General Assembly for the Drafting of a Constitution opens
Opening statements are made before the Ecclesia.
Following rapid regional growth since the Glorious Revolution began in August, the Ecclesia has organized a convention to draft an official constitution to enshrine the ideals of the Revolution in law.
After the dissolution of the Sovereign Dixie government in August, the old Constitution of Taijitu written in June 2014 was also scrapped, and the new direct democracy worked instead based on a collection of laws called the "Standing Ordinances". The laws, while effective, were simple and many questions about the functioning of the government emerged. Rather than wait for a crisis to emerge, the Ecclesia opted instead to hold a convention to address these questions.
Issues that the people of Taijitu hope to resolve include:
The existence of a court system. Is a judiciary needed? What should any official court resemble? Should it be separate from the Ecclesia?
The role of the delegacy. Presently the citizen-delegate holds no real legal power in the government, and the office only exists to keep the delegacy in-game in trusted hands. But should the powers of the delegate be expanded into a real executive branch?
The future of the Ecclesia. As Taijitu grows, will it be able to remain a direct democracy, or should the region transition to a representative model of democracy - or something else entirely?
Other questions will surely be discovered as the convention progresses. The General Assembly for the Drafting of a Constitution is open to all Taijituan citizens, and contributions are welcome.
The Rejected Realms - Taijitu Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation ratified
The assembled members of the Ecclesia spontaneously salute the announcement of the Treaty's ratification.
The Rejected Realms and Taijitu officially entered into a treaty of mutual friendship, defense, and cooperation last week as the document was approved by The Rejected Realm's Assembly, having already sailed 8-2 through the Ecclesia.
The treaty may come as a surprise to some players who recall that in 2007 the Realms were invaded and couped by Red Kagran, a prominent Taijituan. The new treaty will likely be seen by both sides as a resolution to any hard feelings left over from the kerfluffle.
The treaty was worked out in mid to late September by Citizen-Initiator Myroria and Citizen-Diplomat Of the US representing Taijitu and Delegate Unibot and Foreign Minister representing The Rejected Realms. Motivated by similar goals at the Regional Sovereignty Conference 2014 in Lazarus, an agreement on the treaty's contents was quickly reached and put before each region's legislature - The Realms' Assembly and Taijitu's Ecclesia, where it passed each congress handily.
The people of Taijitu hope the treaty ensures a long and fruitful friendship between our two regions, and encourage Citizen-Augur St. Oz to look to the birds for good omens in the days ahead.
Dyr Nasad elected to office of Citizen-Sergeant in tight vote
Dyr Nasad leans on a pillar as the final votes are tallied outside the Ecclesia hall.
Two controversial elections this month established Taijitu's first professional army since the Glorious Revolution and elected a Citizen-Sergeant to lead the new force.
On October 1, after a fierce week-long debate, the Citizens' Militia of Taijitu was established to defend the region's interest at home and abroad. Those pressing for the creation of a military argued for its necessity to safeguard the region at home and her interests abroad; those opposed raised concerns of the Militia threatening the Revolution's "gameplay second" policies. After a three-day vote, the proposed bill was passed 5-4.
The bill creates an all-volunteer force with wide oversight by the Ecclesia, Taijitu's legislature. It also creates the office of "citizen-sergeant" to lead the new army; after another close vote, Dyr Nasad was chosen to take the office. He was opposed by St Oz; the Oz ticket was supported mainly by those opposed to the creation of the militia, due to a campaign promise that he would do nothing more than the law required.
After a three-day vote, Dyr Nasad won the election 7-5. Any plan to use the Militia abroad, or even whether such a plan exists at all, has not been made public.
