Dynamite Debates – The Senate gets Stuck-in
The Senate Deep in Discussion
Drama! Discussion! Deliberation! The senate has been exceedingly busy in recent weeks, with lively and spirited debate sparked by two recent pieces of legislation.
The first was an amendment to the senate standing orders to prevent senators voting in favour of themselves when a personal conflict of interest arises. This was heavily debated, but eventually it passed by a tightly contested vote 3 to 2. But the drama didn’t end there! A challenge to the amendment’s constitutionality was brought before the Kantrian High Tribunal, and was again much discussed before the case was ruled on by Chief Justice Christopher Bishop. The Chief Justice’s verdict was that no constitutional rights were violated by this amendment to the Senates rules and procedures.
The second was a piece of legislation placed before the Senate that was designed to standardise the way that legislation is published. Debate centred not on the idea behind the legislation, but instead on the specific details. The vote saw one senator abstaining and another voting ‘present’, and the motion was carried with 3 votes.
And after a long vacancy, the last position on the Kantrian High Tribunal was filled. Lucy Delacroix was inaugurated as the newest High Tribunal justice, joining Christopher Bishop and Christian Wright in the three person tribunal.
Capacious Culture – Dialogue and Dungeons
The senate in action... No, that’s not right… Ah, yes! Dungeons and Dragons!
There has been a staggering variety of culture on display in Kantrias in recent days. We've seen the latest episode of the Kantrian podcast, the Kantricast, the beginnings of a Dungeons and Dragons game, a competition to find an unofficial national anthem, and much, much more!
The latest episode of the Kantrian talk-show podcast, newly christened the Kantricast, saw a wide ranging discussion take place on what the future of Kantrias might look like. The panel, consisting of Cerian Quilor, Eliora Lockwood, Christopher Bishop, Edward Leben, Jimothy Wright, Christian Wright, and Magenta fairy, examined several issues which are currently dominating the domestic Kantrian political agenda. Among the topics discussed was the role of political parties, possible governmental reform, and the ins-and-outs of a regional currency.
The Ministry of Culture has announced a new competition to find an unofficial national anthem for Kantrias. The competition calls for submissions three stanzas in length, and the winning entries will be judged by a public vote after a short list is compiled by Minister Amber and Queen Eliora.
The citizens of Kantrias will soon be plumbing the depths of dark vaults in search for gold and glory in a Dungeons and Dragons adventure run by King Cerian Quilor. The adventure, using the 3.5 rules, has been written and designed by the King. This promising adventure already has several players busily rolling stats and labouring over character sheets.
The Kantrias Philosophical symposium has been officially opened in the Clubs and Societies area of the Kantrias forums. The Symposium, designed to allow the citizens of Kantrias a place to discuss weighty issues, has so far seen discussion ranging from the Seven Deadly sins, all the way to the worst forms of totalitarian dystopia.
Drums of War – Kantrias Aids Allied Occupation
