Don't vote for that Punk D for AG

First, decided to change up my avatar. That is the RL Punk Daddy you see on the left there. From time to time local political shows like to ask Punk D what he thinks about local political issues. This is me on one of them.

It's fun, I like being on tv (kids dig it, "Daddy is that you?"), and it is also inspiring me to lose some weight. All good things.

So, what does this have to do with running for Attorney General? Quite a bit, actually. In RL yours truly absolutely loves to laugh at myself and I don't take myself as seriously as my words might indicate.

My last run at AG, I was very disappointed with myself in how the term didn't meet my high expectations. I was very, very, very serious about being a great AG and I didn't get there. Looking back at what I did accomplish, I wasn't horrible.

This go around, I have no expectations. All I can promise you is that if there is breath in this body and keyboards available to be struck, I will do the best job I can.

I'm going to make mistakes but I do promise to best represent TNP. The only other thing I promise to do is prosecute cases in a timely fashion. I will probably take more pause, if elected, this time because last time in my desire to expedite trials there were times when I wasn't fully prepared as I should have been. No one's fault but my own, but if you elect me I will be more deliberate.

Thanks for your time. As always, I'm open to questions and hopefully a candidate will come out the woodwork that is far better than me and we can all vote for him/her.

If not, good luck to me!

:P

You have already been Attorney General and Chief Justice, so you have some prior experience with the judicial branch in TNP. Besides what you've already said in the OP, what specifically do you think would help make the judicial branch more functional?

Well, the AG’s office can only control itself. One of the failings I had as AG was in the approach I took to justices. I recall trying to push the envelope early in a case where Bel was the judge. I was only testing the limits. I was well beyond the limits Bel wanted but not far beyond where I thought they should be. In my time as AG, I spent too much time arguing over the process of a number of items and less about the content of a particular case. Process concerns I had around rebuttals and such weren’t shared by any defense attorney I faced nor by the court. I won’t do that again.
It’s hard to explain, but the point of an AG is to win cases. I was trying to fight for justice as I saw it, and those two aren’t always on the same side.
I could not believe in one particular case I saw something that I believed advantaged the plaintiff too much. I brought itup and defense thought I was trying to do something that was ‘fair’. I won’t be doing that type of stuff again. My focus will only be to understand what evidence the justices see as ‘credible’ and speak to that. Won’t be that difficult to take that approach and I’d encourage every would-be AG to do just that.
What made you decide that you wish to be Attorney General again?
I’m disappointed that BW abandoned the office, disappointed Gaspo abandoned the office, disappointed that Grosse was a failure. In many ways I receive more grief for my time as AG as they do and I didn’t abandon the office, and we got through a number of cases while I was AG. A law was determined to be unconstitutional as part of my time as AG. I believe, iirc, Sovereignry won a case.
I ‘wish’ to run for only one reason, for all the flaws I made as AG, one thing I didn’t do was abandon the office. I want to give TNP the choice to have an AG they can trust to be there and if I can’t be there, they can trust I will tell them. I’m not going to be overly concerned with Deputies as well. I will have zero or one, max.
A functional AG is required in order for the justice system to work. I won’t be the best or worst, but I’ll be reliable. That is far better than what we have had in past 3 months.

Thank you for your detailed response. Based on the fact that you have (1) stated that you will actually carry out the duties of the office and (2) will not abandon the office the first chance you get, you have my support.

Thank you for the support.

Hopefully we can set the bar a bit higher than those 2 things going forward.

You know you have my vote. I found your tenacity as a Justice to be admirable. I don't care that you made mistakes, only that you were willing to change your mind, and not give up. :)

(Don't tell Flem i'm voting for you ;) )

Flem-God
I think Flem's greatest strength, imo, is his ability to be consistent in all cases. I like that about Flem because I think it's a good character trait in general. I don't have much respect for those who change position based upon the winds of opportunity and Flem doesn't do that. I believe that is a strength.

Flem's greatest weakness? The weakness of anyone who doesn't change positions is that often they are not able or do not try to cowtow to the masses. That's only a weakness because it means you can have a great idea but if the masses don't like how you've been so - shall we say - straightforward with them, they'll dismiss your idea because it's coming from you. So, sometimes you have to catch bees with honey and I am not sure that's a strength for Flem.

Belschaft
I believe Bel's greatest strength is that he is usually not afraid to take a position and try something out. You might notice a theme in things I call strengths. :) As an AG you may be forced to take positions that aren't popular and I believe Bels has the ability to do that in order to pursue Justice for TNP.

Bel's greatest weakness? I think Bel has shown a penchant, penchant might be too strong, but I have seen a number of times where he flies off the handle. If you get Bels upset he's upset. And in anger, one doesn't usually make good decisions.

------
Overall, I have no problems with either of them as AG. The only concern I'd have with Bels would be his current role as TSP delegate. I see no conflict of interest, but I definitely see some time constraints and the one thing we need is someone who is able to commit the time needed to be AG.

Thanks for the question, SS.

First, you have The Minister's vote. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing for your campaign.

Second, do you plan to pursue the cases currently collecting dust in the AG's office?

First, thank you for your support.

Regarding your question, let’s take a look at what’s open presently using the order they appear in the forum:

[CIVIL]Complaint by Gracius Maximus
It is not the job of the AG to serve as part of the plaintiff’s team in civil cases so it means nothing to me. I’m not even sure why I bothered to post about it.

I kid of course. SOAPBOX RANT: Too many people in this region and elsewhere only look at things through the narrow lens of “is it my job?” and not through the lens of “what’s best for the region?” I believe a functioning judicial system is worth more than skipping past procedure. In this particular case, I have zero interest in being the plaintiff but I will promise to do all I can to make sure this case is heard…even though it’s not my job.

[CRIMINAL] Complaint Against King Durk the Awesome
With respect to this case, I need to look at the evidence. At a cursory glance it seems like the timeline will cause an issue. I will investigate and come to a decision on whether or not to prosecute fairly quickly if elected.

[CRIMINAL] Complaint against Tyler Kazakov
I am likely to pursue this case against Tyler as there appears to be sufficient public evidence. This case will actually be a good lithmus test for future situations. The question is, is it lawful to join a government that has overthrown the government of an ally? The justices should have a chance to hear this case provided that I am able to round up the evidence and witnesses needed to testify.

[CRIMINAL] Complaint against Karpathos
I’m not sure about this one. I didn’t follow it closely enough and I do not know if the evidence is there to prosecute. I will, however, investigate and make a determination.

[CRIMINAL] Complaint against Funkadelia
This is a complaint against a sitting Justice and a complaint alleging treason. I will investigate this complaint and make a determination as to what to do next. Jeez, we’re hitting things that date back to June. My gut feeling is that I will likely not prosecute this case, but it has been a while and I need to review the evidence.

[CRIMINAL] Complaint against B Wolf
Dang you, Gaspo!!!!!!

And this one goes back to April with AG Gaspo saying “This matter will be addressed by my office.” On…April…24th. I don’t recall this complaint in great detail at all, but again, I will investigate the claims and if there is sufficient evidence I will pursue the case.

[CRIMINAL] Complaint against King Durk the Awesome
I’ll be checking this one out and seeing if the original complainant, Cormac, wishes to pursue. Two cases against Durk at the same time won’t be very easy to prosecute. Alas, if I must I will.

Mental Note To Self: Regardless if fellow justices don’t deem it their job (see soapbox rant above) to ensure that AG’s are doing their job, make sure not to allow a quarter of a year to pass by without speaking up in the Assembly about an AG’s job performance.

….And now for more Soapbox ranting.

People of the Regional Assembly, do you see how many freaking cases are open, some dating back to April 24!! That’s almost 5 months ago!! During my tenure as AG, I did all that I could to make sure the wheels kept turning and the last two jokers AG’s undid all of that work. Either one could have just said “sorry, I can’t commit the time” and stepped aside. But no, they didn’t.

The caseload is massive and while I don’t believe every case will be prosecuted regardless of who becomes AG, I find it near criminal that prior AGs left this mess. I guarantee you that will not be the case if/when I leave office and I hope that you believe me because when I left office last time I cleaned up the mess then too. Let’s make sure we elect someone who is going to go through all of the cases and bring finality to them.

Sticking with a precedent I set sometime in 2005, I am voting for Flem. When it is a two-horse race I always vote for the other guy.

Even though Belschaft is on the ballot, he has withdrawn from the race and so it's just me or Flem. So I am remaining consistent with what I have done for years.
