I believe postponing the inauguration goes against the Venezuelan constitution. If the president-elect is absent on Jan. 10 a new election must take place within 30 days according to the constitution.

That sounds like a TNP Law. xD

I think it would be a shame if after his election, they had to immediately call more elections, which I assume he would win anyway?

I think that its an issue when the law is so clear that it doesn't allow for exceptional circumstances. In this case he is ill, but say, had someone not wanted him to be inaugurated and shot him leaving him hospitalized and missing the inauguration... elections would be called?

I'm not sure I like laws like that. The people knew he was ill when they voted for him, surely an exception can be made.

I don't think he would be allowed to run in reelections since he missed the inauguration.
I heard there is a rumour that he is serving as a mentor to his successor.

I have heard that if there are reelections Chavez has requested that the people vote for the vice president.

Of course Chavez would win. He would kill the competition, quite literally.
