Posting Past Lock

An issue I've been noticing lately is the tendency of forum administrators to post in locked topics. I've observed that this usually isn't intentional but happens because topics can't be locked for admins, so unless it's clear to them that the topic has been locked they often don't realize they shouldn't be posting.

My suggestion is that any moderator or admin locking a topic post a prominent message before doing so. Something like: This topic has been locked. Maybe with a reason for locking the topic too.

Just a suggestion.

I will note that if you look from the subforum, even as an admin, the Icon should be the one of a locked topic.

But I do agree that red-texting a lock would make it more obvious that it's.. you know.. locked

There have been occasions where the admin has to do something related to a thread (such as posting changes in laws, etc., after a vote has closed) and notes that it has been done in that thread.

I believe global moderators also can post in locked threads (since this ability is given through a masking common to admin and global mods) so don't go pointing at admin, since others also may do so on occaision.

To be clear, I wasn't accusing anyone of anything inappropriate. I've been an admin and moderator on more than one forum, it's easy to not realize that a topic has been locked if it's not clearly indicated. Was just suggesting a solution.

Cormac, that is a very useful suggestion. It is hard to tell when a thread is locked and this would help. Well done,

:agree:

I would also say that as a Global Mod I don't believe that I can post in a locked thread

I don't believe I can either. Then again I haven't tried as I can tell the difference in the buttons on closed topics.
