EDWARD IX ABDICATES
Just shy of his one year anniversary on the throne HM Edward IX Abdicated citing real life work opportunities and the rebuilding of the forum as primary reasons.
His Majesty in his announcement of abdication indicates a willingness to remain in the region as a participant and has adopted for himself, Lord Haldane.[c]HM Edward IX; 6/4/14:I am soon to start a full-time Job that I had always hoped and dreamed I would get. It has been a gruelling and mentally horrid recruitment process experience, but I have come out the other end just about intact and have been offered a position... With the new forums, I believe there should be a new and fresh Head of State to suit the changing times, and one who has so dedicated himself to preserving the massive gains we have made in our nation count.

In our last foreign update, you would have seen that our region had been overcoming some obstacles, namely an off-site forum transfer. The forum transfer is complete, and it went off without a hitch. We have an active populace, a steady growing rate of citizens and foreign diplomats, plus government initiatives have been able to commence after this tremendous regional effort. United Kingdom has proven itself once again to be a strong community filled with determined members; I’m proud to be its Prime Minister. I hope your region has further prospered, and that you all stay safe and continue to enjoy the warm embrace of NationStates!
Kind regards,
Sir Andrew B. Fraser, Prime Minister and Member for Northern England.

Several bills have also gone through Parliament. A bill regarding the updating of the Masters list, a list of active members of the region and their basic details, has been tabled. Meanwhile, a bill regarding the regional chat room and a bill regarding the establishment of a formal system for creating a regional holiday are also currently passing through parliament.
Of course, those who keep regular updates on the region will know that we have a general election coming up, which will determine the makeup of the next parliament. With around 2 weeks to go, things are only beginning to spice up, although the major parties, including the ruling British Centrist Party, are currently in the middle of a nomination process. The victors of this election, in addition to the two Lords to be appointed by the King, shall make up the 31st Parliament since our regions creation.
