Reginald Carmichael and r3naissanc3r have agreed to serve as Election Commissioners for the General Elections for Delegate, Vice Delegate and Speaker starting January 1st.

I would like to volunteer myself as an election commissioner for the next elections that don't have election commissioners already.

Democratic Donkeys:
Guy? Who the $@#! is Guy?

Seriously, why are we trusting someone who is that new with our elections?

Well it is a shared position, so SillyString and Guy will both have access to the Voting Booth and will together be responsible for the results.

Sorry Bootsie I had forgotten that you had volunteered before. If you are interested in serving for this election I could appoint you as well. We have had three EC's for General elections in the past.

I would like to be appointed as an Election Commissioner for this election, thanks!

Tyler Kazakov:
Why am I never asked to be election Commisioner?

I get the feeling that if you were the only person in TNP willing, they would recruit someone from outside to join the forums to do it, and if they couldn't do that they'd quickly legislate to abolish election commisioners, rather than you do it.

I'm kidding!:P

Woa that was just a wee bit uncalled for DD. All the election commissioners will check the results so it makes little difference.

Looking forward to more elections :)

Was it? I believe I can question the fact that a member with 10 posts (most of them unrelated to government topics) is suddenly given the trusted position of counting votes in our elections. I have no problem with new members participating, but I would expect the new member to be someone who has at least made themselves somewhat known and trusted around here before I gave them the keys to the voting booth. I doubt that I am the only person who reacted as I did when they saw the initial announcement; the difference being that I am unafraid of being called into question over posting my reaction.

I am happy with Bootahilley01 and SillyString, I am still not satisfied with Guy, who has remained quiet on this issue despite being active on the board today. Luckily, this seemingly new person has people to jump to their defense for them. :)

I must admit I am pretty much with dd on this one. It could be I am missing something and that guy is known to the powers-that-be from another region?

I cannot remember another occasion when someone with just ten posts has been appointed an election commissioner.

Sorry if I was unclear. Perhaps I'm getting old but I just thought the tone was a bit unnecessary. It could just be that I'm less familiar with DD's particular brand of satire :P

We want to welcome new people, not chase them away. The concern was valid... but perhaps could have been better conveyed. If that makes sense? :)

Just my 2 cents! :2c:

We do have a Guy- a guy by the name Guy- in the FRA, where he is currently the Minister of Intelligence with a good history in government. Not sure if the same one but I'd vouch for him if he is.

This is a rather truthful view on what would happen Tyler. :)

/edit - Also McMasterdonia, I wouldn't have minded helping out if you needed someone :P

Pssst, everyone.

Guy is one of mcmasterdonia's well-known alter-egos, along with Wordy, Biyah, and Max Barry. No need to panic!

Sorry for not responding to this earlier - I've been on the road, so haven't had so much time the last few days.

I've been around NS for a few years now. I've been the Delegate of both 10ki and, more recently, TRR. I'm also, as you've heard, McM.

Any other questions you have about me, just ask :)

Umm yes he can. ECs don't need to be RA members, or even citizens.

5. "Election Commissioner" is an individual designated to supervise a given election. No Election Commissioner may run in the election they are overseeing.

:)

Someone who is neither a citizen or a member of the regional assembly should not be serving as our election commissioner in my opinion. If there is not another volunteer to serve as EC, I will leave the two EC's to take care of the election.

On the face of it, election commissioners appear to government officials, and thus non-RA members would be ineligible to serve. Don't consider this a legal opinion of course - I haven't considered the matter in any detail.

It appears DD's concerns were warranted. Let's try picking people who have, I don't know, voted before as election commissioners.

I personally think that SillyString and I should be the two election commissioners. We already work well together, since we are both Deputy Speakers, and compliment each other well.

Okay because of this ruling: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/pages/laws/#.idx_28

I am forced to remove SillyString and Bootahilley 01 as election commissioners, and I do apologise for that. Deputy Speakers fall under the legislative category of government and therefore cannot serve in an executive capacity at the same time.

For that reason, I appoint r3naissanc3r and Reginald Carmichael as Election Commissioner. They will need to take the oath for this position as well. I apologise for this oversight.
