Mordor News Update: Issue 1.

The Forces of Mordor; a view from the Front Line

Mordor is one of the fastest growing regions in whole nationstates, and now it has its own military. The Dark Lord started, together with his minions, a recruiting mission to attract the nations of region into signing up for the Forces of Mordor.

Except for the commanders, most of the militants start life out as Goblins, since the Military has recently been created, with some achieving their first promotion already, they are expected to be loyal to the land and their commanders, so patience is required to be a true soldier of Mordor.

Mordor is an Imperialist defender region. Protecting regions across Nationstates, and ensuring our influence is spread far and wide. By joining their side, the forces of Mordor prevent raider organisations invading founderless regions. By successfully defending, liberating, and detagging those regions, Mordor ensures the players of Nationstates a safer environment free from raider exploitation.

Perhaps it is rather odd that a corrupt and evil region like Mordor chooses to aid the Defender side in the ever enduring Nationstates battles, but this is based on strong and eternal principals of Mordor, that puts Mordor's interests first, but ensures that regions grow to respect and pay homage to the region.

The Forces of Mordor shares its victories, but also its losses, from which we learn and allows us to grow stronger. We are the defenders of the future. The Forces of Mordor will be known by everyone!

Because we all know that the Eye is Always watching!

Google advises caution when moving into Mordor

The First Constitution of Mordor
The Lord of the Black Land and de-facto ruler of the region Mordor, the Evil Lord Sauron, does hereby enact the constitution of the 2nd dawn of Mordor

And it was so. The first constitution of Mordor was created. In a surprise twist the region was divided, with a democratically elected second Head of State, with equal powers to Sauron himself. The two heads of state would fight it out nominating their political allies into the Nazgul legislature council, which would then form the Government. A further final position is directly elected by the Denizens of Mordor.

Six candidates came forward to run for the final position. This was in response to the Saruman election which saw Aule elected to represent the Denizens within the region. He caused outrage when he nominated himself for the Nazgul, denying what the Denizens saw as a privileged spot within the Government. This dual role sparked election campaigning with a surprise victory for Alancar, a strong supporter of Aule. This did not come without controversy, with the legality of the vote questioned, Alancar receiving 40% of the vote, when the constitution clearly states a "Majority" vote. A huge debate ensued with the outcome changing the face of Mordor politics. Alancar remained, allowing Karputsk to become the first Witch-King of Mordor.

Karputsk was chosen as Witch-King with 4 votes to 3.

In such a short space of time, Mordor has already seen one impeachment with Nazguul removed from the Legislation body for a poor conduct within office. Malkir was nominated to replace him.

Mordor Foreign Policy

The region has also seen an upturn in embassy requests as of late with the region accepting any and all embassy requests. With close to 80 embassies and more being received daily, Sauron, was quick to accept the request spreading Mordor’s name far and wide. But with the new Government a controversial policy was enacted. The Government of Mordor has ordered the closure of all its in-game embassies. The argument arose after Aule stated that as a large region, the embassies were being used to recruit from our region. Mordor wanted exclusivity and would from now on only accept embassy requests from regions that fit a strict criteria. Only regions that satisfied this criteria, would be accepted for an in-game embassy. Sparking outrage from Ambassadors and Envoys as well as the opposition Government the policy has been a focal point of this term so far.

Legislative controversy
Written by Karputsk

Aside from agreeing to a set of procedures, the Nazgul have got off to a somewhat slow start. All this was set to change as the first major piece of legislation - the Election Procedures Act (authored by Tadin) was approved by the Council (vote: 4-3) and the Bill’s sponsors demanded a signature. However, in a somewhat unexpected twist the Witch King Karputsk presented the bill to the White Wizard as opposed to Sauron. At first Aule chose to sign the legislation and wished to honour the first offering presented by the Nazgul. But after lobbying from Karputsk in regards to the content of the Bill and its pitfalls he felt it necessary to veto the Bill.

While Karputsk's concerns may have been legitimate, his methods to ensure its failure were deemed by some members to be the complete opposite. Only a few days prior to Karputsk’s inference Speaker of the Council, Andarev, had explicitly denied that the Witch King was afforded such a power according to the constitution. Despite this Karputsk took it upon himself to present the Bill to either of the possible signatories.

Riders Malkir and Tadin were quick to attack the Witch King, keen to encourage Sauron to challenge for the signature and create a political backlash for the increasingly isolated Karputsk. However, he remained convinced that he was correct in assuming the role of messenger and that his reasoning was sound. In the end however, the dissenting voices proved too numerous and Sauron decided to challenge. In doing so he initiated a regional debate regarding the Bill and a referendum on the choice of signatory. Denizen Wibblefeet and Witch King Karputsk were chosen by Aule to present his case, Wibblefeet was very influential in regards to the Veto due to his criticisms of the Bill following its passage.

By now the Council's uproar had largely died down and all eyes were focused on the Great Host as Tadin and Wibblefeet exchanged verbal blows in a desperate scramble for votes. Karputsk commented at a later stage to re-emphasise Wibblefeet's points but was for the most part absent in the topic.

Shortly following Karputsk's comments Sauron initiated the referendum, which is still underway, and the region is eagerly awaiting the outcome of its first ever challenge. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation unfolds, it must only be a matter of time before the votes are tallied and the results are presented.
