Romanoffia for Delegate!

Romanoffia

Garde à l'eau!
Romanoffia for Delegate! Buck Tradition!

Why?

Because I have been around for a long time in TNP... a really long time. That means I know just about everything there is to know to keep the region safe and secure, and I won't hesitate to bitch-smack anyone who tries any funny business.

* I am the ultimate outsider even though I have been involved in regional government forever.

* Native TNPer. I have no outside loyalties or ties foreign to TNP. That means I am absolutely loyal to TNP as my record shows.

* Strong on Defense - I don't tolerate anyone messing with the region and will employ the NPA to disassemble anyone who messes with us.

* I will actually set a unified government policy that has an actual purpose other than to just plod along like a wind-up toy and enforce the Laws and Constitution.

* I will make sure that we become extremely active as a region and government and keep it that way.

* Fun will be enforced by law. Just kidding. If anyone is to tight-arsed to have a sense of humor, then that's their problem, not kidding.

* I'm sillier than Scandigrad.

So, ask me any questions you might have and I promise not to give you nebulous and inane platitudes unless they are ironic, sardonic or just plain sarcastic in the event that someone asks me a really idiotic question. Idiotic and silly* questions and comments are not encouraged, however they will be graded. :P

*Had to add 'silly' to that line because Scandigrad asked a silly question.

You'll sweep the electoral college. Guaranteed.
F for concept, D- for failed sarcasm. A+ for an ad-home statement

Advice for improvement upon your part: Why don't you actually ask a serious question worthy of the level of intellect I know you possess instead of making statements that are irrelevant, ad-hom and make you appear to be so much less than what you are?

Funny, isn't it? Every one wants change and reform in TNP and what do they do? They elect someone who always ends up doing the same thing and do so every time. We elect people who sometimes don't show up just because we like them, and choose to attack those who actually know what they are doing and will show up without fail.

But what more would one expect in a political state where idiotic ad-hom attacks mean more than substance and experience?

Here's apparently how one wins the Delegacy in TNP: Demonize your opponent(s) so that you look better than they do and hope you fool people into voting for you. I won't waste my time following that old paradigm.

And when everyone votes, just remember - people get exactly the government they deserve.

Except, Roman, I'm not running. I have no horse in this race.

I contemplated running, sure, but I'm not. Furthermore, the one thing on which I do agree with you, is that the result of this election won't be the game changer which TNP so desperately needs. The victor will, again, be the candidate who delivers more of the same stagnant status quo. But, then, democracy is a device where people get the government they deserve, right?

And I am not asking a question of you because, at this point, I am content with my understanding of what your platform is. If that changes I'll be sure to ask.

Oh, and finally - I did think it was funny. Maybe it was just too soon? :P

Great Bights Mum:
Roman, after all these years, I think it's about time you took a turn in the Big Seat. Best of luck on your campaign!
Many thanks, Mum!

I know you're not running. The comment was about how campaign tactics are conducted in general. Nasty insults tend to be the order of the day because, well, nasty usually wins. That is one of the things that I will try to change in TNP.

Hopefully, the victor will not deliver the same old stagnant status quo. That is why I am running in the first place - to put an end to stagnation. My idea of what the status quo should be is this: A vibrant, active and attractive region that is stable and one in which people will actually want to participate rather than just park their nation in.

The one thing I can promise is that should I win, it will be a game changer. Let me detail how:

First, I understand what makes TNP tick and what spurs activity and involvement.

In the past, activity has been always increased by (unfortunately) these particular things:

1.) Rogue Delegates

2.) Usurpers and Invaders

3.) Internal political strife and power-grabs/power mongering in TNP, usually conducted on the forum in less than civil fashion

4.) Misguided attempts to spur activity by any number of dried up, worn out schemes.

5.) Poltical 'assassinations', and,

6.) The stagnant perpetuation of a vegetable tradition that always plugs us back to any item on this list just to go through the motions all over again.

Now, the big question is, how do we break this cycle of status quo and stagnation? Very easy, at least for someone who has seen it all happen over the years and knows how to change it. It's not enough to simply know what is wrong or how things currently work. It requires the ability to work within the existing system and apply the existing system to facilitate change, and, more importantly, how to apply the 'system' to get different results and facilitate real change. And I am fairly sure that I know how to do it. In fact, I am certain I know how to do it with extremely satisfactory results.

In general form, this is what actually needs to be done, not just talked about:

1.) TNP needs a government that is operating under a specific policy that promotes a specific goal.

2.) That specific goal must be the security of the region, the prosperity of the region, the increased prestige of the region, the welfare and cultural life of the region as expressed in the government, the RMB and on the regional forum.

The one thing that must be done is that the Government of the region, all of its working parts, must be parts in one single machine, each part working towards a common purpose.

Right now, and in the past, we have always treated government as a bunch of discrete parts, all somewhat autonomous, and with no general direction to anything other than to maintain the status quo and that dinosaur of a tradition that holds us back. TNP's government is like a team of horse with too many hands on the reins all pulling in different directions and going nowhere.

What we need is a government in which each part works together, in response to and affecting each other part to move in a positive and constructive direction - and that direction is the advancement of TNP.

I, for one, am tired of the internal power struggles that always plague us. I am also at some of the nasty stuff in terms of political 'assassination' and 'piling on' that I have seen. This exact condition is one of the reasons why many people do not choose to get more involved in the region, or, for that matter, involved at all.

New arrivals and old friends need to be equally cultivated, not trashed by some who are there for their own personal gain and not for the interests of the region. Right now, TNP has a reputation for people attacking each other and having a generally hostile political culture motivated by the will to power. This is what the real flaw in our collective 'tradition' is. The other flaw is that our entire system has become convoluted and arcane unto the point of being balkanized and downright "Byzantine".

We need to move past the slavery of 'Tradition', "Status Quo" and "Stagnation" that always drags us down the road to the same old nasty cycle of crap that always results. Unless the culture is changed, we will be forever stuck in the same old cycle and circus of crap.

I know how to free us from our own history of the cycle of stagnation, strife and stagnation. I have the organizational skills, the capacity to see the big picture without loosing sight of the small details, to properly delegate executive authority so that things actually get done, and actually lead rather than just service the machinery of government.

And that's the serious part of why I am running for Delegate.

A few questions that I'm asking all candidates:

1) How will cabinet ministers be chosen under your Delegacy, if elected?

2) What will be your policy on WA voting, if elected?

3) What kind of missions will the NPA be doing if you are elected Delegate and what, generally speaking, is your philosophy of R/D gameplay as it relates to The North Pacific?

Thanks and best of luck.

Just the questions I hoped someone would ask. Thank you.

1 - The Cabinet Ministers will be essentially chosen the way we have recently decided, by citizen/RA vote on the forum. The top vote-getters by simple vote will be chosen to fill the various Ministry posts. The way it will work is that all voters may vote for up to the number of positions to be filled. For instance, if there are ten people running for five positions, each voter may chose to vote for up to five of those ten candidates. Candidates may campaign for specific positions if they choose, but assignments will be decided upon in a council meeting amongst the winning candidates.

I prefer a simple vote instead of a complex weighted vote that most people haven't a clue as to how it actually works, and one in which the results are easy to understand as soon as the voting is completed.

My other preference is that the ministers serve for the duration of my term as Delegate.

2 - WA voting preference - My preference is that the RA pass legislation that binds my vote for my term as Delegate. That way, we have a binding legislative guide-line that only affects me during my term as Delegate. This leaves the decision on how the next Delegate votes to the next delegate after my term would expire. This is a power that I have no problem ceding to the RA for my term, but not my successor's term who, in turn, should be able to make the determination as to their WA voting policy.

3 - Missions of the NPA: The NPA's mission would largely continue as it is but with one proviso: all actions should be in the best interest of the region, promote the region's prestige and power. That is to say, we actively defend our allies and friendly regions as needed, but we also use the option of raiding our enemies and other belligerents that are actively engaging in open or covert hostilities against the interests, allies and friends of the region. Coordinated efforts are always more effective than having numerous independent operations.

As far as R/D gameplay, despite having been a defender in the past, I have a rather neutral position on raiding and defending. What I would like to see is a cooperate paradigm developed between our defender types and raider types.

What I would like to see is that in the event of the need for military action against an enemy that we use our Raider and Defender assets to act against multiple enemy targets at the same time. You harass an enemy everywhere you can until he is defeated and to use the strategy I want to develop, that requires the use of Raiders and Defenders to first destabilize the enemy by forcing him to spread out his forces and then second, by attacking main assets, and preferably both at the same time.

Also, I can see using Raiders in 'covert' operations as an extension of intel operations.

But generally, I intend to take a largely neutral stance on the R/D issue because I see both paradigms as tools in the same toolbox. It's not the tools, but how you use them that matters. I am also open to all suggestions from members of the NPA both Raider and Defender as to how best to employ both paradigms for the benefit and advantage of the region.

The final frontier.
These are the voyages of the Sarship TNP.
It's never ending mission: to seek out strange new misadventures, to seek out new ways to do the same thing over and over again, to blindly follow Tradition and boldy go where it has always gone before...

Or you can vote for Romanoffia for Delegate and we can change all that.

A serious question for you, Roman.

I recently asked for advice in your thread like five seconds ago, and you haven't responded yet. WTF? If you want people to follow you, you should follow them. And I mean FOLLOW them.

Thank you for so thoroughly answering my questions.

I'll be honest: You weren't the first or even the second person under consideration for my vote and I have to admit that I saw you as something of a perennial candidate not to be taken seriously. While I'm not going to lie to you and say that you have my vote -- I support another candidate -- I liked your answers far more than some of your competitors'. I wish you the best of luck in this election and regardless of its outcome I hope you'll stay involved and possibly consider running for Vice Delegate should that position become available or Council of Five (Six? I don't know anymore).

New Kervoskia:
If elected will the purges begin immediately?

No, but a regional enema is definitely in order and I know exactly where the hose needs to be inserted.

I'm a very busy man. Plus, I am still on oxygen after laughing my ass off at Blue Wolf's question. :P

Best of Luck :)

And to you to!

I intend to stay involved even if I don't win the election. In the event that I don't win, I fully intend to run for Vice Delegate.

As for the 'perennial candidate issue - For years I have been the person giving advice, some of it taken and acted upon, most of it ignored, and when it turned out that Roman was right, I still get generally ignored when I offer valid advice even though I turn out to be almost always correct in the first place.

Tresville once told me that I was better suited to being 'the power behind the throne' so to speak and for years that gave me the best means of serving this region. But I think the time has come for me to step up for real and put my money where my mouth is. I know what works because I have seen it work. I know what doesn't work because I have seen the mistakes that have been made in this region. And, now, I know that it is time for a totally different approach that will work and that is flexible enough to meet the constantly changing environment.

For instance, we still have that nagging R/D issue. I have a simple solution for that. Of course, no one will give it any thought and simply say, 'oh, that won't work'. But mark my words, if I don't win, the next Delegate, no matter who it is, will use my exact plan and paradigm and then take credit for it. All because no one takes me seriously on the surface but they are entirely willing to co-opt my ideas and claim them as their own.

Just look at the incident involving Gatesville. Everything the regional government tried didn't work. Not negotiations, not the NPA, not any propaganda campaign to regain control of the region for the legitimate government. I approached the government with a plan to get Gatesville to pull out and leave Matthius twisting in the wind. Only ONE person (GBM) offered any support or faith in my plan. The general response was, "well, it won't work but you can try it if you want."

Well, guess what. It worked and Gatesville was out by the next update. And did any of my detractors give me any credit or mention for literally freeing the region of a Rogue Delegate who was propped up by outside invaders? Hell no. But I did my job and got Gatesville out of the region, no muss, no fuss. And frankly, I don't give a crap that I didn't get credit for it because being a true patriot means not doing something just for having glitter dust dispensed all over one's self.

The point being, I know I can do a better job of not only running the region but improving it than any other candidate.

My interests are TNP. My loyalty is TNP. I have always been a citizen of TNP and have no other ties with any other region. TNP is my #1 interest. I don't play the 'duality' game. I am free from any and all outside influences and that alone would solve about 99% of the problems of this region.

punk d:
What is your greatest strength and weakness?

How will they influence your time as delegate?
My greatest strengths are my organizational skills, my scope of understanding of this region, my loyalty to and my ability to develop new strategies in making this region the best it can be. I understand what works and what doesn't work and how to apply RL theories to NS and have those theories, reduced to practice, actually work.

My greatest weakness is also all of the above. Some people tend to think that I am a bit 'wonky' in terms of my attention to detail in developing new ideas. Sometimes I can get overly-technical and use a lot of $10 words. I might say that TNP had become "Epistemically Isolated" instead of using the term "Close minded and stuck on tradition". ;)

All of this would obviously influence my time as Delegate by paying attention to details (often in the extreme) as well as finding effective ways to establish a specific goal and policy set to advance the region and make it's government more efficient through proper delegation of executive authority.

Thank you for your answer, Roman. I have decided to vote for you. Although, I am reconsidering at this point because I am wondering if now is the time for an McM delegacy.

I'm torn, but I believe you will always put TNP first and that issue is my highest priority given so many people who have outside influences. Yes, my main home in TWP but I don't bring that here and I do think that having someone in the delegate chair who's main focus is here is critical to our success.

What is the number one thing you hope to accomplish as delegate?

My #1 hope as Delegate is to really revive the region in terms of activity, influence and size (population of WA nations). If that can be accomplished, then we become the most influential region in NS not only in terms of WA voting, but in terms of defensive strength and as a region that will be the ultimate 'trend setter' for NS.

This is the first time I've actually thought about your signature quote:
carnegie1.jpg

I'm going to hold you to it. You've said a lot of very good stuff, yes, but what can you do?

What can I do? I use the full legal and constitutional authority of the position of Delegate to affect change which is something no one else has ever done, except to maintain the status quo and 'tradition'.

I fully intend to also be an active Delegate making my presence known by promoting specific programs that give direction to this government in support and advancement of the region. And by direction I mean putting an end to this aimless wandering that always leads down the same path, every time, without fail.

The general problem is that most Delegates pursue a rather boring course of action by simply being functionaries instead of actually leading the region in a meaningful direction with a purpose. This requires a Delegate to actually get involved in all areas by being active and, at times, if needed, entertaining in a way that gets people's attention in a positive fashion and then keeps that attention focused on improving the region.

Tradition and Status Quo have become the force of stagnation. I am not 'traditional' nor am I 'status quo' in TNP terms by any means and therefore, I am not governed by any desire to perpetuate the limitations of tradition nor any desire to maintain the status quo. If there's anyone here that can shake things up, it's me.

N-n-o. You don't understand the question. The quote is about disregarding what people say if they don't back it up with their actions. So how will you act that backs up your grand speaking?

By actually working to get things changed once and for all. Whether or not that change is possible depends upon whether or not the people of the region want something other than the same-old, same old. Really, any change is in the hands of the people when you get right down to it. All I can really do is to convince people that there is a better way to do things than the stale old crap we have been doing for years.
