Jordan Lennon: "The Galt Conference is NOT a Conspiracy"

[Citing a number of news organizations that have been criticizing the Galt Conference and proclaiming it destructive to the Union's sovereignty, Jordan Lennon slammed the press today in a sudden and swift press release over the matter of the Galt Conference.

"In contrast to the statements of certain organizations, the Galt Conference is actually not a conspiracy." Mr. Lennon stated, in a press conference taking place during a recess of the Conference. "The Galt Conference actually seeks to strengthen our sovereignty and our connections to other nations like us in the North Pacific. It is not destructive to national policies and the fact that it is being regarded as such is highly offensive to the legacy of the Revolution." Mr. Lennon went on to warn that further libel will not be tolerated and that instead of automatically attacking every little foreign affair, "the media should sit down and shut up."

Surprisingly, he isn't the only one to be saying such things. Mr. Carmichael, an outspoken opponent of the John Lennon Presidency in its later years, and Chairman of the Committee of Finances, have surprised many by coming to the defense of Jordan Lennon.

"The fact that the media is assaulting Mr. Lennon and accusing him of surrendering our national sovereignty is atrocious." He proclaimed yesterday after a meeting of the Parliament concluded for the day. "Media networks like Fedox and The Truth Gazette have made pathetic attempts to terrify the public into acting irrationally and destroy the growth of our foreign relations. I usually do not agree with the Lennon family or Jordan, but this is a case where both of us agree that such accusations are disrupting the daily life and political landscape of the nation." When pushed a bit more for an extension of his answer, he cleared his throat and cracked his winning smile. "I can promise right now that if this slander continues, I will heavily encourage the Parliament to push for a strong response to such atrocious remarks."

In the wake of this controversy, Foreign Affairs Minister John Walsh of the Almanianian Union has announced that it will be releasing a large amount of information on the ongoing Galt Conference transcripts, documents, and even a recording of the first half of the Galt Conference later today. The Galt Conference, a negotiation process in which there has been no official agenda, has been the source of contentious debate in the Union with many citizens decrying it as a conspiracy movement against our national sovereignty. The Ministry has already revealed that there is indeed work on a regional organization designed for governments with some form of democratic representation in the Galt Conference being referred to as the North Pacific Community. Details on the North Pacific Community are being compiled and prepared for release to the public on the Government's foreign affairs website. The Foreign Affairs Ministry has already announced that any agreements made in the Conference will be put to a vote in the Parliament and a plebiscite to the people.

Senate Passes Embassy Program Reformation and Guidelines Act; Moves to the House

The Senate has passed the Embassy Program Reformation and Guidelines Act (EPRGA) today by a vote of 198 for, 44 against, and 10 abstaining. Under the EPRGA, the Embassy Program in the Almanianian Union would be reformed and reopened to provide for closer relations with other nations and would change the guidelines to better reflect the growing ties with delegations of the Galt Conference. The Act also grants two currently undecided cities to approve construction permits for new embassies to allow nations located towards the Northwest to have easier access to their embassies.

However, the surprising news is not the passage of the bill to the House, which was seen as inevitable. Instead, it is the people in the Senate who voted for it. On top of the EDEN Alliance and the United Citizen's Party, the nine Senators Technologist Imperial Party's and eleven Senators of the People's Party voted in favor of the proposed bill.

"It appears that there may be splinters in the People's Party." Alvino Castillon, the Union's Personification stated. "I can't speak on their behalf, since I am supposed to be technically nonpartisan... however, I can safely say that there is going to be a lot of heated discussion in the People's Party." People's Party Chairman William Carson has already condemned the members of his own party for voting alongside the EDEN Alliance the United Citizens Party on the measure.

"We are outraged that they would approve something as heinous as this." He said in a released statement. "These Senators have gone against the principles of our non-interventionist ways and are going back on their pledge to stop foreign influences from reaching our shores." While some in his party have joined his call for condemnation, others have asserted that they were voting on behalf of the people that elected them.

"You can't just blame them for something like this." Mr. Castillon said as he leaned against one of the pillars of the Parliament. "They voted in the way that they felt their voters would want them to vote. They listened to the people and they voted alongside what the people wanted."

The bill is set to be moved to debate starting tomorrow morning. Many people expect that the bill will be passed with severe ease and that it will reach the desk of the President by tomorrow morning.
