RA Oath Modification - informal discussion

Romanoffia

Garde à l'eau!
The current oath reads as follows:

I, the leader of The North Pacific nation of [INSERT YOUR TNP NATION], pledge loyalty to The North Pacific, obedience to her laws, and responsible action as a member of her society. I pledge to only register one nation to vote in The North Pacific. I pledge that no nation under my control will wage war against the North Pacific. I understand that if I break this oath I may permanently lose my voting privileges. In this manner, I petition the Speaker for membership in the Regional Assembly of the North Pacific.

I propose the addition of certain phrases (in blue) as thus:

I, the leader of The North Pacific nation of [INSERT YOUR TNP NATION], pledge loyalty to The North Pacific, obedience to her laws, and to engage in responsible action as a member of her society, and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion.

The phrase "and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion" I suggest be added as a means to prevent and make actionable (as a violation of the oath) any act in which an individual joins the RA for less than honorable, legitimate purposes and/or under false pretenses for ulterior motive that could result in an unlawful action (such as infiltration or as part of an RA flooding attempt).

Any thoughts on this?

I don't much like the 'to engage in' amendment here. COE specifically reworded it to three nouns (loyalty, obedience, action) instead of the infinitive verbs we had before.

I have no strenuous objection to the mental reservation clause being added, but I think it should be a new sentence at the end.

And Chas is right.

Agreed. That was my first reaction before even reading the comments - "noun, noun, verb!?" :P
TNP's own homebrew version of duck, duck, goose?

Also agreed on the formatting comments.

I do not have any strong objection. However, I generally dislike overly relying on the oath to enforce these things. If you believe that the criminal offences currently listed in the Legal Code do not adequately cover the sort of evasion you describe, it would be much better to instead pass an act to amend existing or add new ones.

So how about this version, then?

I, the leader of The North Pacific nation of [INSERT YOUR TNP NATION], pledge loyalty to The North Pacific, obedience to her laws, and responsible action as a member of her society. I pledge to only register one nation to vote in The North Pacific. I pledge that no nation under my control will wage war against the North Pacific. I understand that if I break this oath I may permanently lose my voting privileges. In this manner, I freely petition the Speaker for membership in the Regional Assembly of the North Pacific, without mental reservation or purpose of evasion.

EDIT: Oh, and while we're at it, why not go ahead and change "obedience to her laws" to "obedience to the law," avoiding the pronoun altogether? It's not like anyone's going to think we're talking about some other set of laws, and it sidesteps the issue of whether our beloved region is an it or a she :P

I like this a lot.
