On Multilateral Trade Talks:
Description: Recognizing the value of international trade to national economies and populations,

Seeking to promote multilateral trade negotiations between all World Assembly member nations,

The General Assembly,

  1. Declares that multilateral trade negotiations must be hosted at the World Assembly at least once every ten years, with the mandate of reducing protectionist measures between all member nations;
  2. Mandates that the World Assembly Trade Commission provide any financial or logistical assistance that is reasonably required to host these negotiations;
  3. Requires that all member nations send at least one qualified delegate to these negotiations;
  4. Further requires that, during these negotiations, delegates make a good faith attempt to cooperate with other delegates in order to come to mutually beneficial agreements which are in the best interests of all national populations involved;
  5. Notes that any agreement arising from these negotiations is binding on all member nations which consent to that agreement.

The resolution “On Multilateral Trade Talks” decrees that every ten years, nations of the World Assembly should meet to discuss economic matters. The goal of these summits would be to reduce protectionist measures between nations. On the one hand, this means that nations get tangible benefits from joining The World Assembly. On the other hand, there is the possibility for a loss of sovereignty over economic matters.

The resolution then says that delegates must work towards achieving a productive goal (which is a reasonable requirement) and that agreements made here would be binding.

The overarching question that must be determined by the voters is: Should there be as to whether nations should be required to allow for more trade with one another, or whether this would be an unconstitutable loss of sovereignty.

How does the minister recommend we vote?
I don't really feel comfortable on this issue telling you how to vote. It has a lot to do with how you view the relationship between WA nations and between WA nations and the WA, and every nation has their own opinion. I couldn't really tell you whether one opinion is "right" or "wrong".

Personally I would vote aye, though.

Fair enough, I can respect that. I'm not sure how to vote on this one still. For now Abstain.

Voting on this resolution has ended.

Thanks to those nations who cast their votes. Your participation is a great help to the region.
