ARCHIVED: Belsian Arrival Causes Riot

CIESSA- Rumor had it for months that Chancellor Kraven and members of the Checkers Central Division had been talking secretly with economic leaders from Belsi, a nation despised by the citizens of Checkers for various reasons. Every once in a while, some sketchy evidence would surface, only to be dismissed by the government as a bunch of hogwash or attempt to distract from real issues.

That is, until now.

Yesterday, information was leaked that Richard Katrian, the head of Belsi's Fiscal Representation (essentially, the government's foreign treasurers) was arriving in Ciessa's Paramount Terminal, where the city's high-speed train system was centered. Just hours before, the opposition media went wild. "Clear evidence of lifting embargos and sanctions with Belsi!" raved Mark Pryor on Prior to Pryor. The government denied everything. Yet, convinced this was a final straw, the Citizen's Company political faction and others organized a giant protest at Paramount Terminal.

Thousands were gathered on the Main Floor. The Ciessa Incendiary Task Force had sent an insurmountable amount of agents clad in Emergency Forces Red to subdue the crowd. The protestors were in the middle of a freshly created chant ("Trade with Belsi, not with us?! Don't throw citizens under the bus!") when a hush fell over the crowd. It seemed the evidence was correct, for Richard Katrian, escorted by six Agents, was walking slowly down the balcony steps.

There was an erie stillness for a while. Suddenly, a woman in the crowd jumped and yelled "BELSI!" A riot broke out. Police rushed in from all doors and attempted to subdue the crowd. For several minutes, angry civilians clashed with police forces struggling to gain order. Witnesses interviewed later recalled not being able to pick out Katrian during the struggle, thinking he might have been taken under. Soon, however, police forces and called-in military took control. Riot squads arrested many and took control of the station.

This morning, it was revealed Katrian was hospitalized at Saint Judica's Hospital. A protest quickly formed but the hospital had been guarded well by police.

A further update on Belsi, the government's position, and Katrian's health is pending.

It could be noted, as leaked to the international media via lowly intern within the Company, that the Union's government is monitoring this matter closely.
