Bit late opening the OOC thread, but I would like to explain my new presence in your RP community and invite people to join.
My name is Myroria; I'm a Taijituan and a long-time writer in that region's RP community, which we prefer to call "Taijitu Worldbuilding". Some examples of my pieces there, if anyone cares to read, can be found here and here.
I came to TNP to write because I heard from Eluvatar that some interesting things were going on here. Here I won't be writing as my normal nation of Myroria, as I do in Taijitu, instead I will be writing as the Floregasque Republic, a small city-state centered on the city of Floresque.
The idea behind the nation is essentially "What if the Florentine Republic survived as an oligarchy into the modern era?". Lots is designed to be an introduction to the nation and its culture, as well as an exploration of the nature of reform. Alessandro de' Avelocci takes power in the early 21st century as the latest in a long like of oligarchs who were given their posts as the head of the Republic mainly due to family connections. His predecessor enacted several reforms designed to lessen restrictions on free speech and press, and now Alessandro has to deal with the repercussions of those reforms - an angry populace becoming aware of the oppression they live under. Much as Perestroika and could be argued to have brought about the fall of the Soviet Union, the Floregasque Reforms now threaten the existence of the long-standing dynasty of the Avelocci family.
At the start of the RP, Alessandro de' Avelocci narrowly avoids an assassin's bullet at his inauguration as gonfaloniere, or leader, of the Republic. He will struggle with forces both internal and external as he decides whether to continue his predecessor's efforts at reform, or clamp back down to hold onto his own power.
This piece is open to anyone else who would like to participate, and I invite everyone to have their own nation take a stance on the issues unfolding in Floresque and decide whether to support the stability of the current government at the expense of an open democracy, or an open democracy at the expense of the stability of the current government.
If anyone has any questions about the piece or how to participate in it, please feel free to ask me, or give me constructive criticism! I'm sure things go a lot differently here than in Taijitu and this is a learning experience for me. I hope I can fit in here and contribute to your RP community!
