Common-Sense Politics Wins Presidential Election
Common-Sense Politics was elected President on March 22-23 in an election that drew 39 citizens to the polls. CSP’s running mate, Drexlore Greyjoy, is the new Vice President. Long-time citizens Elias Greyjoy and McEntire tied for second. This marks CSP’s fourth term as President, which is second most in Europeian history. CSP made foreign policy the center piece of his electoral campaign, arguing for a continued focus on an independent policy and increased wariness of supraregional organizations and false raider/defender dichotomies.
President Common-Sense Politics
As their first official act, most Presidents deliver an inaugural address that summarizes points laid out during the election campaign. Eschewing such an approach, CSP went straight to work, imploring the Senate to swiftly confirm his Cabinet choices. Less than 48 hours later, those choices were unanimously approved: Attorney General McEntire, Minister of Culture malashaan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Skizzy Grey, Grand Admiral Elias Greyjoy, Immigration Minister Stersteraved, and Minister without Portfolio Seven Deaths.
Outgoing President Swakistek announced that the end of his term would mark his retirement from active politics in Europeia, concluding a four-year career that stands as one of the most distinguished in Europeian history. Swakistek is taking a leave of absence to recharge his batteries but intends to retain his position on the forum’s administrative team.
The Globe Leads a Reinvigorated Media Sphere
Europeia has a longstanding tradition of private media, where any citizen who wishes to maintain a media outlet on the regional forums may do so. These outlets have been remarkably active of late, with coverage of the recent elections and foreign affairs happenings comprising the bulk of the coverage.
President-turned-muckraker Rachel Anumia
The Globe, published by two-time President Rachel Anumia has led the latest surge of media activity. Her latest media piece focused on the recent leak by Ravenia of confidential North Pacific conversation logs, but the discussion that ensued embraced other topics, including a debate over the Founderless Regions Alliance’s commitment to defend Nazi-themed regions. Citizens and foreign dignitaries of all viewpoints were invited to take part in the conversations, which were characterized by a tone of civilized aggressiveness.
Meanwhile, a more genial tone prevailed in discussions of domestic politics in publications such as The Stag, written by WA Delegate and former President Stersteraved, and E-News, the longstanding outlet of Supreme Chancellor HEM. Those genial discussions provided a wonderful opportunity for recent arrivals to discuss, and learn about, the internal politics of Europeia, in the context of the region’s most exciting presidential election in recent memory.
Happy Birthday, Europeia!
This fireworks display leaves something to be desired, don't you think?
On March 6th, there was culture galore in Europeia as the region reached its 6th birthday. The region exploded with activity, boosted by the fact that the Euro6 banquet came just a few days after the Balder-Euro Festival. We had a couple of visitors from other regions, but it was mostly various Europeians who turned up and made a few speeches. These speeches reminded us of the history of the region in relation to how it is now, and provided predictions on how Europeia might progress in the future.
We also witnessed the return of a few members of the "Old Guard", such as Verteger, Cordova I and Pineapleboy. The highlight of the celebrations, however, was at the closing ceremony, where Common-Sense Politics received his Triumph -- the region's highest military honor -- for his persistent and visionary leadership of the Europeian Republican Navy.
As one of the most enduring regions in NationStates, Europeia looks forward to another great year, and to reflecting back on that greatness at Euro7 next year.
