[Private] Court Business on the list

Romanoffia

Garde à l'eau!
Welcome to the Court SS and Ator! Congratulations!

First order of business, we need to select a Chief Justice for this session of the Court.

We've got a lot of cobwebs to clear out now that we have a full slate of Justices. :P

Well, any of us is qualified to be Chief Justice (it's not that difficult of a job, largely administrative for the most part). What it takes is to attend to all the business that comes up and deal with it as soon as possible.

At any rate, I know all the crap that needs to get out of the way and how to proceed because I've been there now for what will be 2 1/2 terms (more than that if one includes previous terms way back in antiquity, so, I'd like to throw my hat in the ring to be Chief Justice this go around.

We have a good slate of Justices this time so we should be able to clear out all the outstanding crap that's been hanging around and keep things moving in the court. My idea is to get the Court running at full capacity so we don't end up with any back-log. It's as simple as coming up with a schedule of what needs to be done (which I've already prepared), what order it needs to be done, and how to distribute the work load so that everything can be done at a casual pace (which actually in short order will go a lot faster than it has ever gone in the past).

There's a couple of cases hanging around, one of which requires an official 'clarification' of a point of law dealing with 'Fraud' that Kiwi requested which I wrote up a month or more ago, but couldn't get either Flem or Leekem to get their shit together on it to get it OKed. As CJ, I can get the prepared opinion out ASAP and we can clear out at least one case in short order. :P

Just for what it's worth, I'd like for me and Ator to have a chance to review what's been written for the Fraud case before it's published.

Can we perhaps set up a time to chat over IRC about the topic?

Good idea. We need to set up a good time for all of us to chat on IRC since we seem to be on line at about the same times. What time is good for everyone. I'm usually free any time after about 6:00 PM EDT (which is GMT +5).

Here's the link to the draught of the clarification. http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/single/?p=8127194&t=7141068.

It's a bit technical but it does narrow down 'fraud' to actually be fraud, and it will prevent everyone and his brother from including slander and libel as fraud.

Given that Roman votes for Roman and you vote for Roman, that seems pretty well decided. :P

I'm free basically anyday, anytime.

I always vote for me. Funny how that happens.

OK, so we can make that announcement in the next day or so. :P

That, and indeed the first order of things is to go through the complaint docket and get a list of all the unreconciled matters and get them out of the way ASAP. And just think we will probably have for the first time in TNP history, all three judges and maybe a THO all busy at one time! Oh, crap. :P

At any rate, almost any time is good for me on IRC.

Looks like we have three outstanding requests for review. In order of receipt:

1) RoR about Fraud, filed January 5. This we should be able to get out relatively quickly, once we can set up a time to meet on IRC.

2) RoR about FOIA, filed January 5. I do not believe it is necessary to recuse myself from this case, even though I filed a brief as a citizen, but I would rather not draft the decision myself. I'm happy to look over and edit any suggested draft from either of you, though (assuming you're both in agreement - I remember we debated it a bit when it came up, Ator).

3) RoR about Douria, filed January 28. Also important to get out as soon as we can, and once we can discuss the legalities I'd be willing to write this one.

I don't think we need to go through the complaint docket though. That's the AG's job, whenever they're elected.

Edit: I DO think we need to hop on fixing the court rules, though, ASAP.

Agreed on all points.

Let's set up an IRC court conference for the next day or so. I'm in the eastern time zone of the US (GMT + 5) so if we can get something after 6 PM my time tomorrow or Wednesday, that would be great. Or let me know when in the next 48 hours as to what would be a good time.

As per court rules, we need to simplify the procedure and get that issue nailed down ASAP (which I think should be easy to do considering we have an outstanding slate on this court this time around).
