This is the fifth question of the debate. This question was asked by James. The same rules apply.

As quite a new citizen to TNP, but perhaps not NS as a whole, what is the candidate's opinion on introducing some form of an economy, if a feasible system was coded and could be introduced? Would the candidate prefer to focus on other policies during their term, and leave such an idea for the future? Or would the candidate be willing to divert some attention for such a possibility?

I am generally wary of regional economies, because in the majority of cases they turn out to be unsustainable, and either collapse or just fall into disuse. There are some notable exceptions to this rule, for example Lazarus I believe has an active economy system.

If members come forward with a solid proposal for an economy system, the Ministry of Culture will definitely consider it. Whether it will actually be adopted will depend on its feasibility. If a proposal does get adopted, then it will serve as an excellent project for the Ministry of Culture part of the Executive Staff.

Without such a proposal, I would say that it is unlikely the Ministry will on its own pursue an economy system.

If a feasible system could be coded, an 'economy' might be a fun thing to try. If it worked, it could be expanded to include other regions. I could see some kind of 'stock market' in which 'stock' could be 'bought and sold' but it might be too complex to work out on even a small scale simulation.

I would prefer to focus, though, on the real meat and potatoes of being Delegate, but if someone wanted to come up with a scheme for an economic system for TNP, I'd tell them to have at it. It might add some fun to RPing if a good scheme could be arrived at. As Delegate, though, the creation of such a system would be beyond the scope of the job of the Delegate. I might consider diverting some attention to it if someone skilled enough in coding could simulate something like that.

As a passing thought, we could tie it to the real stock market. Have people start with a given sum of 'money' and allow them to 'buy' stocks, sell them, trade them, etc., and whether they gain or lose is tied to actual stocks on the market. I mean, after all, there is a company that uses the stock symbol TNP for their company (it opened at $6.91, high of $7.10 and closed at $6.99 after closing bell). :P

It would be an interesting simulation to try using a stock feed to determine what happens to one's investments (there are plenty of market simulation programs already out there free for the taking. I like free).

I can't say I'd considered a regional economy nor do I intend to try and advocate for the introduction of one. That said, if someone has something particularly in mind that they want to try, I would certainly be open to looking into it.

I would want there to be lengthy consultation before anything was introduced, however and it is not something I will be investigating as a personal initiative during my term.
