Leekem for Attorney General

Leekem

TNPer
Salutations,
My fellow North Pacifiers, I am Leekem and will be running for the office of Attorney general. I have been a part of nation’s states for nine months now, but have heard of it for much longer than that. I am a political expert, and I figure in order for you to pick the best candidate for the job you must understand my political views and what I think about politics in the North Pacific.

First let me explain the experience I have to uphold this office. I was elected president of my organization last year. I learned two important things since my term. First you cannot promise what you can’t deliver and must be able; I cannot express this enough, to say no. If you are not able to say no you will never make in politics because you cannot pleased everyone. And I've learned how to deal with situations and come up with reasonable solutions.

I believe the North Pacific is a wonderful place and has upholds the ideals of democracy. I can honestly say the government of the North Pacific is made up of people who have been constantly elected. It is time for a change ladies and gentlemen. Most of my opponents have been in a government position before or has one now. This is a constant tendency we have here and is done habitually. I’m not saying there bad but we need some new ideas in the government and I think I am one to bring new ideas to our judicial system.

I have four key principles I will do if I’m elected.
1.I will work in hand in hand with our beloved delegate
2.I will receive no bribes
3.I will have a plethora of assistants to help me reside over a case to deliver a reasonable verdict
4.And lastly I will treat each one of you fairly.

I am a commoner, never had a government position before and therefore I’m able to understand many North Pacifiers and not get caught in the government and make sure I am being true to my fellow people. I believe with these four ideals I am fully equipped to be the officeholder of attorney general. As the North Pacific we must man our ground here in the world and we must have a top notch government. The one we have now is very good but there is always room for improvement. I know I might receive harsh criticism for this but these are my views on the political stance we have here and I support it 100% but I believe if we incorporate these ideas it will be better.
As always I am willing to listen to anyone and work with them. I hope on Election Day you vote for Leekem, to lead our judicial system into a brighter day.
Thank You

It's good to see you're taking this seriously. Thank you for standing up to run, it does take guts.

I have some questions about your platform, however:

In what sense does the Attorney General reside over cases?

Does the Attorney General deliver verdicts?

You say you would work hand in hand with the Delegate. What would you do as Attorney General if the Delegate were accused of a crime?

First of all, thank you for being willing to stand. Your OP is in very general terms, and could apply when standing for almost any position in TNP.

But the position of Attorney general is one of the most technically demanding in our government. And out laws are quite complex.

So I would like to be confident that you understand our laws and our heritage.

For example, do you know what different systems of jurisprudence have been tried in the region? Which led to fast trials? Slow ones? Why did we leave behind the system of trial by jury? Why did some notable trials, such as those of Fullhead Land and JAL (I) and (II) collapse? which cases have been most significant in shaping our legal processes? Stuff like that.

these are all things that an Attorney General needs at their fingertips. Because you would be dealing with defence counsels and justices who would know this stuff.

Thank you for your questions,eluvatar.
Looking back at the constitution the attorney general has a big influence over cases and gives important legal advise to our regions more higher officials. So in a way I help give the final verdict on a case if I'm depicted the constitution right. And so it says in the bills of right.

If the delegate was to be convicted of a crime evidently I would not be able to work with him and might have to send one of my deptuies to be the prosectuor over his case.
That is how I think I would handle it.

Hi Leekem, good to see you running! I just have a few questions. :)
I was elected president of my organization last year.
What organization is this? What AG-related experience did it give you?

I can honestly say the government of the North Pacific is made up of people who have been constantly elected.
So is it your assertion that TNP is unwelcoming to new members? That it is difficult to advance?

Most of my opponents have been in a government position before or has one now.
Can you tell me who your opponents are?

2.I will receive no bribes
What sort of bribe would you find most tempting?

Thank You for your comment Deputy Speaker Sillystring.
As always I'm eager to answer.
I was elected president of a law firm. This gave me a-g experience because I had to deals with cases and preside over them. It taught me skills I would need to be your attorney general.
No I am not saying that, you'd miss interpreted it. I meant that the people in the government have been there for year. For example our Jamie was a great delegate and she had had four government positions; tnp election commissioner, temporary associate justice, and speaker of the regional assembly. I just believe that TNP has started to stray on a path where the elected officials are too comfortable in the government and not putting their absolute best and we could use some new faces.
Well the only opponent I might have Kiwi if she was to accept her nomination.
Well I said I wouldn't receive bribes, but if I were I take the spoils system. That means if someone wanted me to dismiss their trials if they gave me a government job. If that were possible.

Crushing Our Enemies:
I've never heard of a law firm electing its own president. How...progressive.
Thank You, it was kind of a strange but I won by a landslide victory against my other competitors.

You will have to forgive me if this sounds mistrusting or rude, but the language patterns, grammar and syntax of your opening post do not sound as though they come from the president of a law firm; they sound much more as if they come from someone in high school.

Also, my earlier post had some specific questions which you have not addressed yet.

Yes, Kiwi I will humbly accept your invitation to debate.
Just give me a time and I'll be their.

I would very much like to see you answer Flemingovia's questions. It is vital that anyone running for Attorney General for The North Pacific have an understanding of our laws... 'real life experience' however beneficial means very little if you do not understand the laws of the region you want the position in.

If you missed them, then: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/single/?p=8118798&t=7119902

If the two candidates can give me times they can be available on IRC to participate in a debate, then it shall happen.

I have to agree with Lord Ravenclaw. Flemingovia asked some very pertinent questions that were not at all in jest. It would be a good thing to have these questions come up in the debate between the two AG candidates.

Alright, I see where you guys are going with this. I'll tell you what, I will answer all your questions during the debate, just give me some time to prepare; like a day because voting is Sunday.
I would like the EC to tell me the day Kiwi has set for the debate, since he is more prominent in the region. I promised you all the questions will be said during this event, most likely tomorrow.
Thank You

Actually I'd prefer it if you answered them now. This is as a good a time as any and I daresay that you are trying a little too hard to avoid answering these questions.

By replying to every single post besides Flemingovia's - which required you to actively think and consider the laws (and judicial history) of the region you have made it glaringly obvious that you do not actually know the answer. At least, that is how it appears to me.

I don't believe asking for a little time to familiarize himself with the history of the judicial philosophy of the region is too much to ask. I daresay you are being a bit too pushy about it. :)

Don't drive away new and enthusiastic members for a "gotcha" moment.

I think preparation for the debate questions is a good trial run for the type of work that the AG has to do. Usually Flem has a good deal of whimsy thrown in with his posts, but on this point I don't think so.

Maybe we're all a bit skittish about another tepid term for the judicial branch. After all, this post wasn't made too long ago. I thought it funny at the time, but now I realize there's a lot of truth to it. :pinch:

I wasn't trying to be pushy. I think I deserve a little time to familiarize myself a little more with the laws, rules and regulations before I answer your questions to do it to my best ability.
I please ask let me answer your questions at the debate to give you my best answer.

I wasn't calling you pushy, I was calling the person who demanded immediate answers from you pushy. I understand that you are new to the forum scene, and am willing to give you all the time you need to feel adequately prepared. I wish you the best of luck, and I would say that if you do not win, you should at least pursue the Deputy position so you can learn the ins-and-outs of our crazy stupid judicial system. ;)

Very sorry DD,
I been a little bit on the edge. Thank you for understanding and I hope I am
able to sway you for your vote.

-Why is having no government experience a good thing rather than a bad thing?
-Could you please describe your position in 2 sentences or so?
-How does your platform differ from Kiwi's?
-Could you please tell me what you think I want to see from you?

Candidate Leekem, if you are interested in a debate against your opponent, please send myself a pm with the times you are available tomorrow, November 9th.

Iro thank you for your questions.
1. I never said having no government experience was a good thing. I just explain that I think the government officials here are a little too comfortable within the government and may lose sight of what important, the citizens of TNP. I'll give you an example, I live here in the United States. You may or may not know that our president may only served two 4 year terms. Well once before that amendment was passed we had a president, named Franklin D. Roosevelt, whose was an phenomenal person . He was elected to 4 terms and he stared getting too conformable. He wanted to change everything and it was becoming a monarchy. That where this idea was coming from, evidently not that extreme. That once in a while we need to bring in someone new, with fresh ideas.
2. My position is simple. Iro I want your vote so I will explain. Evidently you did read what I thought about TNP in my opening statement. I have read all the rules and regulations of attorney general. I have read most of the cases that went on here and I believe I could use my experience to use this power to helped turn this judicial system onto a new path. I am always willing to work with anyone and get the job done.
3. Why should you vote for me and not Kiwi is simple. I tried to read Kiwi platform but I couldn't and why I couldn't is because their wasn't one. She had no platform and least I wrote what I thought of nation states and me as person. I explained what I thought of politics, why should vote for me, and how I will be going about the position if I get elected. I want your vote because I believe it will be more effective. If you look at my competitor she has gotten three votes so far just because she is know in the government. That is what I am talking about. We need a change and not just vote for a familiar face but for the person who you think will do the better job.
4. I think you want to see me using all aspects of the constitution and bill of rights. I believe you want to see me taking into the account all evidence presented to me for a case. I think you want to see me arguing reasonable cases, no matter who the person is. I think you want to see me using our past law history and not make the same mistakes we did in the past and lastly you want to see me do the job to the best of my ability.
So I end this post by saying Iro if you truly believe Kiwi is better vote for her but don't vote for her because she is a familiar. I may be fairly new but I learned about TNP just as much as anyone here. This is my second time running and I believe I can make change. So I asked you to join me in my campaign and helped me with this election to lead our judicial system.
Thank You

I think you have good ideals and you have shown enthusiasm for the role, your answers have mostly been thoughtful.

I want to see you get better and I think I need to draw your attention to some basic mistakes. The Attorney General does not deliver verdicts, that's what a Justice does, it's a different role. The Attorney General brings charges to the court, gathers evidence and presents it to the court and argues a case for convicting the accused. This is a basic misunderstanding, and once you realize this and show that you understand it, I think the voters will be less troubled by your lack of experience - but you have not long to convince them.

Furthermore, look at any questions that you haven't answered, and prepare yourself to answer them as properly and as soon as you can.

In have always understood the basic role of the attorney General but I thought there was more to the job.
I am currently researching past courts cases and rules and is preparing to answer Flems questions.

Ah - seen the log of the debate, and I notice that my questions were not addressed in that debate. Any chance of some answers?

I would like to thank all who voted for me. Unfortunately we did not carry enough votes to win the office, but our ideas have been hear and we will eventually make it there. I hope kiwi knows what he has signed up for and does right by his fellow citizens.
We will be victorious one day.
Once again I thank all who voted for me and wish luck to Kiwi in his future endeavors.
