Hello everyone!
My name is Almaniania, and I am a candidate for Speaker of the Regional Assembly in this special election.
Now, this is the part where I am supposed to paint a picture and convince you, the voter, to consider me as a possible choice in this upcoming special election. This is the part where I am supposed to brush past my faults and cover them up with my experience in a major office of a major region... but I'll be honest. I wasn't a former Delegate of some large feeder region, nor was I part of a major office in huge regions that are prominent in Nation States. I was part of small regions, formed by a few close friends or allies that often struggled to gain new nations in its borders. I held some offices (Former Chief of Foreign Affairs in Global Powers and Former Global Powers representative to the NS Republic), but I was never part of a regional government of a feeder region. I will admit that I lack the experience of other candidates in such regional governments. I know that I have been in the North Pacific and the Regional Assembly for a short amount of time and that I do have a lot to learn.
However, where I lack in experience with large regional governments and offices in those governments, I make up for in judgement, debate etiquette, and passion. I put my heart and soul into every post I make, from the logic that defines it, to the grammar that expresses it. With every argument I make, I attempt to put things into context and look at the larger picture as a whole and I look at every possible side of a debate before I step into it. Now, why should that be important? I believe that a Speaker needs to do the same thing. Every possible side needs to be considered before a decision is made on an issue and I believe that my experience and method for debate will help in making decisions as such. I am a passionate advocate of the North Pacific and since my admittance into the Regional Assembly, I have participated in voting and debate on a number of motions and proposals.
I know there are two major issues that face this special election and the Speaker. I would like to make my position known on both of them now.
Speaker's Powers: The powers of the speaker have become an issue in the form of voting. Currently, the Court has ruled that Kingborough was indeed within his powers to enforce restrictions of voting on proposals and motions. While I believe strongly that campaigning and expressing opinions should not be allowed under any circumstances in a vote, I would be more than willing to relax the restriction on coloring of the vote to colors that are anything other than bright yellow and white. I believe that changes in text size (whether larger or smaller) are a nuisance, gratuitous, and should remain restricted.
Speaker Neutrality in Voting: The neutrality of the Speaker is a tradition that some argue is a necessity to prevent bias. There is concern that the Office of Speaker should come before the right to expression and to vote of a citizen. I can not stand with this tradition in full. As a citizen of the North Pacific, the Speaker should be able to break neutrality in the face of voting on proposals and amendments that affect the entirety of the region. However, I do promise that I will stand with the tradition of neutrality on motions that are targeted towards a specific nation or small group of nations (ie: Voting on a motion to recall). I believe that the Speaker needs to remain unbiased towards a single person or a group of people, but should be entitled to express their thoughts on proposals and amendments in the form of voting.
I am more than sure that the second response will provoke some negative feedback from some voters, especially those who believe in the traditional stance of Speaker Neutrality. However, when this issue first arose, I made my stance on this clear to others after much thought and consideration. I am not a person who would go back on their stances, unless convinced by hard evidence and debate that this stance is not the proper one.
I am sure there are many other questions that people would like to ask. Please feel free to ask them and I will answer them to the best of my ability.
To my opponents, I wish you the best of luck in this campaign. To the voters, I hope that you will consider giving me a chance to serve one of the greatest regions in Nation States as your Speaker.
