."

This is so adorable! It's like those children's stories we all read when we were young. You should adapt this into a collection of factbooks someday. It would definitely be distributed across Syrixia for all children to read!

(OOC - Thanks for the feedback Syrixia. I just like writing and haven't had too much oppurtunity to get Morheim involved in much RP so figured I'll just write some short stories until that comes along)

A TALE OF TWO PRINCESSES

In her personal apartment within the Palace Crown Princess Rachel was being attended by a small army of servants, some teased at her hair, one was working on her make up while several others laid out row upon row of ball gowns, tiara's and shoes.

Meanwhile two doors down her younger sister Princess Grace was attended by just Sarah, more of a friend than a servant. "Your Highness you can't wear those to a ball." she said placing the multi-coloured training shoes back into the bottom of a cupboard.

"Sarah if I'm being made to attend such a pompous event I'm going to be comfortable, no way am I getting blisters from wearing a pair of those monstrosaties." she said gesturing to several boxes of finely made shoes that had been sent to the Palace. "Hell, if I could get away with it I'd be wearing my Doc Martins. I just somehow don't think the gentlemen who appreciate that."

Sarah burst out laughing, Grace was one of the least elegant dancers Sarah had ever seen, she had a mental image of Grace in thick heavy soled boots stamping all over the feet of her dance partners. Grace too burst out laughing and the pair fell about as Grace began play acting out the scene they both now imagined before collapsing on the bed, "I really can't stand balls." Grace said as she lay looking at the intricately decorated ceiling.

"I know" Sarah said as she picked up a pair of flat shoes she thought might be a compromise, although finding such things with Grace was always tough, they'd had many a fall out growing up and going to school together, even now as Sarah served as a lady in waiting the two often would argue, only to be best friends again seconds later. "What about these?" Sarah asked more in hope than expectation.

"I guess they'll do." Grace said taking them and trying them on.

It was much easier for Rachel's servants, the Princess was far more compliant, far more willing to do what was expected, in fact Rachel enjoyed the attention. The ball would be right up her street, people focusing on her, men desperately trying to grab the single ladies attention in high hopes of being the man who would win her heart. Rachel played the role to perfection, always polite, courteous but slightly aloof from the would be suitors, after all if tradition was anything to go by, and in Morheim's royal family it was, she would end up attached to a person of her mother's choosing.

Finally after hours of preening and pampering the two Princesses were ready. Grace had choosen a simple white gown with a golden coloured belt, her hair piled high on her head, Sarah believed it suited her better. Meanwhile Rachel had, after several changes, chosen a pale green dress embroided with delicate silken threads of gold that seemed to make the dress dance even when she was stood still. The pair made their way down to the royal lounge where the rest of the family was gathering. The Queen looked resplendent in her black dress with gold adorning her neck.

"You two look radiant. Don't they dear?" she said turning to her husband Duke Gerhard.

"Indeed you do, you two get more beautiful day by day." he said proudly as he crossed to kiss each on the cheek. "Rachel, you'll be pleased to know that dashing Major Turnpike is here, he has already asked me to send you his compliments and he asks if he may have a dance."

Rachel smiled, Patrick Turnpike was a raising star in the military, known as a great tactician and brave soldier he had tried to catch her eye at last years military parade for her mother's birthday. While she found him handsome enough she wasn't sure she wanted to marry a soldier. Grace on the other hand was yet to recieve any compliments or requests, it was always the way, "why settle for 2nd best" she muttered to herself, people always seemed to favour Rachel just because she happened to have been born four years earlier.

"It's time Your Majesty" the Royal Chamberlain announced as he threw open the large wooden doors and turned to escort the royal family to the ball room. Two footman pushed open the main ballroom door as the fanfare was played, the orchestra stopped and stood as the Queen made her entrance escorted by her husband dressed in a smart evening suit. The two sisters followed close behind with their younger brother bringing up the rear.

As the family began to mingle it didn't take Major Turnpike long to find Rachel. "Your Highness" he said bowing deeply. "May I just say your looking more beautiful than last time I saw you." He looked very handsome, the dark blue jacket of his regiment and polished gold braid making an impressive sight. "I was wondering if you would do me the highest honour of dancing with me?" Grace made the imitation of someone being sick to Sarah who giggled, Rachel shot them both a disapproving look.

"Major it would be my pleasure" Rachel said accepting the outstretched had of the army officer and making her way out onto the dancefloor, many clapped as she did so clearing a space for her. The crowd watched as she elegantly strutted her stuff on the dance floor, meanwhile Grace turned to Sarah.

"Lets find the bar and get squiffy" she said putting an arm around her childhood friends shoulders and making a route away from the pageantry she found so pretentious.
